In the room I use for media storage (mostly records but also cds & dvd/blu rays), in addition to shelves lining the walls on either side I created a center aisle with tall, free standing shelf units arranged back to back facing the walls on either side. It greatly expanded my storage capacity. After years of having stuff in boxes I finally have most of my music & film collections visible and accessible. Creating additional shelf storage is always a work in progress.
I found a mid-century purpose build laminex record cabinet with the iconic tapered legs for $10 which holds about 100 records then I’m going to start filling the deeper shelf spaces on my 2 wall units. I usually only pick up records when I see them in thrift stores for about $2-$5, so it’s a slow process but fun. I only own about 90 records. Lost my great 70s collection that I collected as a teenager in a flood.
Great review just finishing another LPBin metal storage rack spray painted rust-oleum 2X charcoal gray. There about 500 each have 2 absolutely love them! We had a flood in our house last year on a slab no basement. So for me everything off the floor Lol Thanks for All You Do! I’m into Fedora hats now because of you. My wife thinks I’m Freddy Krueger Lol Once in a while I give her a scare when she least expects it Lol
Cool record boxes Mazzy I’m slowly running out room my music room it’s just a 10 x 10. We have to keep adding to more records for newly discovered gems love that Cream hat 🎩 🥂
What a coincidence I’m at this moment sorta kinda organizing some records. Well actually putting records into another box to control the overflow. I buy these plastic vinyl record containers from the Container store. They are sturdy stackable and work great. They come in two sizes and hold 75 lps small box, large holds about 125 lps. You say there’s always room but space is finite.
The challenge is real. I started by using Ikea Besta for storage and added to that until I ran out of wall space for it. Then I gradually filled up my old Ikea Bonde (just like yours). I added a couple small Besta shelves elsewhere. Then moved box sets to be on top of the Besta. And still I'm running out of space. I've recently put a few artists in boxes on a big Costco wire shelf. I don't like that as they are hard to access. I just passed 5,000 records in my collection, I really need to do some paring down (or come up with a new place for expansion).
My local off-price place here in rural Kentucky had a ton of crossley boxes that look like the old peaches crates. I got four of them for fifteen bucks each when they're fun to use my super high rotation stuff. Also, because of the various sources I used to get records, some not so great, I use one of them as a place to put any record that I open up and find that it needs to be cleaned. And is that box fills up, I go clean them all. I love the two boxes are branded crosley. It's oddly ironic.
@@mazzysmusic I'm coming to Seattle in August for my mother and father's belated wakes. I lived in Seattle for 46 years before I moved to Kentucky in 2011. I think it would be fun to get together to Starbucks the politics would have to be off-limits since you and I are complete opposites in that area. And frankly, that's what would make it fun we can discuss the things that we have in common and ignore the other stuff.
No, there is not always more room. When we moved from Sarasota FL after 40 years of my life there (I spent 22 years of my life in NJ), for Tennessee, we decided to retire about 4 years earlier than anticipated. My wife was kind enough to gift me a "man cave" even though it technically isn't. She said I could house my record collection in this specific spare bedroom, but nowhere else. I also have my reference audio system there which is a collection of vintage (Advent speakers) and relatively new (Acurus P10 phono and Aragon 18K). My LP collection numbers around 3,800 but I am spent, both physically and monetarily. The bulk of this collection was obtained at garage sales in the 80's, 90's and first decade of 2000's just south of Tampa Bay where I literally obtained about 75% as people dumped their collections for pennies on the dollar in pursuit of "perfect sound forever". God rest her soul; this room was always a point of contention for my 96-year-old mother-in-law who recently passed but had lived with us for the last 13 years. Not only did she resent the loss of space that could have served as a sort of "safe house" for some derelict members of her family, but she hated everything about the 60's and I mean EVERYTHING (especially the music). (I overheard a telephone conversation with her "white supremacist" son that I was a good son-in-law and took good care of her, but I was a "communist" because I had voted for Obama and was not terribly fond of Nixon or the Vietnam War). My collection spans everything from the most obvious choices of bands from that era but also some wonderfully great Bebop jazz represented by Monk, Coltrane and Davis to just mention a fraction. I also have some great "easy listening" choices (Henry Mancini, Frank Sinatra) and a liquor store box full of choice classical music. But it's over. I don't have any more room and my wife has firmly stated that the collection will not spill over to any other part of the house. I'm really OK with that!
Those Bin-e Heavy Metal Vinyl Record Storage bins are fantastic. I noticed them in an earlier video in your living room. Love the design. Shame that the manufacturer doesn't ship to Europe.
There is always room . If I put My Bed out in the 121 Degree Heat on Saturday. 😅Bullhead City. Arizona. Saturday to Monday 121 Degrees all 3 Days . Send Me Some Snow this winter .
Mazzy, now that your record storage issue is solved, how about framing that A HARD DAY'S NIGHT lobby card a viewer (not me, people) was kind enough to gift you. All you need is an 11x14 frame, which you should be able to pick up cheap at a thrift store (no need to go to a frame shop) and it would look great in the space right above your Beatles Butcher Cover poster.
That lobby card is very cool. Problem is I have hundreds of interesting music related photos and posters and not much room left to hang them. And Beatles are everywhere. But that definitely a cool item
@@mazzysmusic You're talking to the choir here, Mazzy. I have over 700 original one-sheet movie posters (27 x 41) and my home is 2,000 sq ft, not 40,000 (and I don't want to discuss the number of dvds housed in Casa Karl.)
You can buy apple boxes/ crates that work a dream , there are plenty made even now , they tend to sell for £25/30 each , but with a little patience you can buy authentic old apple boxes for £5/10 each from marketplace …particularly if you live in more rural parts of the U.K. where old farms often have a load of old boxes…. You can drive a screw through them to link them together if you want height or just “brick-bond” them together if you want low length …..the beauty of old authentic apple boxes is they often have the name of the farm burnt into the wood or if your lucky an old paper label still attached to them ….instant chic!
I have a few vintage but clean wood milk crates that I use for expansion. I find them aesthetically pleasing and they do the trick,
Those are really attractive. Keepin’ it classy, Mazzy ….
Thanks. I also like they are really liftable ✌🏼
Looks like your son is going to inherit a lot of records. Hope he likes music too.

Target has some really affordable wooden boxes that are perfect for holding extra records. They are around $20 each. I have like 10 of them - Chris

Hard to believe the Cream Albert Hall Concert was just about 20 years ago. That would have been something to see.

In the UK TMAXX do perfectly serviceable wooden crates/boxes from £14- £20 .....
Where's the link to the $24,000 shelves?

But it blocks all the lowest shelves. It would drive me crazy.
