It's going to take a few consecutive watches to fully grasp what Pf. Aggelos is presenting, but still in my ignorance the new version of Ouroboros looks fantastic.
@@arthurh1969 Ouroborus is a longest chain consensus protocol and for security reasons it has a limit to the frequency of how blocks are created, this limits the throughput to about 8% the theoretical maximum. To overcome this consesus is being modularised by separating consensus and transaction execution. In this new model there will two types of blocks: - Input Blocks: These are batches of transactions that have been verified by block producers alongside an Input Block certificate (Mithril proof) - Ranking (Consensus) Blocks: These include references to input blocks that are accepted and ranking to avoid double spending. It doesn't execute transactions as those are already prevalidated in the Input blocks. It just handles the agreed upon ordering of the input blocks this is really important because input blocks are made in parallel so non-malicious double spends are inevitable. The most beautiful thing about this is that it offloads script execution and validation to block producers a lot like rollups. This is just what I think he means and most likely will contain issues

Aggelos Kiayias explained it all so well and I am glad IOG is putting out content to educate us the community. Even at that I need a couple of passes on the video to get a good grasp on the information.
God damn, the initial explication of how longest chains protocols leave typically 92% of the available communication throughput is pure majesty. Cheers proffesor!
Great video! Only comment I would have is for future videos, when you show a formula, you could add the variable names/descriptions somewhere on the screen.
It helped me to enable captions and pause when I needed. (I did that, for example, when he was introducing the proportions of honest (pH) and adversarial (pA) parties since it was difficult for me to decipher his accent at that point.) I think that adding too much text might clutter the screen and become something of a distraction. The geometric representations are great. Perhaps more of those with fewer variable names would help. Overall, I agree with you that it's an excellent presentation.

does it need to? if adversarial here is defined as intent to double spend - which would be filtered out by the inputs endorsers cross checking each others work way before it gets to final confirmation - which i’m assuming you’re referring to as main chain. all this btw is happening on main chain.

This is what cardano needs approachable explanations of it'stechnical aspects by the researchers, really nice and helpful
Beautiful introductino to Input Endorser and another use of Mithril at the same time.

Does pre verification with Mitchell imply instant finality?
Does this give main chain an ability to identify input endorsers as adversarial?

From 8% to the max, so a sweet 12.5x speed increase...
From 8 to 100% is actually a great deal :)
Isnt this post-hydra stuff and we'll have to wait for a decade or so to have it ready for production?
