It’s rare you hear people call him racist (which is absolutely ridiculous) but isn’t this another example to prove them wrong ?? “Did he treat you very well ?” “Couldn’t wanted to be treated no better” and he bought her a house.

    • @sfmc98
      @sfmc98 2 роки тому +15

      I am on an honest search to find someone who personally interacted with Elvis, even for a few minutes who will say something bad about him...yet I can find no one.
      And I've been looking for years now. I honestly would love to hear someone say "He was a jerk to me" and prove it. There is likely no other person on this planet, especially a celebrity who seems to have legitimately walked the walk of their beliefs. Maybe the Dalai Lama?
      In fact, not only are people not even neutral about him, they are unanimously forceful in stating how kind he was. And in a truly genuine way, not some hollywood way. I don't know how he physically did it.
      Additionally, if what my personal research has shown is true, its fundamentally impossible that he was a racist. You simply can't hold those two beliefs at the same time. He was kind and generous to everyone. That level of humanity doesn't allow for racism. And all his other actions clearly disprove it.

    Few things here...
    First - His mother Gladys used to make those sandwiches different than the way Vernon and Mary did them for Elvis. Gladys would mash the peanut butter and bananas up all together in a bowl... (almost making it like a mashed potato concoction or Texture.)
    Then would just spread on the mixture on two slices of bread, and frying in the butter, or sometimes just buttering each side of the bread.
    The extra steps that Vernon & her did of toasting the bread first and slicing the bananas up was Vernon and Mary's concoction.
    Both recipes work, and taste good, and obviously Elvis liked both.
    But just sharing because many people don't know the way his mother used to make them.
    Gladys way is quite a bit easier & faster. I've been doing them same way myself for years
    They are awesome.
    Dave in comedian mode here. A bit hard to take, as Mary herself was rather serious and took her respect and love for Elvis serious.
    In her book she spoke of Elvis as being a cross between a friend and a brother figure. She didn't think of him as an employer or someone that just signed her paychecks.
    Most employers don't get in the trenches with people when they're having problems and weep with them or pray with their emplpyees... or randomly hand you extra bonus money occasionally for no reason at all during the day.
    I can see why she felt so strongly and lovingly towards EP as a special friend.
    I will always respect her for the fact that after he died many publishers wanted her to write her book telling negative stories and sharing "the dirt" as they put it.
    Some of these people out there in the book selling and Publishing business are scrupulous and disgusting. I know a few different people that knew Elvis that said they had similar experience when people came to them to tell their story, so they could help them publish a book. They wanted all the "juicy negative stuff that might help sell the books".
    Poor Elvis.
    I'm so thankful that he had a friend like Mary who slammed the door in the face of these people.
    It took her many more years before she what able to get the book published the way that she wanted it to. It's the true story of a man that for 17 years to her was a very tender, gentle, loyal, generous, loving, caring friend.
    RIP to both Mary & Elvis

      Thanks for sharing this, especially the details about this sandwich. Any idea why Mary has said Elvis got this idea from going on tour? Is she referring to the Fools Gold Loaf? I knew he ate these as a kid.

    • @jayviviano109
      @jayviviano109 2 роки тому +4

      @@sfmc98 That's a good question.
      and I honestly could never figure out why she said that other than that she probably simply was just unaware that the peanut butter banana sandwiches were a snack Elvis had been eating his entire life going all the way back to childhood.
      But the fact that Mary seemed to think it was something Elvis picked up while he was on tour, that does maybe add validity to the statements from a number of other people over the years close to Elvis that said in various interviews that the whole peanut-butter-banana sandwich thing with Elvis was blown WAY out of proportion, they said that while Elvis loved to eat them ...it was actually only very rare and only occasional.
      (Sort of like how I personally myself, I love cheesecake and I get a strong craving for nothing else on this planet but cheesecake. I might go to the store and buy a whole one then sit around the house one night snacking on it.
      But then I might not touch it for months after.
      That's more to the reality of Elvis with his peanut butter banana sandwiches.
      It wasn't really an every night snack he gorged himself on like so many people and media has overplayed it out to be.
      But he did of course love them ).
      So I think Mary saying that thinking Elvis came up with that recipe while on tour, it tells us that she really hadn't made those very often for Elvis in those previous years, up until the night Elvis got a craving and ask her to make one.

    • @sfmc98
      @sfmc98 2 роки тому +7

      @@jayviviano109 Yeah that makes sense, especially given the fact that people have said once he got on a kick, he ran it into the ground lol. He had the same thing to eat for days at a time but that doesn't mean it lasted very long.
      It's also so funny to me that the audience reaction is so visceral like these don't go together. I've been an Elvis fan all my life so I figured it was a common dish and it is in fact damn good.

    The audience is terrible. So rude. Before anyone blames this on being a NY thing btw (since the show is taped there) I'd just like to say this show had people from all over the Country in the audience. These people just have no manners. I didn't appreciate them laughing at her. I don't see what was so funny? She handled herself with class regardless. Lovely woman and she had a beautiful smile. I see why she was one of Elvis' favorites and I'm glad he seemed to treat her well. You can tell she respected and loved him as well.

      @@BBBYpsi Of course moving to a different state would be impossible. Everyone knows that so that is not what she meant. Carolinas was only saying that "it's still in Tennessee" because she was saying that to say they have not torn it down or nothing has happened to it, that would have damaged it to the point that it isn't there anymore. Anything can happen to a house that can cause it not to be there anymore. ...vandelism, burning down, anything...
