What preventative maintenance can be done so this doesn’t happen in the first place? Thanks We don’t live long enough to learn everything from our own mistakes!
Ok, head gaskets correct ?not a cracked head ? Driven 50k plus miles never over headed runs well What do you think I should do fix it or just leave as is if I haven't had any problems yet ?
How do you know the head gasket went out ?? I have a 2008 Isuzu NPR HD 5.2 L that is smoking white when in starts then it stops but doesn’t overheat what you think is the problem
Hi Brad, I have done the head gasket twice. Last time was about 20Km. It's pressurizing the coolant system. 3rd time. I noticed that the oil level is around 1L over on the dip stick. The truck has been sitting over 30 days. Looks like the coolant got sucked into the crank? The rad is dry up to the thermostat housing on the block. No oil in the coolant. Sending for analysis to confirm. Did I hear right? The block warps but only under running, heated conditions? What sort of fix did you come up with, if any? ReALLy SuRE Do APPRECIATE any ideas from all..... Thanks in adv. Did the extra thick head gasket + RV Silicone do up right? ~K
My issue was a blown head gasket and the pressed in injector coolant tubes had started to leak from the head warping. It was pressurizing my coolant system bad. I had the cylinder head machined flat and new brass coolant tubes pressed in. Once the head is machined you will need the larger head gasket. The machine shop will probably ask you what oversize gasket Isuzu offers. You need to make sure to get the cylinder head pressure tested first thing.
I am looking at a 1993 gm w4500 with a blown head gasket. The odometer has 190,000 miles on it. Do you think it would be a can of worms? I can probably get it pretty cheap.

Hi Brad, great video! just bought an 07 isuzu npr hd 5.2L turbo, just like the one on this video, its leaking oil at the junction of the motor and transmission, any pointers to what the cause is?
Yes, you have to use rtv silicone when when installing the head gasket in the rear of the cylinder head, because the cast iron cylinder head overlaps onto the aluminum cover on the back of the motor (covers the cam gears). The steel on aluminum heats and cools at different rates which makes it leak oil. Only way to fix the leak is to pull the cylinder head, clean well, and reapply rtv silicone. Honestly its a big job. If its a slow leak, just keep an eye on the oil level and let it roll. Hope this helps.
Hi I have 2002 Isuzu 4hk1 we replace the head gasket but the coolant comes out to radiator when you release the accelerator. What is the reason for this issue? Pls help
Ok, how many miles is on it since you replaced it with thick gasket? I'm having a similar issue, did I full rebuild complete top and bottom, truck ran great, ab ok ur 40k miles later it starts seeping coolant past the hose clamps. On cold start up, with in like 30 seconds it has pressure in the cooling system, which is abnormal. I havent checked the egr cooler yet, but looked in the intake and didnt see any coolant.
@@seansadek9809 I only rebuilt the top end of the engine. I had my head machined (very very little because of the gear drive timing) and pressure tested. I had leakage around the brass injector tubes because they are water jacketed. Helps keep the injectors cool but prone to fail when the truck overheats.
Hello brad , I have 2003 isuzu npr diesel with 4.8L 4he1 engine .. truck leaks oil from the exhaust manifold . Truck runs fine doesn't over heat ran it like that for about 50k with no issues just add oil here and their .. I been told it it could be a cracked head or head gasket . What do you think it could be and it it worth fixing or just keep running like that truck has 340k thank you hope to hear from you soon
thats awesome to hear cause I have a napa right down the road!!!!! I just bought a 2010 NPR with 197k miles from Ryder and I dont trust them with maintenance lol. Im going to do my own baseline and change EVERYTHING just so I have piece of mind
the irony is im going to use my truck as a mobile tire and auto shop so I'll have all the tools. Just never worked on diesels before but I got the service manual and everything looks very manageable. thank you for the info!!!!!
Your post says " if you have any questions..ask" ..soo I am...I'm driving an 07 nqr ..keeps going into limo mode ..throws a code P0299 " turbo super underboost" ...any thoughts?? I cant find anything on this engine..its been to the shop 5 times
Brad, I have an 06. Mine just started pushing coolant through the overflow tank. The truck does not overheat and has never overheated what do you think
Mike Triolo start with replacing the radiator cap. That will allow coolant to pass by to the overflow tank. If it’s still passing by.. then the motor is building excessive pressure in the cooling system (not good)
It leaks right under the last exhaust manifold port closes to the front of the engine . It leaks to the engine block all the way to the bottom of the oil pan .
Newstar vidoes sounds like you might have an air pocket in the cooling system. There is a bleeder screw on top of the thermostat housing. Make sure it’s completely full of fluid. Your radiator could be failing internally by being clogged but if you don’t see an external leak, you might be burning coolant through a blown head gasket.
Depends on the engine. Some isuzu's have a hand primer pump. There are a few bleeds valves on the fuel system, I believe one is on the fuel filter housing. If not, you have have to loosen the fuel line to the injectors and turn the motor over. When fuel comes out of the fittings, tighten them.
Either one of this.1.injector sleeves leaking from top caused by worn oring, remove top cover run engine check for bubbles on each sleeves. or 2. Oil coolant as there is where both meet
What preventative maintenance can be done so this doesn’t happen in the first place? Thanks

What service manual do/did you guys use for this and where did you get it?
You ever find it
Approximately how much was the cost of everything you did for that job?

I’m sorry I don’t have the PDF anymore. It was on an old iPad that died.
Hi dude how will I know when the engine starts and the water goes into oil sump.
Why is the highest pressure in the turbo
When you remove the cylinder head do you have to set the timing somehow
Yes, set it to tdc before you remove the cylinder head.
Thanks a lot raztech

these engines are pretty dang resilient eh?
Thanks for posting an update.
any suggestions on good brands of fuel, oil, air filters to use. I dont have an isuzu dealer near me.
nick elias my local NAPA keeps all filters in stock and they are very good quality

I’ve never had that issue to be honest. The Isuzu dealer can’t figure it out? Definitely need the computer. Stuck wastegate or bad sensor?
I cant find the thicker head gasket....Anybody got a part number?
Same here

Mike Triolo yeah that’s a possibility. I bypassed my egr cooler for testing purposes and was still building pressure in the cooling system
Ok I'll try the cap and bypass the cooler and see. Thanks for your quick response and knoldge.
Mike Triolo not a problem and good luck!
Hi, I have the same problem. Can we get the thicker gasket part number?
I don’t have it on hand. You’ll have to call your dealer and they can see it on the parts diagram
It leaks right under the last exhaust manifold port closes to the front of the engine . It leaks to the engine block all the way to the bottom of the oil pan .
Its Probably a head gasket honestly. We have never had that particular situation happen to us.
Check the injector sleeves one must be leaking compression
Hey dude how can I know if my radiator has a problem cause it is starting to hot get quickly when driving a few meters or even when starting it
Because yesterday my truck was leaking coolant and the today it stopped and a strong odour of rubber burning is comming out from my truck

What head gasket thickness will you be going with?
I went with the thickest head gasket available. Theres a marking on the head gasket but you have to remove the head to see it..
@@RaztechPowersports You have a part number or a thickness to look for?
1.475mm?
