@@theturnedtable2605 I have nothing against Baltmatrix but his overly critical reviews and voice got grating after a while. MIB’s videos are always hilarious and informative at times.
I am old enough that this game was a pretty serious part of my childhood entertainments, so it's nice to see a younger generation getting a chance to appreciate it as I did. Yeah, some parts of it have not aged the best and it can be a little on the slow side but the presentation, especially by the standards for its time, is still incredible and helps make the whole experience more fun. I was always sad NECA never made a figure for this Godzilla like they did for "Blue Godzilla" from the NES game.
4:03 Wow, Epyx really was shameless, the artwork for “Mechatron” is a near-exact copy of the box art for Generation 1 Transformer “Topspin” from 1985, just with a goofy new head (yeah, i’m a huge old-school TF fan too 😅)
6:17 - It's like a more cartoonish version of the scene from "Godzilla 2014", where Godzilla falls over in exhaustion after defeating the female MUTO via "The Kiss of Death" toward the end of the movie. I gotta say, I really admire the attention to detail the game programmers put into that small bit of animation, alone. :)
It actually does look like that, although this one looks more like he’s having a heart attack before falling on the ground, still interesting tho. Also did this games menu predict/inspire the menu sequence for war of the monsters? or am I just making that up.
@@MonsterIslandBuddies on Evercade’s official channel. It will be part of their C64 collection so a later version of the game than this one but one which retains all of the gameplay and systems
Godzilla's dramatic death animation reminds me of Godzilla 1954 in Godzilla Daikaiju Battle Royale where he roars his death roar for nearly 10 seconds before collapsing. But at least here, he actually looks like he's being dramatic
I had CC&C as a kid and absolutely loved it. I discovered it was all written in BASIC and my earliest coding experience was just hacking around inside it, trying to change the rules, add new monsters, etc. Probably why I'm a coder as an adult, honestly! Years ago now, there was an ambitious spiritual successor to these sorts of games, They Came From Hollywood, being developed. I'd been looking forward to it back in the day but given how they haven't posted an update on how development's been going since 2008.... I think there might just be some bad news there. Oh, well, maybe somebody else will pickup the torch soon!
You should totally check out "King if the Monsters" for the SNES from 1991 and the sequel from 1992. Both are really fun match up games and the sprites and level design remind me of the Japanese Destroy all Monsters Domination game you reviewed the other week. I played the second one more because there was more monsters in the roster. And the Neogeo version has more levels and a different final boss.
I had this game for the Commodore 128. Glog was actually my favorite because of his special ability (which sadly you didn’t mention in the video). Since he was made of acidic ooze, you just had to rub up against a building and you would hear cracking sounds as you crept away. Eventually the building would collapse just from the monster touching it as the acid ate away the foundations.
Never herd of this one and that is actually really neat. Great sprite animations even though the buildings are a bit oversized and awesome cover art. Thanks for sharing mib
When I was younger I tried to come up with ways to update the predecessor of this game, Crush, Crumble & Chomp! . At very least there needed to be a plant monster option and a way to recreate the old monster customization mode.
A C64 game that was waaaaay ahead of it's time in the same vein as this was "Mail Order Monsters" by EA. Back when they made original titles. You got to choose from a bunch of different giant monsters, outfit them with weapons such as swords, lasers and grenade launchers, then battle them to the death. Good times.
I think there was a rerelease of this C64 game recently on one of those retro console things with a bunch of built in games, but the Godzilla license was not retained and the character was modified to reflect this.
I guess for the price of the license, they only could get Godzilla, because you can't tell me Sphectra wasn't supposed to be some sort of Mothra pastiche. I get the feeling that's why it's a wasp, not a moth. And there's no way that Mechatron isn't supposed to be a parody Voltron.
Not gonna lie but that roar part of godzilla I just started imagine if godzilla had a Itchy throat that is the sound of godzilla trying to roar but it didn't work so it sounds like that.

We need a monster movie simulator for unreal engine 5. Xbox1, PS4, Xbox Series X and S and PS5, Nintendo switch, and Steam Pass. Put Open world maps of at least 30 major cities.
I remember my Dad's friend giving me an emulated copy of this game when I was a kid, because they knew I liked Godzilla. And I just hated it, it was super glitchy, the controls didn't work as they where intended to, and the monsters would just die in a couple of hits. I'm sure the emulator I was using at the time couldn't handle it, or the copy might have been borked somehow, but I got super pissed when I just loaded into a level, took two steps and immediately died.
Even on emulations it’s a bit of a pain to figure out the controls. I had to “trial and error” it until I figured it all out (even then it was awkward controls). There are some emulations that give you options for invincibility and speeding up the game… highly recommended!

At this point the uncomfortable 9/11 reference could become an animated character within the MIB Universe.
I can somehow see this happening. Dunno if he'll be a one-off character or a recurring character.
