My first time hitting the trail was in a Subaru Outback when I was 15! We acquired my mother's winter beater while my parents were at work, got it stuck and had to call friends to help us recover it to get it washed and back home before 5:30pm lol It was a great time and started my lifelong love for the trail!
A Suby is the only soft roader I'd even attempt to use offroad. I've been places in my SH Forester that it should not have gone. I'm extremely hesistant to do that in a CVT equipped modern Forester, as I can see the high loads cooking it, especially with this "no service" mentality.
The CVT pulleys and steel drive chain are manufactured by German automotive components company Schaeffler under their LuK brand. Very sturdy & reliable.
I’m an archaeologist and the first car I bought was a 2009 forester. It got me everywhere. Even fell into a ditch on my front end and had no trouble driving out by backing up. Had it till this past year. Only issue it ever had was that after around 100,000 miles on it, it began to burn oil a little bit. But that thing was amazing. I miss it. I wasn’t even the original owner. It’s crazy that people don’t think of Subarus as off-road capable vehicles. I live in Southern California and lived in an area that it snowed in for the last three years. Waiting to see about buying a newer vehicle, but out of my price range. Luckily my company finally gave me a work vehicle, but none of the trucks new or old that I’ve driven over the last 4 or so years, including tacomas, silverados, frontiers, wranglers, and the odd xterra, which was better than any of these too. (which were bad but not the worst). Matter of fact, my Subaru was such a beast that I donated it when I got a full time work truck. My fiancé bought a brand new crosstrek. It’s pretty beastly, but the interior isn’t so great. Then again, As an arch we have to be able to drive anything we’re given off road. Including 2 wheel drive, which I know isn’t great, but again, I’ve never been stuck worse than in any of those off road ready trucks.
@@therightcar funny you say that, our 2nd car is an i30N that’s coming on the end of its salary lease and I’m swapping it for a Navara Pro 4X Warrior 😂
In the UK, most people have cars on PCP finance and certainly wouldn’t risk a lease car off road for fear of damage. New Subarus in the UK are driven mainly by old people who pay cash for them to go down the golf club and Waitrose.
I've had my 19 crosstrek for over a year and she's been a beauty through anything I've needed her to do.. even have a set of winter tires I swap out for the season she gets me where I need to go when I want

I’m sorry I can’t say if it’s any good in snow. I would imagine it would be a great option for you, though. Pretty accomplished all-wheel-drive crossover.
X Mode utilizes the wheel speed sensor on each axle. When it senses a wheel speed increase over the others it will apply the brake on that wheel causing the torque on that axle to be applied to the none spinning wheel
I live in Brazil and we don't have many options from Subaru. Here we only have the New 2022 models, Forester 2.0 aspirated and hybrid and the XV 2.0 aspirated hybrid. I've heard people say Subaru hybrids aren't great, I'm not sure why though, do more research yourself. Personally I'd get the non-hybrid because I don't care about fuel economy and its less to go wrong. However they are very reliable cars provided you not interested tuning the engine etc, and you keep it serviced. They say its a forever fluid, but no fluid is Between the Forester or XV really its up to you, both have very similar capabilities and comfort. Add the AWD option to just about any cheaper competitor. Suddenly that'll cost the same or more than the Crosstrek and have half the standard safety features. Not to mention worse AWD anyway. And it's a car not a pair of heels, what does the "shape" even matter?
The crosstrek for what its worth, is a underrated beast off road
Agree

The CVTs in the wilderness come with a cooler.
ignore manufacture service intervals. DIY drain/fill on the CVT isn’t terrible difficult
The older cars just do it right! Also suby has a somewhat superior off-road running kit compared to heeeaaaps of other cars
Subaru CVTs are actually decent

I had a subaru impreza outback, 1996 and she did what I needed her too offroad
Love the old Outback!!

Good articulation means the wheels _don’t_ break contact with the ground.
The suspension articulation here is WAY better than other small SUVs. Many have 0 flex.
@@therightcar oh. Relatively speaking. Cool.

Perfect for Chicago roads and alleys lol
CVT heats very fast, it needs cooler gear box like in the wilderness.!!
Fair point.
But it would be more expensive.
i would love that. plain 2.0 or maybe 2.5, but wilderness transmission
I had a Subaru Impreza Turbo and I one day I had great fun making “donuts” in a field.
Does the 24 crosstrek come with the front view camera and top down one?
Yep, you can see it in my review: ua-cam.com/video/nVCHhpkyhxM/v-deo.html
If I was careful and picked and chose my spots I could get my Prius over that road. Give that thing a proper test!!
I'd love to take you up on that.
There is one for sale at a local TRUSTWORTHY lot close to me. I live in Indiana and we do get snow. Are they good in snow?
