A fantastic engine. This was my very first nitro engine for R/C. I bought it brand new from my local hobby shop. It has about three gallons through it, 24 years since new and it still runs like a champ.
I have one of these that I want to use as part of a test stand for another project. I understand that you generally need the prop for flywheel action. My question is, is there a flywheel I could use in place so I can make things a little safer for what I’m doing that will satisfy what the engines needs?
10x7 is a bit too much for that engine (my opinion) - A 10x6 is the norm for that engine and for a scale model I would put an 11x4 ... Regardless, the OS FP-40 is a classic sport engine that is hard to beat !!!
Hi David, I also have an OS 40 FP new in box. My OS 46 is shot and therefore I was considering of installing the 40 FP in my Ugly Stik, but I'm worried about power. I know it won't perform like a 46, but will flying be sketchy and unstable. What have your experiences been with the 40 FP?
The 40FP is a really nice, reliable engine with lower power than most other 40-46 size 2 strokes. If it was going into a trainer I would use it, but if you want fast performance go with a larger engine.
What your experience about engines with crank bearings and the others? I believe that there's no much diference in horse power it should be a matter of running temp at the end. Durability? bearings are always in rust danger when you place engines out of run for years. Regards. Charly
Bearing replacement is something every glow engine modeler should need to be able to do to maintain the engines. IMO. Any type of engine will be problematic if not shut down and stored properly for long term non use.
Hi @Mohammad S , if your engine is a 40 Max FP, it takes the bolted muffler # 843 ( i.e: www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/s-843-muffler-os-max-fp-40-rc-24428995 ) # E-3030 fits too (i.e: www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/nip-os-e3030-muffler-fits-32f-32sx-35-1671863797 )
The 40FP uses an air bleed screw and not a low speed needle. The rule of thumb for ALL air bleed settings is 50% hole coverage as the starting point. I mention this in many videos as well.

Heat and oil
Hi David, I need to buy a muffler for the OS 40 FP. Do happen which muffler I need to buy. I don't have the part number.
Many thanks

What is the recommended starting positing for the idle mixture screw?

Whats the normal idle speed of .40 2 stroke? For this particular engine you have to aim for 3,000rpm?
I don't think is there a rule of how low an idle can be. The manufacturer always has RPM specifications in the manuals.
do you your ebay store
sell your engines on ebay .? would you care to share the name of
No I do not have an eBay store. When I choose to sell an engine I sell them on RCGroups.
