I once looked at a street map of Brooklyn to find Chauncey Street, which was the street Gleason grew up on, and which he had the Kramdens and the Nortons living on -- same address, 328 -- when he created this show. I discovered that there's a Ralph Street not too far from there. I've never seen it mentioned in any biography of Gleason's, but i wonder if that's where he got Kramden's first name from.

It's a good thing they adjusted the characters somewhat for The Honeymooners, which wouldn't have been as good if Ralph and Alice were so crude to each other, with Ralph calling her "stupid" and apologizing for his "dumb wife," and Alice calling his brother "the stupidest person she's ever seen" and telling him to "shut up." The pull of the Honeymooners was that at heart they were truly decent, even if under all the pressures they occasionally shouted and threw zingers at each other.

Agree 100 percent. Alice was still somewhat of an early feminist in the Honeymooners, but was sweet and kind as well. Glad they turned her in to a good wife who still loved the abusive Ralph. But he would always turn in to a softy too and apologize to her and own up to his stupid mistakes...

@@kevinsullivan136 It definitely was a main theme of the show, as highlighted in the "man is king of the castle" and the cleaning lady episodes. By the end of each episode, Ralph the "husband is boss" has to sheepishly admit that he was wrong and she was right.

How do they have a clip or show from 1952? I thought they only made shows in 1956, Jackie definitely looks lighter. Is there any others I haven’t seen?
