A virus turns hundreds of humans and animals at a genetic research facility into flesh-eating zombies. In response, an elite military unit tries to take them down before it is too late.
Loosely based on the video game series of the same name, Resident Evil is a 2002 action horror film written and directed by Paul W. S. Anderson. The film stars Milla Jovovich, Michelle Rodriguez, Eric Mabius, James Purefoy, Martin Crewes, and Colin Salmon.

Literally and probably the only best live action resident evil movie we have. I remember watching this as a kid and enjoyed it alot. Now I appreciate it even more due to its own original unique store and atmosphere. All the other resident evil movies made by Paul Anderson are shit

@@dragonweyr44 the new one is good. They condensed re1 and re2. Sadly they left some stuff out, and messed up a few key characters. The story isn't exactly perfect, but I think it makes it more accessible to non re fans. Overall I enjoyed it, but certain parts let me down. I really hope the rebooted series gets some sequels.
That lazer hallway scene will always be epic.

Fr fr I periodically go back and rewatch this movie. It truly is a guilty pleasure of mine as a RE fan.

Wonderful movie. Love the ending scene when Alice is walking through the city
I loved the original Resident Evil as a kid. Alice was subdued and vulnerable for most of the movie, unlike the boring superhero she became in later movies.
I also loved Michelle Rodriguez and the zombies looked great.
Reading that Michelle was actually written in as a main character but later turned back into a background character at the request of milla who felt her action scenes were taken away pisses me off . Michelle definitely had a more badass character and she deserved to be in the sequel . I think the biggest mistake they did was not keeping her in as Jill and having Alice just be Claire and Matt be chris . The story would’ve made much more sense . Doesn’t make sense that Alice works for umbrella and is completely unaware of what they are developing and what she’s protecting and it doesn’t make any sense that she suddenly regains consciousness and becomes a hero . They should’ve scrapped her direct involvement w umbrella and just made her and Matt both cops . And I think Michelle as Jill would’ve been badass they could’ve taken down the boss or final licker together imo w a flamethrower cause the whole licker crucified by tongue is corny asf . But milla just HAD to be the star … apocalypse was also terrible in terms of plot it doesn’t make sense that they turned Matt into nemesis in less than a day .. and doesn’t make sense she just turns into this hero . Also they immediately brought in way too many new characters . If they would’ve kept her and Michelle it would’ve probably been much more satisfying. Alas we still have this first one
This movie is, hands down, the best in the series by a large margin.

Romero did the live action Biohazard 2 commercial so he was familiar with the game

I even heard that the 2021 reboot git mixed reviews as it was aimed at millennials whom had never seen the video games or the Original Films.

the first 3 movies were amazing, after that , it went downhill sooo badly. The 3rd movie in the desert will always be my fav
After the release of "Welcome to Raccoon City" I now appreciate this movie even more.
It what happend they mixed both games and cranked it up to 11
For me, the resident evil movie franchise is like the transformers one. The first one was actually pretty decent, despite being flawed, but the sequels are just so much fun you can forget about concepts like quality, no matter how much they break themselves or damage continuity
I guess I am one of the few that actually enjoy the whole series when I treat it as a separate to the games?

It was ok for b horror movie but a bit disappointing for a RE game fan
Bought this on DVD when it came out. I just thought it was so cool. Never seen or played the game. Liked the way it looked, the story, the music. Didn't see the sequels.
Loooooove this movie! I'm not picky, being a Resident Evil fan myself, so I thoroughly enjoyed most of the movies. The ones I didn't care for was Extinction and Final Chapter.

The first film was a true horror film. The second one was enjoyable at the time it came out even though I was disappointed it deviated so much from the source material. After that I can't even tell the films apart.
This movie was pretty groundbreaking when it came out. Still holds up in my opinion.

It was! You should try it. It leans way more on the horror aspect of the games and makes it feel like a hopeless situation that just gets worse instead of a badass character just blasting through zombies confidently as much as I love that.
I love resident evil! I enjoyed this movie but was confused as F when this movie came out. I was like 11 when I saw it and couldn’t connect it to the video game.

Please do the whole franchise, absolutely please do it. These terrible movies brought me to the game series and both hold a special place in my heart. I absolutely love these movies and all their glaring flaws.

people complain about the whole series but they did more good things than bad things in my opinion, by creating their own story, a what if the virus was not stopped at racoon city

That beat was sick af at the end
My best theory into why Alice got powers from the t-virus, is simple because of the fact, that since Alice is a clone of Alicia Marcus....she as already possess a very small (and I can not stress the small of a size she has) undetectable traces of the T-virus in her system. So when she infected during Project Nemesis, both the strains of the virus merged into what we saw on screen.
Only the first movie is acceptable (that futuristic setting was dope), the second ruined Nemesis (that was the biggest mistake). Also could have worked better if Alice died at the end of the second movie,

Your voice is smooth, radio butter to the ears
RE 1: amongst the gold standards of video game movie adaptations. A competently written mostly grounded narrative with clear reverence for the source material but did not shackle any of the story to an arbitrary 1:1 adaptation. The story very well could have been self-contained with the sequel hook being a wink to the audience.
RE Apocalypse: A master class in how it can be acceptable to sacrifice tight storytelling and grounded narrative for the sake of some fucking fun and scale. After the claustrophobic atmosphere of the first film there was really no where to go except bigger. At this point it's safe to assume the bulk of your audience knows that they are watching a video game movie and if you're going to play on suspension of disbelief with the "fallen city" setting, then you can absolutely stretch your legs and lean a little more into video game whackiness. The story still stands on its own without overworking the source material and still maintaining that sense of reverence for it despite some... Interesting character choices. Don't worry Leon, they'll get you right someday.
RE extinction and beyond: Master classes in how losing sight of what made your film IP unique can just turn it into the same mindless trophy video game adaptations that are destined for failure.

It's one of those movies where you say, it's an okay movie but dam that soundtrack. Similar to Queen of the Damned.
First one and two and three were great
The thing that bothers me is that in the beginning this was an accident but in the end of the film they make it seem like that this was not an accident but on purpose and that they plan the end of the world starting from the first film to the end. Which makes no sense to you watch the first film.
I think that too. Umbrella execs really thought a virus that made the dead comes back and some mutated monsters is the best way to 'cleanse the world' lmfao

I remember telling my bro I wanted to see this when it was coming out in the cinema the legend bought me it on pirate VHS when he was at uni in Glasgow loved the film scared the hell out of me I was 12
This film was actually marvelous. A perfect blend of action and horror. The following films are comical garbage. No element of horror and suspense whatsoever. Just action movies with zombies.

I've seen the most gore-filled movies and never really bothered by it, but that guy being diced by a laser still disturbs me I think because of the clean precision he dies.
The first couple of movies were alright but then the final chapter came along and destroyed all the past lore the past movies had created.

Just a suggestion, I think you should lower the background music/noise its a bit high and competes with your voice. Its a bit distracting.

Anderson hired Cirque de Soleil performers to play the zombies for the original movie for their unusual movements
The one part of the movie that I never understood was that when Spence is attacked by the licker, The Red Queen tells the other survivors that the licker needs pure human DNA to mutate into its ultimate form but when it attacks and eats Spence, he had already been bitten by a zombie and he his DNA was no longer pure, was it?
It takes awhile for the T virus to spore that's why you don't turn in to a zombie right away when bitten it take a few hours thereby meaning when the licker ate spence his blood was probably 96% pure

Resident Evil 2002 had good potential but when down hill over the years. Still the laser scene is really one of the Scariest moment in the movie.
This movie confused the heck out of me when I was a kid. I just enjoyed the action and monsters.
I don't think they gave good explanation of the actual story and just assumed everyone watching was a game fan or just wanted to see action
