I understand that Super Godzilla is boring, I've played through it twice, it gets even more boring/annoying.

@Latest Obsession I have it. It is super fun. There is a ton of room for expansion with different kaiju and scenarios; but given that nothing has been done so far, it sadly looks to be DOA.
@Latest Obsession It was released in 2019 or 2020. Granted, the pandemic may have thrown a wrench into things, but there seems to have been little push from Funko when it first came out and even less about it after. It simply may not have sold all that well.
Loved that when you started talking about random encounters like 40 ads started playing, great immersion MIB.

I could live with controlling Blue Dotzilla, but the boss combat is undeniably confusing. This is one of those rare games where the game manual sheds light on how the fights are executed, but when you're a kid, you ain't got time for that stuff! And as an adult, you *definitely* don't have time for that stuff, so trial and error learning it is. It took me years before I had the patience to complete the game, but being able to witness the birth of Super Godzilla and the introduction of the "new" monster Bagan are memories that will remain with me.
This game is definitely not for everyone, and not even one I would readily recommend, but I still really enjoy watching other fans take the plunge and experience it for the first time, in all its awkward 16-bit trumpeting glory. Great review!
I think the only good part of the game IMO is Super Godzilla. His design does look rather crazy and beefy but I like it that way and he's the reason why SpaceGodzilla exists since he's one of my favorite monsters even though his movie is kind of... not well-liked.
Reading manual is one of the most exciting gaming thing out there. As a kid and now as an adult I always read the manual before playing a game, installing a system, installing program, etc.

Lol I remember buying this game as a 11 year old and being super excited to play it only to be frustrated and annoyed by it's design. It took me a few days to just figure out how to attack the enemy lol! It wasn't until I became a teen, raised my gaming skills and got the rom of it that I beat it and grew to really enjoy it. Still waiting for Bagan to make a film appearance haha

Fun fact: someone is actually remaking this game in RPG maker, the blue dot section is still the same, but combat is now a turn based RPG. Way better than....this

I know this game has it's mountain of faults, the thing that annoyed me the most was the fact you couldn't save your game & would have to start from scratch every time. But with that said, it brings back so many memories as a kid playing it in the TV room & my Mom watching & cheering me on, for that alone it will always be 4 stars to me.

Honestly it's nice that we get to see MIB in full when he's reviewing or just talking about stuff. He's very expressive with his movements, so it's like you're watching an actual character. I've said this before in a convo about youtubers and I'll say it here too, MIB has been one of the best examples of someone who has been improving so much on their content as time moves forward and that makes me really happy to see.
This was my first Godzilla game and one of my favorites when I was a little kid. I know this game is flawed, but I think because I grew up playing it, I can't hate it. It still has its challenge and there's a lot of great things to come back to for myself. It's at least easier to understand than Godzilla 2: War of the Monsters!
A lot of the reasons why MIB says it sucks I can't argue, but I love this game and enjoyed playing it.

A neighbor of mine owned this game and I've played it. The combat system made no sense to me at all and I could never get past the first level. I'm glad to see validation that I wasn't the only one who found this game too hard and not fun at all. Great review, MIB!
Edit: When are we getting a review of Beat, Beat, Mothra? I wanna learn more about Mothra's Idol career! This story must be told, lol!

Super Godzilla isn't a bad game really. I especially love the Japanese version. In that version, you face the Heisei MechaGodzilla.

Great video MIB! Gotta love a Godzilla game in which you play Godzilla by non-playing directly as Godzilla and instead you are a wandering blue dot, with random battle encounters and confusing controls!
Personally, I want to try Super Godzilla for myself before I pass judgment myself. Still a good review, though.

My friend Jordan and I rented this once back in 94. Just ONCE... We played it until 10 Friday night and promptly went back to finding secrets in DKC by Saturday morning...

Great ending. Loved this game as a kid, as an adult yeah its tedious, but still love the nostalgia of playing it with friends. Never fought mecha-ghidorah as supergodzilla cause I never could find all the super energy in time. Last 2 fights were brutal, but when you transform, priceless.
Best way to think of this game is that it isn't really a fighting game but instead an unusual take on the JRPG genre. That's why you get random encounters, healing items, ect.

I think this score and review are totally fair and your commentary was both accurate and fun to hear! I'll admit to being a fan of Super Godzilla though, and not for nostalgia or anything like that (I didnt get it until I got a Retron 3 for my 17th birthday and was filling out my gaming library).
To me, Super Godzilla has always been like an odd little Godzilla RPG. It's wierd, but in a way I think it really captures the feel of Godzilla's Heisei era, including the pacing and the combat. I dont really think it's "good" but I enjoy it every once in awhile.
Also, somehow i had no idea Bagan was in this game when i played it for the first time, so my mind was blown. That experience alone made this game very special to me, flaws and all.
Love that opening. I love the obscure stuff :)

Owned this game all my childhood and never once beaten it. Almost always died to Mechagodzilla (got to the very end once but Bagan ended up beating me)
I thought Super Godzilla was cool but after this review, I can see the problems. But it was cool to see Bagan in a villain role, with all of the scrapped movies and ideas
As a Mothra fan, I’d have thrown a fit at “Fanny” for not getting to hear about Beat Beat Mothra lol

I had a cousin who had this game. I felt bad for him because he sounded so hyped to play it. Then we sat down to play and he got… this game. Turns out he got it mixed up because of the infamous ad on Nintendo power for Godzilla: Destroy all monsters, also known as Godzilla: Kaijū Daikessen.
I played this as a kid on my SNES and wasn’t a big fan of the game and thought it was bad 😢. Wish we could get a good Godzilla game now

Seems like every youtuber hates this game but I love it. It was my 1st SNES game and I've beaten it god knows how many times. 25 years later and I'm playing it on my steam deck now. Still have my original cart in a custom case I ordered online.

this was my very first Godzilla game....it was also my only godzilla game until I got godzilla destroy all monsters melee, as tedious as it is, it'll always hold a special place in my heart.

NGL, this game and Final Fantasy II were the main reasons I bought a used SNES in the mid 90s. I recall beating it at least once.
Yeah I still couldn't understand how the game worked when I tried it on a emulator back then.
Also Space Godzilla wore the Super Godzilla design better. lol

I was going to make mention about that but I felt it would make sense either way given the character.
I remember trying to play Super Godzilla on my computer, but I didn’t played it much because the fighting system was confusing as hell and using the controls on a computer was difficult to use. But at least Bagan (my favorite scrapped Toho kaiju) appeared in something and was memorable in Super Godzilla also Super Godzilla as well for being a recycled design for Spacegodzilla.

Played this game as a kid and completed it almost ever summer
Played this game a lot when I was little so I do have a big soft spot for it, while it does have it's bright spots like the graphics look really good, the sound effects and music are top tier and bagan being included is very awsome but the gameplay is it's biggest flaw with the instructions being very cryptic and the world map being annoying so I see why people would not like it.

Oh glad to see you finally review this. Even though it’s not really my favorite Godzilla game. I can’t get past the second stage because Mechagodzilla keeps ramming into me whenever I try to punch him. Seriously I have a better time playing through monster of monsters.
Wait till you get to Battra, ONLY ONE FUCKING ATTACK can hit him and is the one that requires more energy than the rest
