  • It has taken time for Alexandera Houchin to weave layers of her identity together. First and foremost, Alexandera is an Ojibwe woman. She’s also an artist, a farmer, a mechanic, a cyclist and a person who cares deeply about her community on the Fond Du Lac reservation near Cloquet, Minnesota. “Stronger Together” takes an intimate look into Alexandera’s life while examining concepts of identity, forgiveness and what it means to merge seemingly different aspects of your soul in order to continue moving forward, one pedal stroke at a time.

"I think about a million things when I'm racing. I think about my body the most, and how in my day to day life I'm disappointed in my body. But when I'm racing, I'm so in love with my body." God damn, that is so accurately stated and a perfect representation of how I feel myself. It's powerful to hear another woman say that out loud.

The part about only loving her body on the bike is so beautiful and sad at the same time. May that love spill over more and more into her time off the bike. Wonderful short film, her voice is that of a storyteller. I hope to see more.

Congratulations on the film Alexandra. You’re an inspiration to a lot of people, not just cyclist. Keep doing what you’re doing.

Amazing movie. Alexandera - you are gorgeous. We are very often our worst critics, hope you will learn to love your body one day

The part about the body - its resilience that could be loved - moved me to tears. This is awesome. Could have been 40 minutes long.

I read an interview with Alexandera on Pinkbike, was fascinated, searched for more about her, and ended up here. So glad I did and so appreciative to have found out about her. Best wishes to her in everything, and thank you Freehub for making this video available.

While my circumstances are so very different from Alexandera's, I can empathise with her identity journey. Those of us who ride bikes can certainly relate to the "cycling as therapy" part. We probably all have issues that we treat by riding. I enjoyed this very much.

Well done Alexandra you are an inspiration to the Native Americans to the female gender & all bicyclists even out of the ultra racing group. I was SURPRISED and glad to see this video.
as I am traveling through New Mexico at this time heading to southern Florida from where I reside in southern Utah at this time. I resided in Duluth Minnesota and raise my daughter for 14 years. With many times riding through your reservation with my friends. Enjoyed your UA-cam video immensely.

What an absolutely amazing & beautiful woman! I'm happy to hear you got clean and found bikes as your release, along with learning about her heritage. I chuckled and thought of the meme of Simpsons Martin getting thrown back into his house through the front window say "me after talking bikes with my friends who don't bike" when she was talking about "talking bikes". LOL! Great video!!!

This was beautiful in so many ways, thank you. I think many of us ride to help make sense of the world, ourselves, and to find our happiness within it all. So. thanks again for taking us along on your journey. I'm also of native ancestry (VA) and Alex's adventures have help inspire me to complete the AZT 300 and the Stagecoach 400. Hoka-Hey sister :-)
