I had the great pleasure of hearing Cyril sing this song live in the Two Brewers pub Manchester back in 1963, Two other participants on that memorable evening were Ewan MacColl and Peggy Seeger.
Lucky man! 😀 I didn't start attending folk clubs until late 1966, and missed out on a lot of stuff! But one of the best songs I heard back in those days turned out to be a Cyril Tawney song: Sammy's Bar.

I recall Phil Garland singing this back in the 70's
