I just bought a sawgrass, brand new, set it up as told and did everything as advices and all I got was dotted prints and line right off the back! Returning it and going to eco !
I have the epson f170 I use the A-sub media paper and my colour are vibrant. I have no experience with clogging because if its left for 3 weeks without use I just do a nozzle check do my head cleaning do a nozzle check again and it works. Just make sure and have an extra maintenance box if you are printing 50 or more depending on the print.
I've had mine for close to 2 yrs and my box still hasn't ask to be changed. I had just decided to order a back up when I order my back up ink this week.
I love my EPSON ET15000. I have had it over a year and I did have a FEW (not many really) issues at first, but I now realize they were operator error. Since changing the software that I print from, I have had no issues. My sister has a Sawgrass 500 and I went this route and don’t regret it for a minute. I do use Cosmos Ink so I’m sure that helps. It’s pricey than Hippo, etc., but no matter how many days it sits for, it hasn’t dried up. Knock on wood. I pray this continues now I’ve made this post. LOL
Replacement ink prices for the Sawgrass are outrageous! I own the ET F170 and love it. It is the same base hardware that the Sawgrass printer has without the hefty price tag. Of course, it doesn't come with the software, so, If I were to choose a second sub printer, I might go with a Sawgrass just to get their software. That said, and if money was not an issue, the ET F570 24" sub printer would be first in line! Epson inks have worked super well for me and give me far more bang for my buck than the Sawgrass brand would.
I would LOVE an F570 quite frankly but that is way outside of my price range! HA! There are differences between the F170 and a Sawgrass printer, however. It is definitely NOT the same printer just different price tags.
As always, Angie, you are right on point! Sawgrass is on my wish list and I’m hoping that in January after my birthday I can get one it’s I’ve listened to 1 million videos about these printers and I just believe that that’s gonna be the easiest app, and even though the cost is higher I think in the long run it will pay off, so thanks for another great video.
I am just doing all my research on the printers and talking it over with the hubby. We are both in agreement to get the Sawgrass 500! Thank you for your input and knowledge!
Its about weighig the differences and your ability to recover from failure if and when it happens. My workhorse sub printer was ET-2760 from a big box store. made well over 100 prints in rhw past two years. I did not need to print weekly but it did not sit for long. Last month during a print the C, Y & M colors just quit. There I was with two 2.5 boxes of paper, full box of HIIPOO ink. Looked at new ET printer, SAWGRASS and Epson. I bought an ET-2800 for under $200. When I weighed the cost of new printer and tossing already on hand supplies I can print enough stuff even if the budget one dies. What I could not find was an estimation of # of prints from Sawgrass with the much smaller cartridges. I am an IT person by day so I know the value of warranty and risk but in this case I was not starting from scratch. Given the cost of the ET sub printer and Sawgrass I would go Sawgrass if I started all over again as the difference was not really enough to out weigh the maintenance mode and software.
I do think your level of technical knowledge factors in here as well but I completely agree with your decision! I actually asked Sawgrass about how many prints you could get and they don't have data they release on that as each print is so different.
@@AngieHolden This is the same issue I have with an ET 2760 that I purchased just one year ago 10-21-21, and all three colors, other than black just quit. I don't know whether to try a power cleaning, but know that once the maintenance tank is full, I have to buy a new printer. I am just trying to find a printer that I know I can replace the maintenance tank with another empty one to buy as a spare part to keep on hand. After a converted Eco Tank finally clogged "into heaven" I was a little ambivalent what to do next and finally bought the Epson SC-F100 which is- at least in Germany - sold over the Epson shop at Amazon. The biggest drawback for the Sawgrass (beside a similar price tag for the printer itself) was the continuous cost for the (original) ink in comparison to the (original) Epson ink. Furtheron the service, customer support and availability for the sawgrass seems to be much better in the US than on european market.

I bought 2 Epsons (for 2 different locations) that I loved. The color was great and everything sublimated wonderfully until one clogged up. No matter what I did it never unclogged. I went ahead and bought the the Sawgrass 1000 which I felt was a learning curve. I’m getting good prints but still have some issues to work out but only because I never did the one on one call 😁🤦♀️. I’m loving it so far.
this is one of the advantages of buying a printer that is made to do what you want it to do. When it has a problem, you can call the dealer, rather its Epson or Sawgrass and get help. Good luck
One more thing, I will only use Epson ink. I also like their paper. That being said I have also used sublimation paper on a roll for the large printouts and Easi Subli and have had good results. I do make sure to chose rigid or textile when printing.
This was so helpful. I actually purchased an Epson 15000 ecotank with intentions of converting it. But after watching this video I decided to return it for a sawgrass. The cost is about the same. I know I will not be sublimating on a weekly basis. I would have preferred the ability to print larger than 8.5” x 11 but the potential pitfalls with the Epson is not worth the extra printing capability for me. Maybe I can get a Black Friday deal as you mentioned. Thank you!
@@AngieHolden I was able to find it on All American Print Supply. I just checked and they have it in stock. When you click on the 8.5 x 11 it will allow you to choose size to change to 8.5 x 14. They also have 3 warehouses in the US that you can go into and one is within 2.5 hours away from me ( that's nothing in Texas lol)
I have decided to purchase the Epson F170 rather than convert an Ecotank. You listed All American Print and Lex Jet. If you were purchasing which vendor would you use? They are both the same price.
You have been a great source for Sublimation Tips and Tricks. I've got a bit of a mystery on my ET-15000 Epson though. I'm running Asub Sublimation ink and Asub paper. I've tried many different ICC profiles and settings to try to get my colors after pressing to be something close to what I see on screen or even a more vibrant version of the colors when freshly printed. I'm so frustrated with the color variation I'm probably going to give up using the ET15000 for sublimation in general because i just can't predict what the colors will be once pressed. So here is a great example. I printed a purple design for a tumbler and it printed VERY nicely and the purple color was VERY close to what the screen showed. I've used the standard EPSON ICC profile and have also played with ADOBE and gamma 2.2 and got very similar purple results after printing. When I press the very accurate purple color turns to a very pink color, nothing close to the purple. I've had similar experience with yellows shifting to orange. I'm from Ohio and would love to make OSU tumblers for some Christmas gifts, but my "scarlet and grey" turn to more of a deep maroon color, super disappointed. I've varied pressure and times with either no change or just faded bad transfers. So I thought I'd just ask the question, what sort of suggestions for an ET-15000 printer using ASUB INK AND PAPER, running stock ICC from Epson. Colors when printed are VERY close to screen colors but when pressed for proper times and temps per the Tumbler manufacturer, colors are just wrong almost all the time. I get shades and "vibrancy" that could be off, but Purple shouldn't turn to pink and blues turn green. On the verge of getting either the new Brother SP-1 Sub printer to replace my Epsons...and step down to 8.5 x 11 sheet works only, or go for broke and just get a SG1000 Sawgrass and eat crackers and water for a year...LOL! Any ideas are appreciated.
First, I would print a printer purge file and press that to 100% white polyester cloth. I am worried one of your inks is not working correctly. Second, just because it prints correctly doesn't mean it will press correctly. You might try different profiles and color correction options.

I use an Epson eco tank I converted for sublimation. I use a MacBook laptop and I cannot for the life of me get the colors correct. I even downloaded the color profile from Epson and cannot find any instruction online on how to get the color profile to work on my Mac. It's so frustrating. I try to run a test page every few days to avoid clogging. As long as I am not doing photos or trying to print a logo with matching colors, it works okay. Thanks for all your great videos, they have been so helpful.

I must be super lucky. I have 3 ecotanks and love them so much! My 15000 I use once every few months and it never gets clogged! It’s 3 years old! Never clogged. I use all kind of inks in them. I’ve thought about trying a sawgrass but the inks are what stop me. I print 70-130 prints a week on my smaller printers. I refill the ink every 2 weeks.
I chose epson. The ink replacement in sawgrass will break you. Epson f570 is around 2500 Epson f170 is $500 Sawgrass 1000 is $1545 Sawgrass 500 is 550 Epson ink $100 to replace all colors. Sawgrass ink is 150 to 160 each color! Hope that helps.
Angie, as always thank you for the great review! I have stayed away from this option because it looks like you can only print from their app and as a devoted Design Space user (subscription just renewed) I do not want to learn yet another software. From what I’m understanding both from the product description itself, and your review, all graphics must be inserted into their software before being printed? I know you said that you printed one directly off of your file, but I wasn’t sure if you also had to put that into the software. This would be a dealbreaker for me.
If you were to print from Design Space, you would just choose the sawgrass option in your printer and it would pull up a box just to pick your settings then you would print.
I recently converted an Epson Eco tank with Hippo ink and I will say - it was a process!! It took about 30 test sheets to get it to work as I kept getting Brocken lines but I got it to work and I have made some really amazing items! I love the ability to make a really customized gift for someone! I was reading that you should have it plugged into the computer/network for sublimation as opposed to using Wi-Fi - is this true?
There are several people that recommend hard wiring into the printer. I have never done that as I have too many printers and things going on. I haven't ever seen an issue.
I got an EcoTank 2400 for Christmas and loved it. It was easy to convert and the colors were great FOR 4 MONTHS ONLY!!!! I went away for a week and probably waited another week to do a print. The first one worked great and then it stopped printing half way through the second one. All the lights were blinking and Epson said it was firmware failure. So it was garbage and warranty was void. I got maybe 30 prints for my $200 (printer and ink). Wish I never wasted my money on a converted one. I would spend the money on a Sawgrass if the ink wasn't like $300 to replenish, So the F170 will be my next purchase.
@@ajw91688 Epson gave me a link to find names of Epson repair places near me but I didn't bother, I was too disgusted with the whole thing to try to pay to get it fixed. If it did it once, i am sure it will do it again. Epson must have a reason they don't honor the warranty if you use sub ink in it.....they know it causes problems. I ended up getting an Epson F170 sublimation printer. I hated getting another Epson, but the next price point was more than I was willing to spend so i just bit the bullet and spent $400 on a sublimation printer that at least will have a warranty. I already received it and it was so simple to set up and worked beautifully first time.
Epson L3160 always select PHOTO INKJET PAPER and HIGH quality setting. Color seems ok. Using PRINTER JACK ink. No clogs like on my L805 with original ink after one year of use. The type of paper selection affects the color after sublimation.
@@AngieHolden Agree ,I have used now 3 different types of no name brand flea market types. One looks like light orange back side and takes longer to dry but end result looks the same. Have not yet tried the more expensive type of paper but will try when the current stock is depleted. It seems that the paper selection plays a big issue with the end result as I think the printer puts more ink on the paper when selecting Photo Injet Paper. Normal paper setting at High print quality seems to make the sublimation dull or washed out.
Sounds like you are a sponsor of Sawgrass, very partial. I have been using the Epson Ecotank and have had no problems for the last two years. You just change the ink initially to sublimation ink. When print issues arise, you just flush out the print head. Only happened to me twice in two years. The top benefit to Epson Ecotank printers is that the ink lasts forever unlike the cartridge style printers. Also, the Epson F710 is available on Amazon.
This video is several years old first of all. Second I am not sponsored by Sawgrass but I do believe a dedicated sublimation printer is best and I am still not a huge fan of the Epson printers regardless of which one it is.
also want to let everyone know that I have used the company ink owl to buy ink in the past for my sawgrass printer and they have excellent color prints, however dont buy a sawgrass anymore if you want to use ink owl ink. sawgrass figured out a way to block any other ink than their own. Epson is the way of the future as long as they continue to support other companies ink.

If I am sourcing things correctly, as I research sublimation options, this is what I see. Sawgrass official ink. $80 for 31ml. $2.58 per ml F170 official ink, $25 for 140ml. $0.17 per ml F170 Hippoo ink, $60 for 560ml. $11 per ml. If a heavy print graphic uses 1ml per print, maybe an 8x10" of a full-color art print, that might be an additional $2.40 cost on an item I sell for under $20, that's a lot of potential profit as it adds up over the life of the business. (based upon research of 1ml ink covering 1sq foot). the sawgrass is great, but is it $2 per item sold 'great'? That's where I am getting hung up. If a business sells 1000 widgets/mo, that adds up. Would love a follow up with what appears the f170 being a bit more available, at least through their retailers and if it's a viable business alternative to the sawgrass in the long term. Or are my prices out of wack and I'm looking at the wrong things? I guess if a business scales, the 270 or the sg500 probably isn't going to be the long term solution, really. I think for me, just starting out from complete scratch, I might go the 170 and see if I'm happy with the prints. I really appreciated the video. Good information. Thanks.
It should be on here on Monday I hope so too I almost went for the 1000 but it was just expensive and I don’t think I’m gonna need anything that big and if I start making money I’ll buy it then I also but a signature Series Heat Press with auto off because that little handheld thing I’m using is a pain in my neck my problem as you stated is getting the colors right on my Epson they seem to want to get darker and I’m using the Siser easy subli most of the things I do are on dark colors and that’s the ink coming with my Sawgrass I also talked them into 50 sheets of paper lol Siser stuff is really expensive $116 for 50 sheets especially when you’re not paying attention and you put it in the printer backwards lol
I just bought and EP Ecotank and I am about to set it up but I checked with my friend who converted her Epson to sublimation and she was having problems. She sent it out to claim warranty and it was voided since she converted it. Epson has a sunlimation printer for $399, same price with mine but I checked the replacement ink and it’s $29 per color. I may need to buy Sawgrass now🤔. I just bought the cricut, hot press and the only thing missing is the sublimation printer😂
The Epson F170 is great. The ink is 29 but that's way cheaper than the Sawgrass. I actually pay more for that than I do my reg HP printer as well. I've had mine quite a while now and I have to say, I love it. I have went for several months without printing with no issues. Sometimes I'll check the print heads but have not had to do any cleanings and no clogging. I just bought my first black ink, the rest I've been using for over a year now. I went to Epson's site, put in my location and I was given the closest dealer to me. I've noticed Conte is also selling them and the ink but I'm not sure if its the F170 or just the F570. You'll love the printer and to have the warranty, 1yr 100% and support is great. Good luck.
Understanding that the Epsons are not designed for sublimation but they still have problems with clogged nozzles. I print at least weekly and recently the yellow stopped printing. It took me twenty attempts to clear the nozzle. It appears that some have fewer troubles than others, but this is a problem that Epson should address. Originally the Epsons were recommended as an alternative to the Sawgrass basically for the reason of cost. But now everywhere there are sites that identify problems with Epson printing. Many followed the advice to utilize the Epsons as an alternative to the Sawgrass, but are now stuck with a printer that will not work and is not covered by the factory warranty. This has become a big turn-off for sublimation as too risky to attempt. I guess those that followed the advice are just out of luck and money. Perhaps some will now understand that the Sawgrass is the only safe choice and it is extremely expensive to get the equipment and supplies. Sublimation has now become much more of a critical financial and performance decision.
I have the WF7720 but I did look up the F170 and surprised to see that Walmart carries them but they have to be shipped. they apparently don't keep them in stock.
Is it possible to use Hp inkjet printer with sublimation ink ? Because hp printer uses heating technique instead of pizo type which used in Epson ? So I think Sublimation ink can block the Cartridge because of Its heat ! Not sure !
Angie… HELP!! I have the printer Epson 2800. I have only had it for a few months. It’s giving me an error message saying it has a paper jam but it doesn’t have a jam. I did a clean & it fed the paper just fine, printed fine while it was doing is clean but when I try to print a project it give me a “paper jam” error. I called Epson and they told me because it is modified it can throw the printer into error mode when there’s nothing wrong with it. Unfortunately because it was modified is no longer under warranty. Is there a way to fix the error? Epson customer service told me there was nothing they could do. Any hints or tricks or tips?
Hi, maybe you can help me, I recently bought a sawgrass SG500 and the prints are so dull, I selected Vivid, Stainless steal on settings but they look horrible. I previously had a converted Epson ET2803 with hippo ink and loved it until it died. I am using the same paper A-Sub. Any idea why the sawgrass prints look horrible once pressed? They look fine on the sheet but dull once pressed.

Gosh. It would depend on what you are printing really. I think the per page cost is more with the sawgrass. However the Epson has more manual maintenance and fails more often resulting in higher repair and replacement costs.
Angie, I have bought 2 Epson printers. 1st clogged on me so I bought another one. Now the 2nd one is clogged on me. I think I' going to buy the Sawgrass now as I can't keep buying new printers every 6 months. When looking at the Sawgrass printer they have a standard and a starter. Standard is priced at $624 and Starter is priced at $574. I have been trying to read what the difference is but can't figure it out. Can you help me out? Thanks

Hi Angie, thank you so much for your videos, they are always so helpful! I’m wondering if you can help me. I got the Epson ET 2803 and upon setup it keeps saying to remove packing materials, which I have done. There is NOTHING left to remove. When I look inside the front cover, there is a beige/gray/white colored cable that has a flimsy looking piece of plastic surrounding it and it’s secured by another piece of plastic with a tab securing it. Is this supposed to be removed? I am so confused! I have looked at so many reviews and setup videos, and can’t find any info on this. I know you are always helpful and respond quickly so maybe you can help me? I know you don’t have the Epson ET 2803 but the one you have here looks very similar to mine and I’m thinking the insides might be the same. Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated!!! @@AngieHolden haha ok I didn’t think so but I have been watching you for years and value your wealth of knowledge so figured I’d ask. I think I got a defective printer, it keeps saying remove packing materials even though I did and then it said “you may have broken or missing parts”. The box it came in had clearly been dropped, possibly several times- it was in horrible shape, and even the Epson box was ripped and had a huge dent in it, so they’re sending me a replacement. I’m disappointed but I know people have way bigger problems so trying to have a good attitude. Thanks so much for your help Angie!!

Sawgrass ink is more expensive of a purchase. It is hard to measure how much ink each print uses and I didn't want to give in accurate information. Neither of these printers has information on their website about a cost per print.
Do you know if the Sure Color Epson F170 Sublimation printer has a replacement maintenance tank that can be ordered, or when the tank is full is the printer no longer able to be used - that would require buying another new printer?

Sublimation ink lasts a long time but that is true of any of these printers. I could not find estimates on any of them as far as how many projects you can make.
@Angie I just purchased a ET-15000 and converted it with Hiippo sublimation ink, this week. I remember when you set your ET up, you had some broken lines during the printer head cleaning. Although I have been able to get the colored lines fixed, the black lines are still broken, in the same spots as from the get go. How did you fix this? I've already aligned the heads and run the cleaning/set up several times. I don't want to run a super cleaning because of all the ink I will lose. Help!
What about the Sawgrass do you like over the Epson? Was there something about the Epson that made you like the Sawgrass more? I was leaning towards the Sawgrass but the cost of the ink pushed me towards the Epson.

Angela I’m looking for tumbler press was looking at PNW because they say outcome is great and you only use 3 pieces of tape also liked the heat press nation 7 in 1 Do yoi I know why 1 press can use only 3 pieces of tape and can others use this same method successfully thank yoi kim
Hey Angie, I’m using L805 epson printer and when I try to do the heat press all of the colors turns out it be great white black red yellow except for the grey which turns yellow all the time

Awesome! I use Hiipoo and also have had zero issues even if I let mine sit. I do think it is more luck than anything else though.

It looks like the Epson f170 only prints up to 8.5 wide. Is there a sublimation printer that can print wider than that?
I would LOVE an F570 quite frankly but that is way outside of my price range! HA! There are differences between the F170 and a Sawgrass printer, however. It is definitely NOT the same printer just different price tags.
The F570 prints wider but the price on it is WAY more.

Its about weighig the differences and your ability to recover from failure if and when it happens. My workhorse sub printer was ET-2760 from a big box store. made well over 100 prints in rhw past two years. I did not need to print weekly but it did not sit for long. Last month during a print the C, Y & M colors just quit. There I was with two 2.5 boxes of paper, full box of HIIPOO ink. Looked at new ET printer, SAWGRASS and Epson. I bought an ET-2800 for under $200. When I weighed the cost of new printer and tossing already on hand supplies I can print enough stuff even if the budget one dies. What I could not find was an estimation of # of prints from Sawgrass with the much smaller cartridges. I am an IT person by day so I know the value of warranty and risk but in this case I was not starting from scratch. Given the cost of the ET sub printer and Sawgrass I would go Sawgrass if I started all over again as the difference was not really enough to out weigh the maintenance mode and software.
I do think your level of technical knowledge factors in here as well but I completely agree with your decision! I actually asked Sawgrass about how many prints you could get and they don't have data they release on that as each print is so different.
@@AngieHolden This is the same issue I have with an ET 2760 that I purchased just one year ago 10-21-21, and all three colors, other than black just quit. I don't know whether to try a power cleaning, but know that once the maintenance tank is full, I have to buy a new printer. I am just trying to find a printer that I know I can replace the maintenance tank with another empty one to buy as a spare part to keep on hand. After a converted Eco Tank finally clogged "into heaven" I was a little ambivalent what to do next and finally bought the Epson SC-F100 which is- at least in Germany - sold over the Epson shop at Amazon. The biggest drawback for the Sawgrass (beside a similar price tag for the printer itself) was the continuous cost for the (original) ink in comparison to the (original) Epson ink. Furtheron the service, customer support and availability for the sawgrass seems to be much better in the US than on european market.

I bought 2 Epsons (for 2 different locations) that I loved. The color was great and everything sublimated wonderfully until one clogged up. No matter what I did it never unclogged. I went ahead and bought the the Sawgrass 1000 which I felt was a learning curve. I’m getting good prints but still have some issues to work out but only because I never did the one on one call 😁🤦♀️. I’m loving it so far.

this is one of the advantages of buying a printer that is made to do what you want it to do. When it has a problem, you can call the dealer, rather its Epson or Sawgrass and get help. Good luck

One more thing, I will only use Epson ink. I also like their paper. That being said I have also used sublimation paper on a roll for the large printouts and Easi Subli and have had good results. I do make sure to chose rigid or textile when printing.
This was so helpful. I actually purchased an Epson 15000 ecotank with intentions of converting it. But after watching this video I decided to return it for a sawgrass. The cost is about the same. I know I will not be sublimating on a weekly basis. I would have preferred the ability to print larger than 8.5” x 11 but the potential pitfalls with the Epson is not worth the extra printing capability for me. Maybe I can get a Black Friday deal as you mentioned. Thank you!

@@AngieHolden I was able to find it on All American Print Supply. I just checked and they have it in stock. When you click on the 8.5 x 11 it will allow you to choose size to change to 8.5 x 14. They also have 3 warehouses in the US that you can go into and one is within 2.5 hours away from me ( that's nothing in Texas lol)

You have been a great source for Sublimation Tips and Tricks. I've got a bit of a mystery on my ET-15000 Epson though. I'm running Asub Sublimation ink and Asub paper. I've tried many different ICC profiles and settings to try to get my colors after pressing to be something close to what I see on screen or even a more vibrant version of the colors when freshly printed.
I'm so frustrated with the color variation I'm probably going to give up using the ET15000 for sublimation in general because i just can't predict what the colors will be once pressed. So here is a great example. I printed a purple design for a tumbler and it printed VERY nicely and the purple color was VERY close to what the screen showed. I've used the standard EPSON ICC profile and have also played with ADOBE and gamma 2.2 and got very similar purple results after printing. When I press the very accurate purple color turns to a very pink color, nothing close to the purple. I've had similar experience with yellows shifting to orange. I'm from Ohio and would love to make OSU tumblers for some Christmas gifts, but my "scarlet and grey" turn to more of a deep maroon color, super disappointed. I've varied pressure and times with either no change or just faded bad transfers.
So I thought I'd just ask the question, what sort of suggestions for an ET-15000 printer using ASUB INK AND PAPER, running stock ICC from Epson. Colors when printed are VERY close to screen colors but when pressed for proper times and temps per the Tumbler manufacturer, colors are just wrong almost all the time. I get shades and "vibrancy" that could be off, but Purple shouldn't turn to pink and blues turn green.
On the verge of getting either the new Brother SP-1 Sub printer to replace my Epsons...and step down to 8.5 x 11 sheet works only, or go for broke and just get a SG1000 Sawgrass and eat crackers and water for a year...LOL!

First, I would print a printer purge file and press that to 100% white polyester cloth. I am worried one of your inks is not working correctly. Second, just because it prints correctly doesn't mean it will press correctly. You might try different profiles and color correction options.

I use an Epson eco tank I converted for sublimation. I use a MacBook laptop and I cannot for the life of me get the colors correct. I even downloaded the color profile from Epson and cannot find any instruction online on how to get the color profile to work on my Mac. It's so frustrating. I try to run a test page every few days to avoid clogging. As long as I am not doing photos or trying to print a logo with matching colors, it works okay. I must be super lucky. I have 3 ecotanks and love them so much! My 15000 I use once every few months and it never gets clogged! It’s 3 years old! Never clogged. I use all kind of inks in them. I’ve thought about trying a sawgrass but the inks are what stop me. I print 70-130 prints a week on my smaller printers. I refill the ink every 2 weeks.

Epson f170 is $500
Sawgrass 1000 is $1545
Sawgrass 500 is 550
Epson ink $100 to replace all colors.
Sawgrass ink is 150 to 160 each color!

I have stayed away from this option because it looks like you can only print from their app and as a devoted Design Space user (subscription just renewed) I do not want to learn yet another software. From what I’m understanding both from the product description itself, and your review, all graphics must be inserted into their software before being printed? I know you said that you printed one directly off of your file, but I wasn’t sure if you also had to put that into the software. This would be a dealbreaker for me.
If you were to print from Design Space, you would just choose the sawgrass option in your printer and it would pull up a box just to pick your settings then you would print.

Conde sells the replacement ink for the F170, they also sell epson paper. They don't sell the printer however, they only have the f570

I recently converted an Epson Eco tank with Hippo ink and I will say - it was a process!! It took about 30 test sheets to get it to work as I kept getting Brocken lines but I got it to work and I have made some really amazing items! I love the ability to make a really customized gift for someone! I was reading that you should have it plugged into the computer/network for sublimation as opposed to using Wi-Fi - is this true?
There are several people that recommend hard wiring into the printer. I have never done that as I have too many printers and things going on. I haven't ever seen an issue.
I got an EcoTank 2400 for Christmas and loved it. It was easy to convert and the colors were great FOR 4 MONTHS ONLY!!!! I went away for a week and probably waited another week to do a print. The first one worked great and then it stopped printing half way through the second one. All the lights were blinking and Epson said it was firmware failure. So it was garbage and warranty was void. I got maybe 30 prints for my $200 (printer and ink). Wish I never wasted my money on a converted one. I would spend the money on a Sawgrass if the ink wasn't like $300 to replenish, So the F170 will be my next purchase.

@@ajw91688 Epson gave me a link to find names of Epson repair places near me but I didn't bother, I was too disgusted with the whole thing to try to pay to get it fixed. If it did it once, i am sure it will do it again. Epson must have a reason they don't honor the warranty if you use sub ink in it.....they know it causes problems. I ended up getting an Epson F170 sublimation printer. I hated getting another Epson, but the next price point was more than I was willing to spend so i just bit the bullet and spent $400 on a sublimation printer that at least will have a warranty. I already received it and it was so simple to set up and worked beautifully first time.

Epson L3160 always select PHOTO INKJET PAPER and HIGH quality setting. Color seems ok. Using PRINTER JACK ink. No clogs like on my L805 with original ink after one year of use. The type of paper selection affects the color after sublimation.

@@AngieHolden Agree ,I have used now 3 different types of no name brand flea market types. One looks like light orange back side and takes longer to dry but end result looks the same. Have not yet tried the more expensive type of paper but will try when the current stock is depleted. It seems that the paper selection plays a big issue with the end result as I think the printer puts more ink on the paper when selecting Photo Injet Paper. Normal paper setting at High print quality seems to make the sublimation dull or washed out.
I like a matte paper setting on my EcoTanks but environmental factors can definitely play a role in that!

Sounds like you are a sponsor of Sawgrass, very partial. I have been using the Epson Ecotank and have had no problems for the last two years. You just change the ink initially to sublimation ink. When print issues arise, you just flush out the print head. Only happened to me twice in two years. The top benefit to Epson Ecotank printers is that the ink lasts forever unlike the cartridge style printers. Also, the Epson F710 is available on Amazon.
This video is several years old first of all. Second I am not sponsored by Sawgrass but I do believe a dedicated sublimation printer is best and I am still not a huge fan of the Epson printers regardless of which one it is.
also want to let everyone know that I have used the company ink owl to buy ink in the past for my sawgrass printer and they have excellent color prints, however dont buy a sawgrass anymore if you want to use ink owl ink. sawgrass figured out a way to block any other ink than their own. Epson is the way of the future as long as they continue to support other companies ink.

If I am sourcing things correctly, as I research sublimation options, this is what I see.
Sawgrass official ink. $80 for 31ml. $2.58 per ml
F170 official ink, $25 for 140ml. $0.17 per ml
F170 Hippoo ink, $60 for 560ml. $11 per ml.
If a heavy print graphic uses 1ml per print, maybe an 8x10" of a full-color art print, that might be an additional $2.40 cost on an item I sell for under $20, that's a lot of potential profit as it adds up over the life of the business. (based upon research of 1ml ink covering 1sq foot).
the sawgrass is great, but is it $2 per item sold 'great'? That's where I am getting hung up. If a business sells 1000 widgets/mo, that adds up.
Would love a follow up with what appears the f170 being a bit more available, at least through their retailers and if it's a viable business alternative to the sawgrass in the long term. Or are my prices out of wack and I'm looking at the wrong things? I guess if a business scales, the 270 or the sg500 probably isn't going to be the long term solution, really.
I think for me, just starting out from complete scratch, I might go the 170 and see if I'm happy with the prints.

It should be on here on Monday I hope so too I almost went for the 1000 but it was just expensive and I don’t think I’m gonna need anything that big and if I start making money I’ll buy it then I also but a signature Series Heat Press with auto off because that little handheld thing I’m using is a pain in my neck my problem as you stated is getting the colors right on my Epson they seem to want to get darker and I’m using the Siser easy subli most of the things I do are on dark colors and that’s the ink coming with my Sawgrass I also talked them into 50 sheets of paper lol Siser stuff is really expensive $116 for 50 sheets especially when you’re not paying attention and you put it in the printer backwards lol

I just bought and EP Ecotank and I am about to set it up but I checked with my friend who converted her Epson to sublimation and she was having problems. She sent it out to claim warranty and it was voided since she converted it. Epson has a sunlimation printer for $399, same price with mine but I checked the replacement ink and it’s $29 per color. I may need to buy Sawgrass now🤔. I just bought the cricut, hot press and the only thing missing is the sublimation printer😂

The Epson F170 is great. The ink is 29 but that's way cheaper than the Sawgrass. I actually pay more for that than I do my reg HP printer as well. I've had mine quite a while now and I have to say, I love it. I have went for several months without printing with no issues. Sometimes I'll check the print heads but have not had to do any cleanings and no clogging. I just bought my first black ink, the rest I've been using for over a year now. I went to Epson's site, put in my location and I was given the closest dealer to me. I've noticed Conte is also selling them and the ink but I'm not sure if its the F170 or just the F570. You'll love the printer and to have the warranty, 1yr 100% and support is great. Good luck.

Understanding that the Epsons are not designed for sublimation but they still have problems with clogged nozzles. I print at least weekly and recently the yellow stopped printing. It took me twenty attempts to clear the nozzle. It appears that some have fewer troubles than others, but this is a problem that Epson should address. Originally the Epsons were recommended as an alternative to the Sawgrass basically for the reason of cost. But now everywhere there are sites that identify problems with Epson printing. Many followed the advice to utilize the Epsons as an alternative to the Sawgrass, but are now stuck with a printer that will not work and is not covered by the factory warranty. This has become a big turn-off for sublimation as too risky to attempt. I guess those that followed the advice are just out of luck and money. Perhaps some will now understand that the Sawgrass is the only safe choice and it is extremely expensive to get the equipment and supplies. Sublimation has now become much more of a critical financial and performance decision.
Epson did address it by releasing the SureColor line of printers that are FOR sublimation. Converting a printer is always a risky decision.
I have the WF7720 but I did look up the F170 and surprised to see that Walmart carries them but they have to be shipped. they apparently don't keep them in stock.

As long as the printer you have takes 4 ink colors, the Hiipoo Sublimation Ink will work.

Angie… HELP!! I have the printer Epson 2800. I have only had it for a few months.
It’s giving me an error message saying it has a paper jam but it doesn’t have a jam. I did a clean & it fed the paper just fine, printed fine while it was doing is clean but when I try to print a project it give me a “paper jam” error.
I called Epson and they told me because it is modified it can throw the printer into error mode when there’s nothing wrong with it.
Unfortunately because it was modified is no longer under warranty. Is there a way to fix the error? Epson customer service told me there was nothing they could do. Any hints or tricks or tips?
My guess would be you have a small scrap of paper stuck in the machine somewhere and it is giving an error. Try cleaning everything well.
Hi, maybe you can help me, I recently bought a sawgrass SG500 and the prints are so dull, I selected Vivid, Stainless steal on settings but they look horrible. I previously had a converted Epson ET2803 with hippo ink and loved it until it died. I am using the same paper A-Sub. Any idea why the sawgrass prints look horrible once pressed? They look fine on the sheet but dull once pressed.
Had you pressed prints from your other printer on stainless? Stainless often looks dull regardless.
I don't think my eco tank 2750 has an ICC profile I have yet to find one and I've had it for year
You can actually try ANY ICC profile and see if it fixes your issues. It doesn't have to specifically be for your printer.

Gosh. It would depend on what you are printing really. I think the per page cost is more with the sawgrass. However the Epson has more manual maintenance and fails more often resulting in higher repair and replacement costs.
Angie, I have bought 2 Epson printers. 1st clogged on me so I bought another one. Now the 2nd one is clogged on me. I think I' going to buy the Sawgrass now as I can't keep buying new printers every 6 months. When looking at the Sawgrass printer they have a standard and a starter. The Eco tank 2800 series are awful. Mine died very quickly. 2 power clean and now error message. Do not buy.

Can you tell me what the difference is in the number of copies expected for the Sawgrass ink cartridges - vs - the eco tank 100 ml bottles? I know the cartridges are more expensive, but was curious about the number of copies that might be expected to compare the difference.
I was unable to find any data I trusted on that so I didn't include it in this comparison.

Hi Angie, thank you so much for your videos, they are always so helpful! I’m wondering if you can help me. I got the Epson ET 2803 and upon setup it keeps saying to remove packing materials, which I have done. There is NOTHING left to remove. When I look inside the front cover, there is a beige/gray/white colored cable that has a flimsy looking piece of plastic surrounding it and it’s secured by another piece of plastic with a tab securing it. Is this supposed to be removed? I am so confused! I have looked at so many reviews and setup videos, and can’t find any info on this. I know you are always helpful and respond quickly so maybe you can help me? I know you don’t have the Epson ET 2803 but the one you have here looks very similar to mine and I’m thinking the insides might be the same. Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated!!! @@AngieHolden haha ok I didn’t think so but I have been watching you for years and value your wealth of knowledge so figured I’d ask. I think I got a defective printer, it keeps saying remove packing materials even though I did and then it said “you may have broken or missing parts”. The box it came in had clearly been dropped, possibly several times- it was in horrible shape, and even the Epson box was ripped and had a huge dent in it, so they’re sending me a replacement. I’m disappointed but I know people have way bigger problems so trying to have a good attitude. Thanks so much for your help Angie!!

@@AngieHolden yes, I got it this morning and have been using it a lot today- setup was a pain in the you-know-what for me and I had to call Epson and was on the phone with them for 20+ minutes, but got it up and working and my sublimation prints look great! Thanks for all your help!

You don’t talk about the cost of ink and efficiency of f170 vs sawgrass.
Sawgrass ink is more expensive of a purchase. It is hard to measure how much ink each print uses and I didn't want to give in accurate information. Neither of these printers has information on their website about a cost per print.

Does the ink in the Sawgrass last as long? Like if you did the same projects on each printer.
In my experience it does.
Do you know if the Sure Color Epson F170 Sublimation printer has a replacement maintenance tank that can be ordered, or when the tank is full is the printer no longer able to be used - that would require buying another new printer?
I think it can be replaced but I have not actually done it to know how difficult that is.
Hi, I have been searching about sublimation printers and the sawgrass was one of the most popular but the ink cost a lot, do you have idea how long the ink would last? Thank you.
Sublimation ink lasts a long time but that is true of any of these printers. I could not find estimates on any of them as far as how many projects you can make.
If I buy and download the sublimation from etsy until I get a printer, will that still work?

I just purchased a ET-15000 and converted it with Hiippo sublimation ink, this week. I remember when you set your ET up, you had some broken lines during the printer head cleaning. Although I have been able to get the colored lines fixed, the black lines are still broken, in the same spots as from the get go.
How did you fix this?
I've already aligned the heads and run the cleaning/set up several times. I don't want to run a super cleaning because of all the ink I will lose.

Don't run any cleanings! Print like 5 printer purge files. They even have ones that are all black.
Can this printer F170 can print DTF film ? I don't see the feeding paper?

Most computers will work with sublimation as you just need something to pick your print settings.

Last week Epson sent me an update that I made and since then all my colors are so ugly...so sorry I updated it...à friend told me to never update with sublimation..do you have an advice to give me to have the colors I had before the update? All my settings are the same than before; its just the update that caused all the trouble😢
Yea I never do the updates once I dial things in. You will have to play with it to get them back!
Angela I’m looking for tumbler press was looking at PNW because they say outcome is great and you only use 3 pieces of tape also liked the heat press nation 7 in 1 Do yoi I know why 1 press can use only 3 pieces of tape and can others use this same method successfully thank yoi kim
I would not be convinced that is true without seeing it frankly.
Hey Angie, I’m using L805 epson printer and when I try to do the heat press all of the colors turns out it be great white black red yellow except for the grey which turns yellow all the time
I think those are EcoTank printers. You may need to do some color correction. I would try manual color correction or using ICC profiles.
How do you print and cut for a sublimation tumbler...cricut doesn't let you print it large enough.
You can't. You have to use a different program I use the free version of silhouette studio to print my sublimation prints.

HI I was just looking at one of your videos I found through google. I can't fine it now. you were showing sizing in windows or paint. I have a Mac and paint was not working for me.
