i just watched Stick it!! and this is the first time i've heard about Missy Peregrym and i already love her!!!!! she's a great actress...her role in stick it is amazing :)
Holy crap, I can't believe she doesn't have a background in gymnastics and that she did all her own routines!!! She's frikkin' amazing! Seriously insanely impressed, it looks so genuine in the film. And to find out that it's also her first movie? This woman is AMAZING!

Sometimes it's a good thing when you have no experience acting. She was believable and not self conscious at all in this role. Most importantly she seemed natural in her role. She has natural raw talent. Someone with more experience may have overreacted the role.
Stunt doubles were used for the major skills, but Missy learned some basic skills so they could still use some angles in the training/routines that showed her face. For example a typical way to film a tumbling pass in a situation like this would be to have the actor do the run and roundoff, then a stick and finish at the end, but switch to a shot of the double for the actual flip.

That's because she DIDN"T do her own routines.. as she said ... dancing only. For gymnastics they uses a stunt double.
