  • Chad and Ria take an in depth look at the new OHV education requirement that started on the 1st of January. They get some great insight into what this free online requirement entails, speak to some industry experts and have a wide range of experience levels in the AYL office sharing their experiences of going through the training. This training is required for all OHV’s including Dirt Bikes, ATV’s, Modified Jeeps or Rock Crawlers, Street Legal and Non-Street Legal SxS’s and must be completed by February 1st 2023

Good vid, appreciate AYL’s outlook on the subject. We have a similar education requirement in Oregon. The objective is to bring folks to the same page regarding gear, vehicle safety, trail stewardship, etc. Downside of increased off-road popularity is more pressure on our backcountry by different user groups, vehicle types & operators with broad range of experiences. Providing the tools to make informed decisions helps protect the backcountry experience we all enjoy.

Totally agree, everyone should take it. It only took me about 20 minutes and was all stuff we already abide by. 🤘🦊🤘

The new rules exist not for safety but so that rangers can give more tickets
Also you don't have to show proof that you completed this course to an officer
They cannot ask you for your papers unless they suspect you of committing a crime
Simply riding an offroad vehicle on public lands is not reasonable articulable suspision of a crime
So if you know your rights you don't need to take this course or keep your papers with you

Remember you do not need to take this course or keep your papers on you
A DNR officer cannot ask you for proof that you took this course
That would be a 4th amendment violation
Simply riding an offroad vehicle on public lands is not reasonable articulable suspicion of a crime
So if a DNR officer comes up to you and asks you for your papers ask them if you are free to go or what crime they suspect you of committing
We are innocent until proven guilty so cops cannot pull you over with the assumption that you are breaking the law by not having taken this course
By law we are assumed to be innocent so by law we are assumed to have taken this course
Remember your rights people and remember to exercise them.
    But also respect the outdoors
We didn't need a law to make us do that
The entire point of this new licence system is simply so that they can give people more tickets and generate revenue.

The papers are not the main point of the course. The point is to make sure everyone is on the same level of respect for the outdoors. That is why the education course is Free and straightforward.
Following the rules are the best way to keep our public lands public. Thank you.
