When I went to Africa, we had pineapple and pineapple and pineapple and it was amazing. However, it made my tongue break out from the acid. It reminded me of a trick my great aunt taught me. Once you cut a fresh pineapple into wedges or whatever formation, sprinkle the pieces with salt, leave it on for just a moment or two, then rinse under cool water. It neutralizes the acidity, makes the tongue happy, and makes the pineapple sweeter. She also suggested that to find a ripe pineapple, pull on a leaf from the crown. If it comes out easily, it's ripe. Pineapple tips!
When I was in the Dominican Republic I drank SO MUCH fresh pineapple juice I woke up one night with the most intense heartburn I’ve ever experienced, it was wild. Love pineapple 🍍
Pineapple contains bromelain which is a protein digesting enzyme. So when you eat it, it's also eating you 😂
I too have eaten pineapple until my mouth literally bled.....no regrets~
I'll try things
Wish i had known that before cali....i had so much citrus my tongue hurt and swelled and i got the runs
my pineapple loving daughter whose favorite color is yellow, watched until Emmy cut open the pineapple, got mad it was pink, and walked away... I don't think she thinks it is worth the $50!

You'll find wrought iron and concrete pineapples as decoration in the south. You'll see them on top of fountains.
Wow! Well I guess I learn something new every day. 🤣
Exactly what we were commenting on, too!
They have been a symbol of hospitality for centuries....why you see them above doorways in old new England houses

Mmmm yellow watermelon 💛
Exactly my thoughts!
And white strawberries
My brain's on autopilot so I read this as "yellow pineapple" and I just sat here for a hot minute like _all pineapples are yellow what am i missing why did so many ppl agree w this_ whoops
Not the same thing at all. Yellow watermelons are completely natural and older than red ones. Whereas these pineapples are genetically engineered.

"One, buttered corn-on -the -cob,please."
The shade of pink of that pineapple reminded me of one those canned Dak hams...
When you propagate, you have to cut it with part of the fruit. The way they cut the crown, won’t grow.
$49 each is quite steep. I’ll pass.
Thanks for sharing 🇺🇸
but why the way they cut the crown...the stem tissue is at the bottom. Could you please explain me? I would really like to know
@@sandramorales6647 you are right that the stem tissue is in the bottom of the crown. However you need all of that bottom part of the crown. To do that, you need to cut part of the fruit so that all of the bottom crown is present. When you plant it, the roots will grown from the bottom of that crown and part of the fruit rots.
I saw the title "pink glow pineapple" and immediately started singing *"FRUITY FRUITY FRUITY, FRUITY FRUITY FRUITS!!!"*

our family cut pineapple in wedges like that but serve it laid out on the skin, with toothpicks, each wedge served with a tiny piece of mint and a little piece of red glace cherry, nice at Christmas.
That sounds lovely! I'd never think of putting pineapple and mint together but now that you've said it I can totally see it
Me: I WANT ONE
Emmy: They're $50
Me: Nevermind!!!!
Im from Costa Rica, and I agree that that's not a cheap pinneapple, but also the normal ones are extraordinarily cheap, people don't notice how difficult it is to grow pinneaples on crops, it is way to expensive and prices are very irregular. I know many families who lost all their money and end up in misery cause of how cheap pinneapples are selled in relation to how expensive they are to grow.

Hi, Emmy! Happy Halloween/Dia De Los Muertos! "One buttered corn-on-the-cob, please." I've never heard of a pink pineapple before! I love your Fruity Fruits series because you encourage me to try new fruits that look intimidating to taste and/or cut open. That's how I cut my first fresh pineapple this summer... best summer fruit ever, in my opinion! XD Also, the name "Pinkglow Pineapple" sounds like a name for a female cartoon character, maybe a superhero, or one of Strawberry Shortcake's friends!
I loved letting my kids buy weird fruits so they could discover stuff like this xx
Aliyah Pulido or an erotic dancer. Miss Pinkglow Pineapples on stage tonight 😂😂😂😂
@@missesvee5132 I was thinking more like a "Sailor Moon-type" cartoon!
I read about these pink pineapples a couple of months ago, very aesthetically pleasing with that beautiful pink colour, but not worth the price. I too like the slight tartness of pineapple sometimes...another unusually coloured fruit I think you should try (if you are able to track some down in the US) is red kiwi fruit, grown in New Zealand. Their inner flesh is red and gold/yellow, with a slightly lighter brown skin than green kiwi fruit
i don’t know if they’re the same but golden kiwi are the only kiwis i can eat without my mouth burning! but they’re amazing!
@@crankthatrebecca12 they’re a bit different, but they’re just as good as golden kiwis. I usually prefer the gold to the green because they’re sweeter, sometimes the green can be a bit tart

I just watched a video on this by Weird Explorer last night. These fruits seem interesting

He would be a nice guest for Emmy's videos.
Same 😄
I was looking for a comment mentioning Weird Fruit Explorer-
Amazing that I wasn't the only person who's watched his pink pineapple video in 24 hours before Emmy sent out theirs-
I love how honest you’re Emmy, much appreciated
Thank you Emmy for showcasing this interesting pineapple cultivar. I too enjoy eating and growing pineapple as well as other bromeliads. And I live in the Arctic with the midnight sun ☀️
Hopefully, pink glow pineapple will become more available as plants over time.
Ps, you did not mention in your video about whether your pineapple had seeds. I have grown many pineapple from seed that are found in the fruit near the peel. Of course these plants will have genetic variation and may not turn out as pink. So check your expensive fruit for seeds. 😉
I can give you my personal tips on growing pineapple from seed if you like.
Please do. I frequently wait a bit too long to cut my pineapples and there are seeds. Still taste good, but I wouldn't mind trying to grow from seed, and I've never been successful getting them to grow from the crown.
@emmymadeinjapan said something about taking off the leaves? I'd never heard that, maybe that's what I'm doing wrong?
@Rachel Perlow ... sure, well the 3 import factors will be warmth, light and humid air.
It's the same for mature plants as well. When you collect the seeds, place in a bowl of water for a few days. I think this might dilute the juices and hormones of the fruit that normally inhibit germination of the seeds. The clean seeds will need light, humidity and warmth. (room temperature is okay too)
I've heard of people placing the seeds on moist paper towel inside a ziplock bag but, that's not how I do it.
I use moistened "long fiber" sphagnum moss. Same type often used for growing orchids. I find it inhibits mold and bacteria better than paper towel. Instead of a ziplock bag, I use a transparent container that can breath a tiny bit. (An environment of 100% humidity almost always encourages mold). You can do this in a jar, a terrarium or what I like to use is those small plastic boxes that small fruits and berries are sometimes sold in at the supermarket. They are transparent and perforated with small openings for air exchange so the contents can still stay humid without rotting.
Just drop the sends on top the moist moss, (don't bury or cover the seeds, they need light) keep in a well lit area and occasionally spray with a mister if the medium becomes too dry. (Avoid "direct sun" as your mini greenhouse can quickly overheat.)
It takes a few months before you will notice tiny green rosettes sprouting from the seeds. (It's important not to leave drops of water on these tiny plants for too long) they like humidity but are not as tolerant of standing water on their leaves (particularly in the crown) as other bromeliads.
They are slow growing and can be planted out after about two inches in size.
Hope that helps, good luck 😊

I'm not interested in growing anything (circumstances), just curious about how things work, your comment was an interesting read, thank you for sharing.
@wilfing ... thank you too
I just saw Weird Explorer do one of these videos. I think you'd enjoy, he's trying as many fruit types as he can :)
You need to try a Kauai Sugarloaf Pineapple! When ripe they are sometimes overwhelmingly sweet and I recommend not removing the core of these pineapples because amazingly it's almost sweeter than the flesh! Also the inside of these pineapples are very light, almost a pure white color. I definitely recommend trying this pineapple!
Can you propagate the stump on the top they left
Worth a try.
I was wondering the same
They sometimes cut off the top to the point where it wont regrow. We have a mini sugar pineapple in hawaii and the company cuts off the top before they go to stores to keep locals from growing them
@Ann Tinnin very interesting comment. Where do you live? Somewhere warmer than Chicago.
I wondered the same thing...they cut off all the greenery, but left the part that will root. I guess it just depends on if that part would survive long enough to grow new leaves.
So many people have been saying the same thing regarding the crown. That they’re just trying to prevent people from growing it themselves. Would I like to try this? Yes. Would I be willing to spend $50 on one? Absolutely NOT! I’ll go get 25 pineapples for $2 instead at my local store lol

I live a bit south of where (until a big freeze and a series of disasters in the 1890s) most of the pineapples sold in the eastern USA were once grown, Jensen Beach, Florida. So many people try backyard pineapples.

I was thinking the same thing LOL! Because of the way they cut the crown off oh, it looks like there's still enough of it left on the fruit to grow roots.

In the mid 1980s on a family holiday to Maui, we went on a drive along the north shore past Napili & Kapalua. We found the most delicious smaller pineapples for sale at a roadside stall. They had that pink hue to their flesh (but not as dramatic as the one in the video) and they were definitely sweeter and less acidic than the typical commercial pineapples.
