    I have same stove for 8 yrs now, use it every year an love it, there's nothing better than wood heat, I burn hedge, locust , no problems, my pipes go straight up an into 8"at ceiling an up, I added a second damper about 3' higher than the original one cause it draws strong, I cook on it all the time an works great, good video thanks

    I treated the cast iron trim on my soapstone stove; holy cow what a difference:). Cannot thank you enough for the tip. I was thinking of using high temp paint. Glad I found your tip:)👍

    Cool! It's our old stove! we had one of these (different name, exact same design and dimensions) from 1980 through 2007 when we left our old house. Did a great job! Especially the ability to take longer logs. And so easy to light! Loved it! (but we just used pot belly paint from time to time, never got rusty to speak of.)

    I use bacon grease, it does smoke at first but after the first burn it’s great and jet black.

      I’ve always used vegetable oil on my cast iron skillets. I just put a second coat of black stove polish on my wood stove along with some vegetable oil.

    I just used bacon grease on mine tonight. For some reason my puppies would not leave me alone. I have cast iron skillets that are used on a regular basis. Eggs do not stick in mine. I'll heat up the stove outside and it'll be good to go. It just got replaced with a slightly bigger model and I will find a good for this smaller model.

      melissa comer I have been thinking about a larger stove, or possibly a pellet stove. This is in my garage, and it has been great, but I could use more heat. Thanks for watching!

    Best thing to use is stove polish , leaves long lasting lustre and no greasy residue or grease smell . Don't use WD40 can stain and terrible smell .

      Only one coat, and I left it on there. No smoke or smell at all.

    Three months ago we sadly had an horrendous water problem in our bathroom which caused our house to be almost completed flooded. Industrial dehumidifiers were brought in and stayed with us for a good 2 months. Sadly we haven’t used our stove or living room since. Last night as the temperature has dropped we decided to use our stove and to our horrid is was covered in Mould and rust. Was this due to our flooding? The wetness? The dampness? The dehumidifiers?

    I tried this on mine, but the oil NEVER dried, it always got your hands all black whenever you touched it. I found Vinegar to work better, which is a longer process but keeps your hands clean. I also heard sanding it down works, although I've never tried that, yet.

    There are different types of scotch-brite pad. What stock number are you using? Is it the Scotch-Brite™ 7447 PRO Hand Pad?

    This method will not work with restoration. Like putting WD-40 on the scratch on your car just before you sell it, temp hide. Any high heat paint or enamel will not bond. Good advice from a NH Native, Live, Freeze and Die.

    • @120man

      As often as it takes to keep it looking good. I do mine e very fall before it gets cold. Still use the stove, and it looks good. Thanks for watching!

    Have the same stove it eats wood like CRAZY if anyone knows how to slow down the burn please help

    • @charlesmarek9207
      @charlesmarek9207  6 років тому +1

      Misty Tackett there are definitely better stoves available than this model. I use this in my garage, and only heat it occasionally in the winter. A lot of effort required to have a wood stove, between cutting and splitting the wood. I have tried a few things in an effort to slow the wood consumption, without any favorable results. A pellet stove seems to be a better option, but they are pricey. Thanks for your comment!

      @barnabyaprobert5159 6 років тому +4

      You have to try and make it as airtight as possible. With cheaper stoves that means sealing every joint. That's ugly so try and do all the sealing INSIDE the firebox. The air is to get it so that the ONLY air getting into the firebox is through the designed vent. Best of luck.

      It will smoke as it cures but then it will be fine. It's the same procedure for cast iron pans. I put linseed oil on my stove ever year, works well and is nicer than stove paint.
