Hey Freezai, just wanted to say thank you for making Smogon singles more accessable. I appreciated the "dont Need wallbreakers" bit at the end. As a newbie, it seems you don't need to prepare to break All stall teams- just the stall teams that Your team might be especially weak against.
Also, arctozolt with bolt beak, blizzard, freeze dry and sub is an automatic 6-0 vs most stall teams since hippo can't take blizzard, gastro can't take freeze dry and all the other mons die to bolt beak.
It all starts with team building. if your team is structured well to beat stall, you should be able to play almost completely safe, other than a few gambles where if you’re wrong you can try later, but if you’re right you break the team.
Thanks for the video! Although I'm not exactly an anti-stall player, I believe the result depends a lot on the play, so it's fun to try and experiment these combinations.
I think my personal favorite is just running Nidoking, simply because Sheer Force with a learnset page that just says, “yes” is hilarious fun, especially since Nidoking is immune to almost all forms of passive damage, giving it plenty of time to work with to slam into opponents with the appropriate attack. It can even run Superpower to catch Blissey on the backfoot.
Hard hitting Pokémon with focus punch can work too. Because the stall mon can’t necessarily deal damage directly a lot of the time, you can get free focus punches and changes are they don’t have a ghost type. I personally use Focus punch on Toxicroak, but that’s mainly because Toxicroak is just a good dood (and he can snipe toxapex in a way due to water absorb, then set up a substitute for even more free focus punches)
It helps that Croak is able to absorb Toxic spikes, and STAB Gunk Shot or Sludge Bomb tears thru Fairy types like Clefable. Oddly, poison types are pretty good at breaking stall teams, now that I think about it.
@@spindash64 yeah, as long as they can deal with steel types they’re a good stall breaker. Toxapex is hard countered by Toxicroak due to not being able to be poisoned, removing spikes, absorbing scald, and gets a free knock off or substitute to set up focus punches. He can also run taunt iirc to just destroy toxapex
Reuniclus is a really underrated stallbreaker. It hits hard (although not quite Lele levels of hard), and Magic Guard means it doesn't care about the usual chip damage stall relies on.
Top 5 most consistent OU pokes of all time. I would definitely see anything that has massive versatility and bulk as what defines a OU staple. Lando-T, T-tar, Garchomp, and others are mons that have remained OU throughout their entire lifecycle (even if they occasionally switch tiers).
I would love to see a video of “top 5 Pokémon that were OU temporarily.” For example, Galarian corsola was used a ton when it was first released due to there not being enough breakers for it. The same was with Alo marowak because it was used for electric immunity
i remember im a casual NDAG pokemon player and my sweeps kept getting ruined by things like quagsire so i put on perish song mega gengar with shedinja to kill the walls easily, i still use it to this day
I always like to mix just a little stall into my teams. I love high-pressure offensive teams, but their frailty is their greatest weakness, so a couple of complimentary bulky mons helps dampen that.
In most scenarios, I've found that a pokemon with Substitute + Swords Dance/Nasty Plot with good coverage works wonders. My favourite being Lando-T With Earthquake and Stone Edge
Back in XY I had come up with a Stallbreaker Gliscor for a monoground team I'd made for a local thing we ran. It had knock off, taunt, toxic and roost, with poison heal and toxic orb. Her role was specifically stall breaking so she didn't get to see play often, but if needed she could disrupt walls with ease while not really caring for anything they did. It was a more restrictive meta though, and the reason she worked was in part because knew people were not going to bring for example poison or steel types since they knew I've be using monogroud. Still I loved that set
Remember when in doubt against a single stall pokemon. Just run final gambit scarf victini, most stall pokemon just get one shot by it Also victini also has trick to ruin stall too. Not to mention the coverage moves it has. Basically has all the tools it needs to beat stall.
I think a video that went over major team strategies and their game plans would be a good idea. Ie hyper offense, balance, bulky offense, stall, hazard stack, weather etc.
As someone who plays Stall in Nat Dex lemme also say a couple other good ones. First off I'd like to acknowledge that all the Pokémon he did list are super annoying and great at breaking Stalls so he was completely right. 1.Garganacl Garganacl is immune to status and can easily snowball against Stall teams with Iron Defense Body Press sets. 2.Gholdengo (when legal) Gholdengo in formats where it's legal is an incredible Stall breaker as it's immune to all forms of status and has Recover as well so it can easily outlive your Pokémon if you aren't packing immediate power. 3.Ferrothorn Ferrothorn is immune to Toxic, Leech Seed and all powder moves and is also incredibly good at setting up hazards too. He's also got access to Knock Off to remove Leftovers recovery or Heavy Duty Boots. 4.Gliscor Poison Heal makes him immune to status and incredibly obnoxious to deal with. His defensive typing also makes him pretty easy to switch in and his ability to setup hazards, remove them or SD up to sweep a Stall team makes him in my opinion the single most annoying Pokémon to play Stall against. 5.Hatterene Hatterene has a great ability in Magic Bounce as well as access to Heal Bell to remove status from their team. As of this dlc they also got Psychic Noise which is really good against Stall. She's also got Future Sight as well. 6.Amoonguss Amoonguss is immune to Leech Seed, all powder moves and Toxic. It's also got Regenerator and Spore which means it lives long and can put one of your Pokémon to sleep making it harder to make progress. 7.Reuniclus Reuniclus has Magic Guard which lets it completely ignore status and hazards. It also has both Trick which lets it cripple Stall Pokémon and steal their Leftovers. It's also got STAB Psyshock, Future Sight and Psychic Noise as well as great coverage in Thunder, Focus Blast, Shadow Ball and Energy Ball too. 8.Iron Valiant Val has access to Trick and Taunt which lets it cripple Stall Pokémon. It's also got amazing stats for both Attack and Special Attack meaning if it's Booster Energy:Speed then you won't know whether to switch in your physical or special walls. Even then it's got amazing coverage on both sides of the spectrum and it even gets Psyshock so you're not even safe when using your special walls. Now for the Pokémon that are just released that I think will be great at breaking Stall. 1.Iron Crown Iron Crown is immune to Toxic and also has an amazing movepool for breaking Stall. It's signature move Tachyon Cutter can easily break Substitute and it has STAB on Psyshock, Future Sight and Psychic Noise. For boosting sets it even has STAB Stored Power to punish passive play. It also gets Focus Blast for coverage and Volt Switch for momentum. 2.Iron Boulder Iron Boulder has a good movepool full of coverage which means it can take on a lot of different threats and makes it way harder to handle it than most until you know what set it's running. It's signature move Mighty Cleave also deals damage through Protect which is incredible in breaking Stall. It's also got access to Taunt too which further helps it break Stall.
Oh yeah, also Urshifu. Breaking through Protect is invaluable against Stall so being able to do it with every single one of your moves is extremely good for breaking Stall. It does need help however with Toxapex as he said in the vid.
Why did you mention these things in particular: 1. Mons that aren’t good in NDOU 2. Mons that don’t even break stall but instead help in the matchup instead of just outright breaking stall 3. Mons with bad sets (taunt Ival and fsight hatt so real) Also why didn’t u mention the actually good mons that break fat stuff like Ursa heatran waterpon lele and mmedi
@@Eros1078 I didn't intend for it to be only for OU as shown by me putting Gholdengo (when legal) on the thingy. Still I will admit that some of these aren't Stall breakers as this comment was a month old and since then I've learned more about the terms and what they mean so I'd definitely agree that some Pokémon I listed are just problem matchups but that doesn't mean they're Stall breakers. As for stuff like Taunt Val and Future Sight Hatterene those were just meant to show what moves they had access to though I did focus on the fact that what made them so hard for Stall wasn't really those tools but the fact that Val can be an incredibly good mixed attacker and that Hatterene has magic bounce. As for those Pokémon listed I didn't at the time know those qualified as Stall breakers. I also didn't feel the need to list Lele as he mentions her first thing in the video and the first paragraph of my comment stated that he was right and the Pokémon he listed are good Stall breakers. Tl;dr: This wasn't meant for OU only and I'm big dumb and misunderstood what Stall breaker was when I first heard the term a month ago and thought it was synonymous with a problem matchup.
As a national dex player, a gengar with substitute, nasty plot, and a Z-move is really good against stall teams, it gets free setup in front of Blissey, Toxapex, and Clefable and then busts a giant hole in their team or just straight up wins
Love these general knowledge videos man! Even if I don't necessarily run up against stall teams a lot on the ladder, it's great to have a basic understanding of what they're trying to accomplish and how you can interrupt that for when I do come across one.
I started using a modest specs eruption tran on my sun team to beat stall. Shit does 65% minimum against full special pex, so can catch them by surprise when they switch in resists against it for a 2hko
Imo Mega mawile might just be the best stall killer (specific for the National dex format which is what I play) the immunity to toxic plus swords dance is insane
I feel like because Lele is so good against stall, stall teams have adapted and always have a hard counter to tapu lele eg. cresselia, shedinja, scizor. CM taunt lele however basically a free win against a non-shedinja stall team if you have wish support into it. Crawdaunt only beats stall in rain. Trappers + knock off in general are really good against stall, especially heatran. SD kartana is decent, but it gets chipped so quickly with life orb + helmet + rocks + moonblast and stuff, and if it gets knocked, unaware clefable walls it. My favourite stall breakers are taunt knock off/toxic tornadus-t and taunt toxic heatran + knock off and LO nasty plot alakazam, but that one is a bit niche.
@@swallow_skyla3602 I agree with you 100% in theory. But banded crawdaunt get pivoted in on with toxapex or tangrowth or something, and then you can switch into clefable to tank the knock. I guess LO SD crawdaunt cant get pivoted in on because you can SD on the switch , and then if you predict the clefable on the switch and crabhammer it you basically win the game, but it's still reliant on predictions, and if you get any of them wrong then your crawdaunt get's put out commission. twave pads melmetal is good also, but if pex ever breaks through and knocks it off, then it just kills itself with pads, and tapu lele yeah if they have a cresselia, scizor or shedinja, it gets dicey. And the thing is with stall, you have to get multiple 50/50s right, and if you get any of them wrong, i.e. you overpredict, your breaker gets put out of commission by either knock off or toxic.
I'm glad you're taking things a little seriously, between this video's thumbnail or the homophobic Ferrothorn vid. Really refreshing for such analytic videos 💪
Thanks I hate playing against stall because I usually play when I'm on public transportation and it sucks to surrender just because you reached your destination.
I like using guts pokemon to break through. Had fun dismantling a stall team with guts obstagoon which began by two hitting a quag then gunkshotting a clef
With mega Sableye gone, i think Taunt is oso a good way to disrupt stall teams and makes them harder to win games. As stalling usually requires prolonged battles, Taunting them might just let them quit as the match is too time consuming, boring and unworthy to continue
I discovered based on mostly typing then stats and moveset the Pokémon Decidueye is a stallbreaker not a wallbreaker if you are cataloging Pokémon into archetypes there’s a big difference. Ursifu single strike is a wallbreaker probably the best in the game. Decidueye has a typing and moveset that counters almost all main walls. Also has Feather dance if walls switch out to set up for a sweeper.
In gen 8 national dex I love using breloom and heatran against stall teams, Breloom can put Clef to rest, win against Gliscor with Bullet Seed, win against Sableye if it doesn't get burn, win against blissey/chansey and then I have heatran to trap clef, to beat corviknight and skarmory, these two are fun together
Ditto can do well against stall. Even scarf ditto can work if you manage to get knocked off. From gen 7 hoopa-U and mega Gyarados works decetly as well

Fun fact. Back when I played natdex I used a stall team with a weavile
this was fascinating.
could you maybe do more on team build types like this? i'm not really sure what other meta linesups there are, besides stall.
I love Salazzle to break stall. Corrosion is such a good ability pair with encore to prevent healing. Not so many stall mons are ready to face.
That’s actually a great idea. A good way to buff a UU power ability and give ways to beat stall
Love these general knowledge videos man! Even if I don't necessarily run up against stall teams a lot on the ladder, it's great to have a basic understanding of what they're trying to accomplish and how you can interrupt that for when I do come across one.
As someone who despises stall with a passion, this is officially the greatest UA-cam video I have ever seen.
Man, I loved that thumbnail lmao
The best way is just playing gen 9
Mold breaker is good at ignoring unaware
The best trapper is obviously Magikarp. Nobody ever switches out when I bring it in.
Freezai saw the “cropped freezai thumbnails” twitter account and decided to make an uncroppable thumbnail
Any excuse to see the 5th Crabhamner in a row is always good
I started using a modest specs eruption tran on my sun team to beat stall.
Prankster taunt and haze help a lot in this instance imo
I pretty much always have a choice item swapper on any team I build
For lele, see bkc's analysis on power of passive damage
crawdaunt is so strong bro it’s fucking insane. giga chad incarnate
RIP old thumbnail you will be missed
Neat analysis video! Thanks for uploading!
How about "Top 5 most niche/unique/weird roles" or such?
More proof as to why Tapu Lele is one of my favorite mons
I would've never guessed that Future Sight, of all things, would've become a useful move. Pretty cool application!
Yeah, but stall players are adapting to it, running protect to protect them against that.
I want to see a OU ladder climb now and your team building insight during
Here we are ... Freezai finally found the way of success on UA-cam. I'm all for it.
i miss the original thumbnail,,,
Twitter user 'cropped Freezai thumbnail' will love this one
Damn the other thumbnail was hilarious
I'm glad you're taking things a little seriously, between this video's thumbnail or the homophobic Ferrothorn vid. Really refreshing for such analytic videos 💪
What an interesting video, loving the variety!
My favorite anti stall tactic is swords dance rock polish rampardos it's inconsistent but fun
Freezai please my guy, don't tell people how to beat me please, that ruins my fun. This information is confidential my man.
Between all the people complaining about Stall, it's nice to see someone that actually goes and tries do do something about it.
Thanks I hate playing against stall because I usually play when I'm on public transportation and it sucks to surrender just because you reached your destination.
A pokemon I would suggest is calm mind magic guard reuniclus, it has quite a good matchup against most stall mons
Thumbnail reminds me exactly of Big Yellow’s video with the level 85 Chansey strategy in RBY with the Lickitung
I like using guts pokemon to break through. Had fun dismantling a stall team with guts obstagoon which began by two hitting a quag then gunkshotting a clef
My favourite is Heatran and Fini, cuz they have taunt. And i love when i hit magma storm 😂
Finally learning from Big Yellow's immaculate thumbnail game, eh?
With mega Sableye gone, i think Taunt is oso a good way to disrupt stall teams and makes them harder to win games. As stalling usually requires prolonged battles, Taunting them might just let them quit as the match is too time consuming, boring and unworthy to continue
Magic guard Reuniclus is my personal favorite stall breaker
Trick room teams can beat stall sometimes because of how raw power is
The best stall breaker, in my experience, is Corviknight.
fascinated by the prospect of Grassgmag teams
I'd love to see top 5 setup sweepers, any gen
knew the goated quintuple Crabhammer play would make it into the video let's fuckin go
I prefer the old thumbnail
Top 5 Lele checks would be interesting.
Lovin the thumbnail. ❤
remember boys, nothing, NOTHING wants to switch into a banded t-tars stone edge
Ditto can do well against stall. Even scarf ditto can work if you manage to get knocked off. From gen 7 hoopa-U and mega Gyarados works decetly as well
My fav way to break stall is called LO arctozolt
It has the right moves to crush 90% of stall stables and the power to destroy them
I was wondering if someone would put that one. Yeah, bolt beak, blizzard, freeze dry and sub beats everything I can think of defensively.
