I remember the first time I heard this album. It was my very first time hearing anything by Ladytron and I was in a borders bookstore in downtown Chicago previewing music to pass the time. I only picked it up because they had the word "tron" in their name. I've been a fan ever since.

Oh man! I'd forgotten just how hot Helen and Mira look in this video. Also liking the Beatles allusion - Dr Robert [a song on the album 'Revolver'] was George Harrison's dentist, who would let 'certain' customers buy cocaine from him - it was used as a dental painkiller in 1966, but was later replaced with the less harmful novocaine. The Beatles come from Liverpool, as do Ladytron. Who said education coldn't be fun? :D
Huge Ladytron fan here. I disagree with any comparison to this song to other songs mentioned in the comment section (Doors, Kinks). However I will totally admit they are borrowing a certain ABBA dynamic in their presentation which I am totally okay with.

Anyone know why the band seemed to have disowned this great song? Nowhere to be seen on the "Best of" or even its bonus disc.
Weird that, isn't it? It was one of the singles too. They have such a great back catalogue I guess, but still...
It was also one of their biggest almost hits. It didn't even make the cut on the bonus disc. I guess they must have fallen out with it.
That reminds of Pulp who disowned Mis-shapes. They don't have it on their best of dvd I guess, though they openly said they hate the song now. I think these kind of songs seem somehow pretentious to the band after a while. Maybe because they have been written or produced mainly for commercial purposes, so the band see it as a sin which only they know about. Or maybe the studio got too much involved in the production, so they don't feel like it is their song anymore. Anything may have happened. Sorry for babbling too much without any info. But it's a nice topic bands disowning some of their best songs.
No, need to apologise, Simon. Some keenly thought out observations there. :-) Although, if I do think that if Ladytron were blatantly chasing commercial success, "Sugar" possibly wasn't the most obvious way to go.
