I first met The Captain back in 1985 when I was 19. We did not get along AT ALL. It was our first and final meeting.

I'm the youngest of 4 by 10 years and the only boy. My dad once told me "all I wanted all my life was a son to go fishing with me, but I got you". I hate fishing. Also, no sympathy, it really didn't affect me that much, I knew he was a dick.
More than the boozeahol in these videos, the reason I keep coming back is the deep and rich lore and worldbuilding.

On most pirate ships, getting drunk on the sea was explicitly forbidden because it would compromise a sailors skill if he was unexpectedly needed for a battle or storm. That's why they got so wasted when they came into Port. So pirates absolutely had SUIs and it was a pretty serious offense!

People seem to overlook just how important alcohol was for such a massive stretch of time of human history. It's one of the easiest ways to keep water in a safe and drinkable state.

There's nothing especially wrong with Cap Morgan, but, I wish I could easily buy a high-end spiced rum; something that isn't focused on colors or marketing, but just a good molasses-centric rum, with maybe just a little barrel age, and steeped in some blend that's allspice-forward.
PVIII, try to get ahold of some of those fortified wines that pretend to be distilled spirits in those random states with weird laws about what can be sold in convenience stores...If you haven't already and I'm just too smashed to remember. I've never tried one, I've never wanted to try one, but I'd like to compel you to try some as I effectively throw pennies at you with my UA-cam Premium viewcount for my personal entertainment. Keep up the fantastic work as you always have!
try Gosling's Rum. the creator of the dark and stormy. probably my favorite rum.
Sounds like you need to make some Falernum cocktails. Corn and oil for example
@@dragonzord413 I'm fond of Goslings. And it certainly screams of molasses; almost to an extreme, such that I'll cut it with a lighter rum. But it doesn't come with a spiced note. I'd have to infuse it myself, which I've done with other things, but, I'm a lazy lazy man.
@@tijmen131 I purchased some falernum in the past. I don't know if it's just the brand I got, but it was extremely almond-forward sort of like a slightly spicy orgeat syrup with a hit of lime. And to be sure, I love that almond flavor, but I want to be able to add it separately, when it fits in.
@@verdatum I've got John d taylors velvet Falernum and it definitely has almond tate, but also a very big range of other herbs. If you find some good Barbados rum you can make a corn and oil, 2 ounces rum, half ounce Falernum, 2/3 dashes Angostura bitters. Delicious

Do you think he would appreciate his legacy? Me, I don’t think so, but I suppose it’s possible that we take the quality of budget spirits for granted compared to what was available hundreds of years ago

I’m sipping on some right now, it’s nice, I prefer Mount Gay but my liquor store was out last time I needed rum. I would score it a little higher than 47. I mean that’s in the “unacceptable” range. It’s in the 70’s for me, with Mount Gay in the 80’s. I like that you review decent stuff once in a while, keep up the good work!

Kind of surprised PV3 didn't go for a tasting with the two main different varieties of Captain Morgan against the original - That would be intriguing since they have different flavor profiles. Still definitely a solid review as always though from the illustrious PV3!

Ah yes, the official liquor of my early-to-mid 20's. It may not be the best rum around, but it's certainly better than shitty well rum and it'll more than get the job done!
You should definitely do either Sailor Jerry or Mount Gay as your next rum, both are a step up from Captain Morgan in my opinion (although as always, your mileage may vary)

I would add, as a response to your notions, i would say you were delicate with your wording, but you managed to put the correct notions in context of puke, vomit, and probably not real vanilla.
the fact is that this product is completely artificial, that vanilla is of the kind you would purchase for very cheap for adding to cheese cakes. you gave much too much respect to this foul product.
Sir Henry Morgan was in fact real. He was a welsh privateer in the 17th century, which is just the government lackey version of a pirate, for the english crown. He would raid spanish colonies in the Caribbean where he'd torture the locals with atrocious methods until they'd spit out where the gold was hidden. He was so dreadful that England arrested him in an attempt to appease Spain after signing a peace treaty with them, only to release him then knight him and make him lieutenant governor of Jamaica. He died shitting himself at 52 or 53 years old in his estate where he owned 131 slaves. The excellent rum history book And A Bottle of Rum elaborates on his story, as well as other notable characters of the golden age of piracy.
