Chromecast is one of my favorite devices, and it's something that I think everybody should own. In this video I'm going to show you the Chromecast setup process and how to install and use a Chromecast. The Chromecast is a $30 device that lets you wirelessly stream anything from your web browser, most likely video, to your HDTV. First let’s go over what you need in order to use and set up your Chromecast. You’ll need an HDTV, a WiFi network, and a smartphone or computer. When you first open the box you’ll see a quick start guide on the inside cover, and you’ll see the Chromecast itself. The Chromecast is small, about the size of a thumb drive, and it has an HDMI connector on the end. The rest of the box includes a USB cable, an HDMI extender, and the power adapter. The first step is to plug the small end of the USB cable into the Chromecast. Next, connect your Chromecast to one of your TV’s HDMI ports. If your Chromecast cannot fit into the area near your HDMI port you’ll need to use the HDMI extender to give it a little more room to fit properly. Next step is to power the Chromecast. There are two different ways to do this: one is to use a USB port on your TV if it has one. If it does, just plug the USB cable into it and it will power the Chromecast. If your TV does not have a USB port, you’ll need to plug the USB cable into the power adapter and plug the power adapter into an outlet. So once your Chromecast is powered on and connected, next step is to change your TV's input or source to the HDMI port that your Chromecast is connected to. Once you’re on the correct HDMI input you’ll see a screen like this. Now to set up the Chromecast you can use a smartphone, tablet, or computer but I’ve found it works best with a smartphone so let’s do that but the process is the same on a computer. Open your web browser and go to Chromecast.com/setup, and that will open a page with a link to the App Store so click on that. The App Store will open the Chromecast app so click on Install. It is a free app. Wait for it to download and install then open the Chromecast app. Accept the terms. It’ll scan for Chromecasts. Click Set Up a New Chromecast. Go to your phone’s Wi-Fi settings and select your new Chromecast. Look for the same device name you're seeing on your TV screen. Select it and wait for it to connect. Once it’s connected, go back to the Chromecast app and it should say it found a new Chromecast. Hit Next and make sure your input source is showing the Chromecast so that you see the code on your TV screen then hit Next. Choose your country. Give your Chromecast a name. Tap choose WiFi network and select your WiFi network from the list then enter your WiFi password. The Chromecast will connect to your WiFi network, and when it’s done you’ll see that it has been set up successfully. You can cast from your smartphone, tablet, and computer as long as they are connected to your WiFi network. It works with many different apps and to see the full list you can visit Chromecast.com/.... To start casting from your computer you’ll need Google Chrome Google.com/chrome. Once you have Chrome on your computer, open it and search Google for “Chromecast extension” and click the first result. Add the extension to Chrome. Once it has been added you’ll see the new Chromecast icon in the top right of your browser. That’s what you’ll click to cast to your TV. So for example to cast a UA-cam video to your TV, while on the UA-cam video watch page you can click the Chromecast icon in the bottom right of the video or click on the Chromecast icon in the top right of your browser and choose your Chromecast in the drop down menu. Once you do that it will start to play the UA-cam video on your TV. This works with any browser window in Chrome, and it works with many more different websites. Now I’ll show you how it works on your smartphone or tablet. First make sure your phone or tablet is connected to your WiFi network. Then open a compatible app such as UA-cam and now you’ll see a Chromecast icon in the app or on the video that’s playing. So tap on that icon and choose your Chromecast name and it will send the video straight to your TV. To stop casting just tap the Chromecast icon again and tap Disconnect. So that is how to set up and use your Google Chromecast!

What if I can’t find my chrome cast
Is there a way to bypass needing a WiFi network and using you're smartphone's own data connection with out relying on a WiFi network? I have my phone's WiFi set to communicate with chromecast but for now I don't have any WiFi in my house and was hoping to just be able to use my phone's own data network. Any help on this?

I purchased a Chromecast Ultra and plugged it into my TV, which is eight years old. I know I have it plugged into the correct HDMI port and the TV is set to that channel. But I don't see the setup screen. Is it because my television is so old?

While playing video via tablet or phone to tv.. Does it transmit audio as well? I mean will sound still be coming from tablet/phone or the tv?
It transmits video and audio so both will be playing from the TV, not your device.

Sweet. How did you set it up? The Home App tells me to go to the Help page. There it tells me that I can connect with the Home App.

hey I found one of these and I have it hooked up to my TV just like you said do and everything is working good but one question is the only way I can watch something on the TV using this is to use my phone tablet or laptop or can I not use any of those and just use my remote for the TV to find stuff on Comcast what does everything has to be streamed from the computer phone or tablet

I only mine to work on facebook and whatever else not bothered with UA-cam as this already works for me through normal wifi casting for my tv I've got a feeling the current tv connection I have with UA-cam perhaps interfering with this.

Nice quick rundown, but I'm trying to figure out how to set up the TV Queue for Chromecast. Do I need UA-cam Red? Can I set up a queue and have it download for watching later? I have slow WiFi and get lots of buffering pauses. Do you have suggestions for these issues?
Are you talking about a UA-cam queue? You should be able to do that with the normal free UA-cam app.

Hello and thanks for the video! My problem is that after watching some UA-cam videos, I wanted to go back to TV. I disconnected Chrome Cast from my phone but it won't give me any control to the TV. The remote won't work and trying the menu from the TV won't work either. My regular input port is HDMI1 and Chrome Cast is in HDMI2 slot. Do I need to just unplug the Chrome Cast stick from the back of the TV in order to watch the television? Thanks in advance for any advice you have!
dmcite No you shouldn't have to remove the Chromecast from the TV. You should have control of the TV like normal after disconnecting via your phone. Not sure why it's doing that.

+rap RD Chromecast would not need a password protect. It's your router or wi-fi network that's hopefully password protected.
I have a Samsung series 5 TV. For some reason when I go to the App Store on my TV it does not show an app for SLING TV (when I go to the App Store on my other Samsung tv which is series 6 TV, there is an app for Sling TV). So I’ve been googling trying to find out why I can’t get the app. I did find out that I can add the app to my Chromecast on my Samsung series 5. But, I have been trying to figure out how to do it for about two weeks. I am so frustrated. Could you please help me figure out how to add the Sling TV app to my Chromecast on my Samsung series 5 TV? How do I unlink my iPad from using chrome sat, cuz sometimes it hit the button where it connects to my dads tv and my dad doesn't like that. I keep hitting it by accident cuz it's next to the X button on the top of the screen. I don't want to have access to the chromecast from my iPad.
From my understanding it will always appear as long as you are connected to the same WiFi connection as the Chromecast.

A friend of mine gave me her chrome cast equip. she didn't want it , so I set it up ..and her name and pin appear on the bottom of my tv screen...but I notice the pin beside her name changed once to another number..what does that mean? is that normal for the pin to just change like that?

Hi Andy, is it like this : The casting icon will appear on every app that supports Chromecast if the phone is connected or the casting icon appears even though we have no Chromecast. Your answer would be very appreciated. TQ
Yes the casting icon appears only in apps that support Chromecast but the casting icon only appears when you are connected to the same WiFi as your Chromecast. I hope that makes sense.

Hi, I have google fiber, and when I saw this chromecast on sale at Best Buy I thought that I needed it.I followed the instructions, but when it got to the connect screen it just sat there. I messed around with it for a couple hours and got frustrated with it and took it back to Best Buy. So what I find interesting is that now my tv and cell phone now does what I thought chromecast was suppose to do.I know that google fiber has so,e of these functions built into their setup. Could there have been a conflict with the two?

I assume that by casting from a smartphone you cannot get the video to play in 1.25, 1.5 or 2x speed like you can on the browser?
I don't think that's a feature yet.

Great tutorial thanks.However despite getting my Nexus 7 and smartphone streaming, My computer(windows 7) cannot see the chromecast despite only being a few feet away.I have tried everything suggested on the google help site(Re-booting devices etc) but nothing.?..Do I need a bluetooth enabled Laptop ?. Thanks for any help
Lord Lucan No it doesn't use Bluetooth, just WiFi. As long as your computer is connected to the same WiFi network as your Chromecast and you're using the Chrome browser then you should see it. I'm not sure what the issue is.
I'm thinking of cutting my cable soon. The thing is my cable and Internet are combined. If I did this, could I use a hotspot device to get Internet and than stream using this method or would it not work using a hotspot device?
caramelgoddess89 You could use a 3G/4G/LTE hotspot. Just make sure it has good service and fast download speed. But usually hotspots charge more for the data you use, and if you're streaming a lot of video you may surpass your data limit easily with a hotspot. You could just cancel your cable but keep your internet. That would be easier.
