This movie has a special place in my heart. Years ago I made my son skip school (his teacher was horrible) and took him to see this movie at the movie theater. He was scared at the chase at the start but enjoyed the rest.

But for the older movies yea I never understood the cast change, the new casting was not bad but Jill in Apocalypse was just *chefs kiss* perfect.

Admittedly, I watched this movie twice in a row when it came out. Being an usher for a movie theater had its perks.
My favorite Res movie. My favorite part was the beginning when you see all the chaos in the city. I rewatched the battle between the cops and zombies so many times as a kid. The most interesting part of a zombie scenario for me is the initial outbreak phase, when you see everything starting to fall apart, watching the government trying to stop it. Wish more movies focused on this part, feel like they skip through it, rushing to get to the typical “survivors” vs zombies.

As a "What if" scenario the first two movies are pretty fun and somewhat of a guilty pleasure of mine, the rest of the series... Kind of went the same way as the games and not in a good way.
Still love Manson's them for the first movie :-)

This is the best live action resident evil movie in my opinion.
The story was good enough and the characters were enjoyable also seeing the RE3 intro in the movie was pretty cool.
The soundtrack was superb (killswitch engage & slipknot)
Also jill valentine was spot on 👌

Agreed, by far my favourite RE movie, and I was a horribly hardcore RE fan. This was before there was any sort of unified vision across any media, so there were the games, the "novels," the... uh, "cinematic universe (which I was fortunate enough to watch the latter iterations while in a long stay at hospital, by far the best way. Drugs and potential infections zombie or otherwise? Sure)." For me it was just pure fun, all the forms.
I even have my own Resident Evil themed card/board game that I can't get licensed, so please look for it on a Hong Kong boulevard near you, soon!
Seriously though, I really enjoyed this movie. I'm glad they stuck with the R ratings, despite zombie strippers, and although it was fun to see a pretty dang accurate version of Nemesis on screen, I have to say it was the entire swap of the Code Veronica intro for Alice near the climax of the movie that did it for me. A lot of fun, even if I'm not the biggest fan of the villains/narratives regarding the cinematic series, they're still fun actionzombie flicks, and Mila's one of the most certified bad ass women on film in history.

As a resident evil fan and a Toronto resident it was great when they filmed this in the city. We literally had several umbrella cars driving around and they closed down the town hall to film for a bit.
Plus seeing "racoon city" as toronto and it blowing up at the end was great.
To me this was the one good resident evil movie and as close as we got to a proper Racoon city outbreak - which is interesting because its the one Paul W.S Anderson wasnt involved in.
How was filming in Toronto like? I heard there were challenges because of the SARS outbreak and filiming in the cold? Did you see the actors playing as zombies, cops, STARS, Umbrella soldiers, along with the cool props?
Driving home from work in norway, there was a tesla last year driving past me with umbrella company paint job on it xD
Apocalypse to me is no question it's quite well done just with slight twist to make their own story.
Anything after this, I find it just became more and more weird. So to me in this timeline, RE1 and RE2 are the two that I enjoy watching.
What I love most about this Resident Evil sequel is the score by Jeff Dana. It was spot on. It was suspenseful and action packed. The orchestra performed this score with precision and a relentless pace. It was great to see Oded Fehr in this film. The last time I saw him was in the miniseries Splinter Cell and the first two Mummy films.
I didn’t play the video games. But the films gave me an idea of what the story was about.
I've always liked the first three Resident Evil films. I know they're not cinematic masterpieces but they were fun. I've also never played the games so didn't care whether it was accurate or not.

I will defend the first and second Resident Evil live action movies any day. They are great zombie flicks. I'm not a big fan of the games so I won't say they are good adaptations because I can't comment on that but they are really good zombie movies. Especially the second one which I love that the setting is an entire city. The budget to portray an entire city is rare in zombie movies, especially well acted and directed ones.

Yeah that'd be because they cast proper actors in appropriate roles, instead of cosplayers and ethnicity swapping a main character for SJW reasons

When nemesis decided to help Alice fight the umbrella soldiers , it was Matt’s consciousness that took over, so Matt was helping Alice, not the Nemesis

Sienna Guillory was perfectly cast as Jill Valentine.
Especially because she cared about the character!
She got the walk animation spot on.
She was also great as a mind controlled jill from RE5 in Retribution

Thank you for this review! Apocalypse and Retribution are my favorite of the franchise. I like seeing the RE heroes/characters in action. Jill is my favorite character in both films. I also liked Retribution because of Leon and Barry teamed up which was really cool. RE3 Nemesis was the first game I fell in love with as a kid. It will forever hold a special place in my heart.
Not gonna lie I love the first two movies by Paul Anderson, after Apocalypse however my/the fans interest started to fizzle out.😱
Perhaps this is why the S.D. Perry novels have been getting a lot of attention.😁

2004 was a good year to be an RE fan. Re4 came out the same year and this movie was a certified banger.
Mike Epps was my favorite part of this film, along with the broken fingers part
This is actually the closest of the live action RE films that comes to it's source material in my opinion. The psychic powers in the end felt out of place though.
After Ripley in Aliens, this was the movie that showed a badass lady protagonist. In those days it was rare to see one and always it was bound to be amazing. One of the reasons why I am in love with a tomboy.
Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004) was far more entertaining than RE: Welcome To Raccoon City (2021) ever will. Plus side, we got to see the starting of the outbreak and the destruction of Raccoon City as well the Hive / Mansion incident that had to offer, it was done so much better! RE: WTRC did it seriously lame, also it had the budget of $25 million.

This movie was the 1st Resident Evil media I’d ever seen as a child. I found out about the games and comics later so I had no idea how horribly inaccurate it is.

Bitch all you want, apocalypse is the only one to actually give us the closest thing to a true adaptation of the games and is what we WANT. The first movie was an excellent starting point and lack of notable heroes from the game made you feel for the characters safety and anyone could die and I loved it, however, apocalypse should have been the 3rd movie and the second one should have been Chris and Jill investigating the mansion after the hive being opened up and zombies all around the mansion and they unveil many secrets like how Angie is actually Alexia and introducing wesker and mentioning birkin or something.
At the part where they had to go pick up Dr Ashford I feel like Dr Ashford should have said "well shit" after they said "you have to come with us"
