  • I have never worked on something like this, it was a nice learning curve haha. The pump will be tested when the engine I will mount it to is done. Lets hope it works hahaha.

Wow, another great restoration. I replace these for a friend who has a business as he can’t e downtime when the pumps fail. I’ve often thought of rebuilding them but haven’t found the time.
Knowing how they operate, I am curious to see how the appliance paint holds up as the pump gets very hot.
The other thing I couldn’t tell from the video was if you sourced new pistons? Most are ceramic and prone to cracking due to misuse. Much the same as placing a hot glass into cold water 😮. My friend was going through them way faster than he should have. I did some research and found that the flow of water was a huge part of cooling. This causes a problem when you leave the machine running while moving things out of the way to continue cleaning. While doing this the pump gets overheated and when the water begins to flow again the cold causes pistons to fail permanently. After finding this out, I downloaded a number of manuals for different brands of power washers and all advised to shutdown the engine if there was no water flowing through the pump. It varied slightly but a good rule of thumb is no more than 5 minutes of idle runtime. I suggested that when he shuts down the engine he squeezed the trigger for a few minutes to allow a flow of water to slowly cool down the pump. This has significantly increased the life of the pumps on his equipment.
That was some very ugly sludge/milkshake that came out of the sump 😮.

Stop using consumer junk for commercial work. Commercial CAT or Annovi Reverberi can sit at idle indefinitely.

@@Failure_Is_An_OptionThis information below is readily available on the web and is a recommendation. All the pumps I have replaced were AI commercial ones. I have disassembled two of them and the components were destroyed.
Why Should My Pressure Washer Be Turned Off When Not In Use?
If you let a pressure washer run without pulling the trigger, the water stays inside the pump. This water continues to heat up and will melt the seals on the pump. Plus, the pump continues to heat up, so when you pull the trigger again, cold water is entering a very hot pump and can cause pump cavitation.
Some pumps have a bypass hose to recirculate the water and cool it down, but you still do not want to let it sit for long without pulling the trigger even with the bypass hose.
It's best to always turn the pressure washer off when not in use. If your pressure washer is not working, or if your pressure washer keeps shutting off, this may be a cause of the issue.

The soap is caustic and can never be rinsed out of the mixing valve. Hard water and little or no maintenance. I liked my pressure washer but didn't love it. Good video, I heart ASMR

The pump sounded awful noisy, hopefully it works. I’m in the process of building a pressure washer, had to order a new pump because the used one I have I cannot find the right valves for it, I still have to rebuild a gx160 I had that has no compression but parts are on the way. Can’t wait to have my own pressure washer

It’s not going to last long. The gap in the connecting rods and the crank shaft has too much “slop” from lack of lubricate.
He does these videos to get views and money but often skimps out on really doing it right. Like putting the same old poppet valves back in.

@@AJRestoration I worked on a lot of water pumps at my last job, everything on them was super finicky. All the brass connections you have to tighten but not over tighten or it will break. And changing all the seals and about 20% of the time after you put it all back together it is still leaking.
