- Welcome back folks! I'm slowing things down a bit more today and showing you step-by-step what I did in order to fully assembly my brand new Woodland Mills HM130Max Woodlander sawmill trailer. If you're looking for just an overview of the assembly, my previous video shows a fast-forward version of this assembly. Today I'll be making reference to page numbers in the owner's manual as I go through and explain some of the things I learned as I was assembling my sawmill. Some of these things may be second-nature to some of you, but some may be very helpful. As you'll see in today's episode, the assembly of the HM130 Max Woodlander trailer does take some time but it is completely manageable with nothing more than some basic hand tools. If you've ever found interest in tightening nuts and bolts, there sure is no shortage of that here today and I'm glad you're all here to join me. Here we go!

Hey Sandy. I just ordered my trailer for my HM126. Your video really helps more than any of the others on the UA-cam channel. Keep up the sawing videos...they help too. From WA State, Bruce
Great to hear that Bruce and am happy I could help!
Thanks for a great video! I do want to point out that for those of us that want to put this trailer on the road, making sure your toe and camber are correct in each wheel is VERY important! I wasn't fortunate enough to have a flat level surface to assemble my trailer on, so I was extra concerned about whether or not the camber and toe were correct. What I ended up doing was assembling the wheel on to the hub and leveling the wheel to get correct camber. For toe, I measured the inside of the tire to the outside frame of the trailer and tightened as I went. If you plan on running this down the highway then you really want to make sure that your camber and toe is correct!
I find it very impressive that bolting together this trailer has this kind of strength it's very well engineered and you did a Great job putting it together really looking forward to seeing how it saws. Great video Sandy and thanks for all the detail
Thanks Jeff. Yeah sure is surprising when staring at all the parts on the ground but sure goes together nicely and seems well done when all finished
Thanks once again Sandy! I just happen to have received my trailer for our hm130max we purchased in 2020 a month ago. Just waiting for the snow to go down enough to pull the mill and here you put out this video timing couldn't be better. Hopefully get it together today. Cheers from the Near North.
So very helpful! Thanks Sandy.
Always happy to have ya along for the tour
Thanks for this! I found it very reassuring to see it can be assembled with only one person.
I'm getting mine this summer and I'm SO EXCITED!!
Hey Liz, yeah it wasn't too big of an issue. I'm no expert by any means and it was completely manageable.
Looks like your almost there. Easier the second time on some of that. I had my grandson help me on mine. Went fairly smooth. Have fun.
Good to hear Gene. It's coming right along for sure
Got my HM122 Max last week. I have watched your videos two or three times, and I still built the dang trailer backwards! As I was mounting the axle brackets I realized something looked off. So I had to remove the jack holders and bunks and turn it all around. Then I got rained out. Now I'm at work. Hoping to finish up later this week.
Your videos are wonderful..... if I'd actually pay attention!
You're not alone. I'm sure i"ve done things very similar many many times. Glad you're liking the videos.
This is going to be interesting to see the comparison from the shed to the trailer. Good detail on the build!
I couldn't pour those nut and bolts on the floor like that. I first time I walked pass them, I would kick half of them into the snow. 🤣
Hey Sandy! Super job on the assembly and putting this step by step vid together! Cheers!
Thanks glad you enjoyed it
Just purchased the HM130MAX Woodlander coming in May, upgrade from a chainsaw mill. Good timing for this video as I enjoyed you putting together my sawmil ;). You, your channel and a couple other guys convinced me this is the mill I need from looking at the capabilities, price to customer service. Needed the Woodlander to easily transport to different sites here in the UP of Michigan. Thanks for sharing, Sandy.
Right on Bruce! UP is a really nice spot!
Every time I watch one of your videos I realize how much I want a saw mill, but I prefer the stationary setup over the trailer version.
Yeah I can see the advantages of the stationary for sure. It'll be interesting to see how this goes for my day-to-day cutting and whether I like moving around to cut moreso than the stationary. Hope all is well with you Wallace
Thank you for this video. I'm sure it will be helpful to many. I would have appreciated very much having something like this when I put mine together. I'm actually not that mechanically inclined and almost didn't get the sawmill because of it; but I did and am very happy with the decision. I found Woodland mills Tech support people very helpful when I ran into problems. Thanks for all the effort you put into your videos. keep up the good work.
Happy to help Paul. Happy sawing!
Hey buddy how are ya? Great video!!! You explain as ya go we all can follow along and see how it’s done before we have to get in there and do it ourselves! I learn best by seeing it done. Can’t wait to see what ya do with you new saw! I’m about to go saw up some cedar for planter boxes for my uncle. Thanks for sharing God bless you and yours.
Great to hear you're out running your sawmill. Cedar sure is nice to mill! Hope all is well with you!
Looks sharp with that stainless steel plates on the bunks, reminds me of when I set up my hm126 woodlander trailer 2 Octobers ago, beginning of winter, my first bad video I did.
It sure does look nice and gives a sense of accomplishment when it all comes together though
Lovin' it!
Thanks Joseph!
Looks like it's a step up for ya buddy.i hope you enjoy it.alot of work putting it together.
Yeah took a good while and hoping it works well. I'm happy just to be able to go visit some friends and cut wood for them
@Sawing with Sandy that's why I ordered mine on wheels.
Very good
Thanks appreciate that. Happy Sawing!
Dear Sandy I was sure surprised when I came to your tube page and found you putting a new 130max and a woodlands trailer together! you hadn't said anything about getting a new mill. Especially a portable mill ! Can you give a little bit of information on your decision? I'm really happy for you
Thanks
Hi Ricky! Thanks for watching. I was hoping to surprise everyone with the new sawmill. Hoping to be able to compare this new unit with my old one as there's some bells and whistles the new one has that I think will be nice for me. I"m also hoping to get out to some friends places and cut some wood for them from time to time with this unit.
I noticed the skinned knuckle; I suppose I have that to look forward to when my mill arrives and the knee pads too.
Yeah the cold weather without gloves causes me to bust the knuckle from time to time. I should really start wearing gloves
@@sawingwithsandy it's okay it's what happens to those of us who work for a living
I guess you're going mobile now lol I'm definitely thinking about getting a second mill myself so I'm really enjoying this video series
I think I'll do a little bit of both just to see how they compare. Whatever I end up liking more I may just stick to full time
MM77 Approved 👍🏼👍🏼
Right on! Always appreciate your support!
Hey Sandy! I'm glad I found your amazing YT channel! I just purchased the HM130max and will be following your lead as soon as it gets here. I'll finish watching this when mine gets delivered in about 8 weeks.
How long did it take to assemble and get it operational?
Just curious how much time I need to set aside. Thanks again and I look forward to more vids!
Hey Max! Thanks for watching. Took me probably a good 8 hours or two shorter days of 4 hours each to assemble the trailer.
@@sawingwithsandy wow 2 days just for the trailer. And you're a pro at this, lol!
I'm a newbie so I'll give myself 4 - (8hr days)... 🤣🤣
Was curious if you could do a quick video on the required tools needed for this? I saw you used a torque wrench and that's a tool I don't have yet. Thanks again for inspiring new homesteaders like myself!!👍
For sure Max. I’ll keep that in mind and try to put that into a video down the road. Thanks again for watching
Those middle gussets. Did you put those on wrong? I thought the 4 holes face outwards so you fasted the ends of the side plates to it
Nice job Sandy, look forward to seeing the head attachment! So what does the Wife Think?
Thanks Marc. Luckily for me Mrs. SWS is very supportive
This is just a repeat of the last episode!
Be sure to watch closely as there’s commentary and page references in this one to help people who are assembling there trailer whereas the last video was on fast forward without commentary
like your channel follow it every week got the same set up 47 hp kubota hm130 woodlander mill
351 winch and a wood lot
Right on! Great to have ya here Carl.
What's that frame under the trailer at 22:00? Did you have a different mill before the HM130
Ohhhh sure now that I have mine and it's assembled you come out with an assembly video 🤣🤣 I'm just giving ya grief it's a very good video that should help a lot of people I know this would have helped me a bunch. I will say however that the xl model has way more bolts and is a bit more finicky to get leveled and square when building it but it is very much so worth the time and effort. Love your videos keep up the great work
Haha sorry I could help Jacob. I can imagine the XL can be a bit more work. Maybe down the road I’ll get a chance to see one of those in person.
i think you did gussets other way around ? 4 holes should be seen ,2 holes screw to bunk
I can't quite remember at this point but I think it worked out in the end
Hey Sandy, Dang I can't get anything done around here 'cause I can't quit watching you videos!!!!! LOL My question here is, when you decided to go from the 130 to the 130 Max, Why did you get the trailer also? I've been debating which way to go myself but can't make up my mind. Do you mill off site from you shed? I can see where that would come in handy and could be very profitable. But is the roughly $2000 difference in price worth it? Or if you could have a do over would you stick with a setup like you had with the 130? Keep the videos coming I don't want to work around here any ways !!! LOL
I got the trailer as it helped with moving the mill around the property a little bit. I haven’t done alot if moving around and so it could always be a good addition for ya if you think you don’t need it now to get it later on
Thanks for checking out the videos. I appreciate your support on the channel. Don’t let me keep ya from working for too long though as you’ll get me in trouble haha
I just ordered my saw mill and was wondering if you ever use a metal detector prior to sawing. I recently bought my land and am unsure if the previous owner used nails or screws in trees. If you have do you have a recommendation on a metal detector?
Great question. I don't normally use a metal detector although I could've used it a few times as I have hit things in trees before. Sorry I can't help ya more here
They make little hand held detectors. I had a regular full sized one that I use. It's a Bounty Hunter brand. It works great.
How important was it that the rails are exactly 37" outside to outside? How much forgiveness did you feel this assembly had to still allow for square cuts? I'm assembling the woodlander xl trailer on top of the crate and finding its difficult to get everything square and level and plumb when the track rails are so overextended beyond the crate, so I'm prioritizing it being level and square with the track rails width differing by 1/8" across the 18' span
I think the width should be very close to 37" just because the wheels need to ride along the rails consistently. I think 1/8" might be ok but I'd have to roll the sawhead down the track to ensure that's the case
👍
Right on Tim'r!
I would love to own a mill like that but due to the fact that I would have to buy the logs it doesn't add up for me :-(
Haved look into a couple of brands and for me the woodland mills are on top of the list.
Yeah I can understand that Victor. The cost of logs can add up and takes away from the money saved when making your own lumber.
Sandy - do you have a sawmill shed so I’m wondering why you decided to get this 130 Max with the trailer?
Hi Scott. Good question. I find the trailer puts the sawmill at a great working height and with the jacks on the trailer allows for easy re-levelling where needed. Also allows me to move my sawmill around to different places on my property
I started building mine and I have a 1/16 difference in the width. it vary between 37 1/2 and 37 10/16. Wondering if this is and issue. Mine is a HM126. When you mesure the witdh of your is it bang on evrywhere?
I think 1/16" isn't enough that I'd worry about it unless I noticed the machine not cutting quite right.
It sure is a lot shorter. Can you get sections to make it longer?
Yeah it's the standard length compared to my other sawmill which has an additional 6.5' section added. This trailer can also allow for an additional 6.5' length added to it. I may end up doing that down the road depending on how I find this one
I like my welded sawmill frame a lot better than all those nuts and bolts but that's a good mill for small trees and a starter up I have a 48 inch wide cut 21ft long and it doesn't have a 🔩 in the frame but I'm down in lower Alabama and we have a lot of big trees down here I have cut some cypress that where 51 inches around
Yeah can imagine those make for some nice lumber.
did you have to purchase this or does woodland mills sponsor you?
One item to point out is that any one in the States, all the nuts and bolts are metric, had to go buy some extra.
That is true that all the hardware is metric.
Should have been boring but you made it interesting.
That’s great to hear. Appreciate the feedback
I missed the part, why did you buy another sawmill? Because you want it on wheels? You could have just added wheels to your old mill.
With all that dough I better see some hydraulics on that mill when it's done .
You never know what can happen
WARNING!!!! Some assembly required. Batteries not included.
That is very true!
No reply needed if you wish not to. But what is your day job the you make your living from ? That's going to be a nice mill. ☕
Hey Jake, thanks for watching. I can say I do a lot of things outside of sawing wood but some of them I keep private from the channel .
@@sawingwithsandy Privacy matters but you are A Jack Of All Trades & a Master at them all!!!
I'm glad your wearing knee pads. Take care of them you only get one pair
That is very true!
Way-way too many nuts, bolts and parts that will vibrate apart. Fabricate a one piece, 3 x 2 square tubing trailer then bolt through the rails down on spacers with 1 x 2 x 2" channel welded to the 3 x 2 11 gauge tubing.
I can see the reasons why that style of trailer may work for ya. Think overall this style of trailer works well for when someone doesn't have the welding tools or knowledge to construct a trailer
With the ease that you are putting all those numerous pieces together all by yourself, I assume you spent your childhood playing with tinker-toys and erector sets…
haha yeah that's pretty close to the truth
i dont no ay you spend money to cut lite log your did wood land gave it to you
I enjoy it
