The engine will turn around 10,000 rpm on the ground but will unload once you get it up high where the air is thinner it will run at a higher rpm. The FP40 will run very nicely using a 10-6 prop. If you are getting a lot of air bubbles in the fuel line this usually means the prop is not balanced.
Very good video! The fuel contains the oil for the bearings, and helps cool the engine too. When the engine is static on a bench; the top speed RPMs will be less than when it is at speed in the air, meaning that the mixture must be towards the Rich at WFO Throttle when static. OR it will go Lean with the add'l RPM's when flying.
yah man, i dead stick ALL the time, but im actually using the recommended "Break in" prop....I would like to use a smaller prop anyway due to the plane will never land, its like the pitch is way high or its too long....Im telling you if putting a smaller prop on there works out, I owe you a pizza...NO body even mentioned the prop when we were trying to figure this out! and these are all experienced nitro guys.
I have an os .40fp and the manual recommends 11x5 I could only find 11x6 and 10x7 on 11x6 it max at around 10 000 rpm witch seems strange since it should be around 13000 i know is an old engine but what do you recommend doing thanks , how does a high pitch effect the plane i have a trainer type
hi - what is the fuel consumption of that thing ? . I wan to use it in slow movement application - to bicycle beeing propeleld - what kid of prop I should chose ?
+Wojciech PVB you cant use this to propel a bicycle with a human on it, the thrust is nowhere near enough for this... these engines are designed for use with model airplanes/helicopters only, trying to use those somewhere else would be pointless and dangerous
I have asp nitro engine on my low wing plane.. The engine shuts down unexpectedly everytime. What could be the cause? I notice there is buble on the pipe between the engine and fuel tank when the engine is running and i suspect it could be the reason although i am not sure. Any help will be appreciated.
Patea Chongthu You are picking up air bubbles from your tank. Ways to stop this from occurring; Balance the propeller. This will minimize the foaming in the fuel tank from vibration. Wrap the fuel tank in thick foam sheeting for stabilization and vibration dampening. Use a good clunk with a built in filter. Make sure that the clunk tubing connection is tight to eliminate any air suction at the connection.
Patea Chongthu I've addressed to air in the fuel line problem. Next, quite often, the reason for these engines to just stop in flight is due to running the engine too lean on the fuel mixture. When tuning at startup, adjust the engine to best lean condition. Then open the needle valve two to three clicks richer. Doing this compensates for the faster RPM's in flight. Thus you will not be running too lean of a mixture while flying. Trial and error will show you how much open the needle valve.
who buys nitro engine now a days most people now can get 50cc 60cc 100cc 120cc 150cc 220cc of raw power so yes nitro will lose to electrics but electrics loses to the bigger pertrol engines
Also, love the sound of an engine in an airplane, electrics are more like flying a kite, too light(gets blown around in the wind) and cannot run at full throttle for a good 15 mins but to each his own..

If it would run at all it would rev to high without load and seize. Terrible suggestion

electrics cant fly as long. charging sucks. unless you want 400 $ in batteries
i still like flying them occasionally
