I first heard this song as a 17 year old kid. As a guitar player, I fell in love with this song. I said one day if I am lucky enough to have a daughter, her name will be Rylynn.
At the time I'm writing this, it is 7/12/24 at 4:12am. I'm now 33 and my wife just gave birth to our baby girl Rylynn Jade at 2:50am. I just finished playing this song for her in recovery and she fell asleep listening to the music. Rest well my queen ♥️
Simply put, thank you Andy McKee for this amazing song and your amazing music. As both someone who loves the music and appreciates amazing guitar playing, this hits home ♥️

I remember finding this song when I was 18. I just moved back home after running away at the age of 15. I felt so lost and hopeless. I sobbed listening to this. It hit so hard, and I can’t explain why. I’m nearly 29, married, have a daughter, and am doing alright. So glad to search this song again, and see it to, has grown. Thanks Andy.

Welcome home, a few years late. It pleases me to hear that you got it together and now have a family.
I can't remember when I first heard this song, but it was a long time ago. A friend sent me a link to his cover of Toto's Africa and that lead me to several of his songs. This one struck me (and still does) as a combination of a lullaby and a love song. It's quite emotional and works very well.
McKee's playing is so tasty. I'm grateful to have his music in my life.

I remember where I was too for some strange reason; at my friend Brad's house taking care of his dog for him while he was gone. Couple years later I was able to catch Andy at a concert in TX. After the show, I asked him for music career advice. He said one word: "UA-cam" haha! So I started uploading on UA-cam. Fast forward to today, I've been fortunate to play some small tours and even performed a cruise gig in Europe with a band called "Postmodern Jukebox on Deck". I haven't really "blown up" but I've been fortunate enough to be able to make a modest living performing music. Now finding this in my recommended several years later - man it sounds better than ever. Thank you Andy!

It's probably the best song on UA-cam, since it was one of the first to go viral. And yea, its been 10yrs ago but masterpiece is a masterpieace.

Sounds like a realy new guitar, almost bell-like tone that doest want to vibrate yet - must be wondrous to feel that masterpiece of craftsmanship develop in your hands over years.

He came to New Orleans at a place called "Parish" by House of Blues, twice that I know, putting on a special night of music. Luckily, I was there both times with my wife and I bought any CD he had at the time. In person, he is a gentle and kind man who was so polite. He is the most talented and skilled guitarist to play finger style!

I remember it was exactly eight years ago when I discovered Rylynn on UA-cam and started learning it! Andy McKee was the one who kindled my interest in fingerstyle guitar playing. Thank you sir, you're a legend!

It's interesting to see and hear the changes he has made since the original version. But, this is BY FAR my favorite piece from Andy! Amazing piece. Brilliant. Why? The story behind him writing this piece will pull your heart strings. It's a sad story that resulted in a great tribute, and a beautiful piece of music. Without the story, this piece would not be possible. There is a lot of pain behind this song, and it was translated so beautifully in composition, that it brings a smile to my face. This is one of the best tribute pieces ever written, and one of the most elegant and wonderful sounds to grace a guitar. Mastery and excellence. Well done. Very well done.
