I hope you guys enjoyed your trip this story about Mary (my mum and 2 aunts) brought happy tears to my eyes so proud I wish they'd been here to see it.
In the 1950s my dad, Hugh Paterson, did a LOT of cycle touring around Scotland. I don't think he made it to Skye. But he and his pals went all over the highlands on 10-speed bikes, and even rode all the way to London and back one time. He used to tell me, "Miles build stamina, but hills create character." These ladies have both in spades! Live long and keep pedalling!
500 miles back in 1936? Woww....truly an astonishing achievement! Even by today standard looking at the difficult terrain, it is an amazing achievement.
Greatttttt !!! really good job filming and what a huge trip !! badasses !!!! Would love to ride this incredible route and taste scottish hospitality !! 😎
Really enjoyed watching that, thank you for making and posting this amazing bike trip.I always knew Scotland was beautiful now that film has completely sold it to me.......I want to load up my bike take the twelve or so mile ferry crossing to Scotland and just ride.
Beautiful film, beautiful country. So pleased to see my old colleague and friend Thomas (hostel manager in Glencoe) in it. Such a shame, I haven't visited him, since he moved there from germany (many) years ago. But the day will come...
Such a beautiful film filled with fun, laughter and scenery that is beyond magnificent! Interesting to see gravel bikes and not MTB given the difficult terrain.
We are great grandchildren of Alpheus Bancroft Harvie, born in Newport Landing Nova Scotia (1860-1937. Are we related to Mary Harvie? We have many wonderful women in California - we MUST be related !!
What a superb film. Really enjoyed the nod to history with Mary's story. Would be great to normalise that kind of adventure today. Really enjoyed watching Lee, Phillips and Alice's journey through the Highlands. I am visiting Islay and Jura in September, utilising the amazing facilities of Hostelling Scotland. More videos please.
Absolutely wonderful!!! Love the spirit, play, and all around happiness that the ladies were having. And having backpacked in most of those places, it was so wonderful to see them again. But this August, I'm coming back to *bike*pack the Highlands and looking forward to staying at a few of the hostels.
