@Sarah Rantala an afro is not "only for white people" in any sense. And it takes a certain texture to form a proper afro (i.e a texture/hair type that is tight enough to defy gravity to give the afro effect). That girls hair was too limp to be an afro

I get where y'all are coming from but you have to look up the definition of these things. Afro: an afro is a natural growth of curly textured hair, in any length kinky texture hair, OR specifically styled with chemical curling products by individuals with naturally curly or straight hair. I understand the outrage over the word she used and that it derived from the word afro american but she isn't technically wrong. Her hair was in a curly heap or curly state that was a long length. If she had used a different word I don't believe people would be upset but since she did not here we are. She isn't technically wrong, she should have just used another word. Don't come for me I'm not picking sides just seeking to educate and maybe be educated as well. I'd anyone knows more I'm all ears 😊

She really doesn't have an afro The thing about it is that people use curly and kinky/coily interchangeably a lot, even though people associate curls with ringlets or looser curls, but an afro is much tighter in curl pattern. Also, note that I said tighter not just tight. Her hair is not the shape of an afro, it's curly and is weighed down a lot. It's like saying that being black has a definite definition when really being black is skin deep. An afro isn't just what you see, but what it really means too. Personally, I don't think she has an afro. People love to say that they have afro hair because it's frizzy when that isn't what an afro really is. Not every black person has an afro of course

I totally agree with you my mom used to get my hair in braids during the summer because I have really curly and thick hair and I swam but she always took me to an African braided and she Taught me the importance for your braids.
I see some people around me (during school before Covid hit) wearing box braids but not knowing the history about Africans in history classes we share together. And when they were taught about it, I see one or two people asking: “But other cultures wear it aside from Africans, it doesn’t belong to them”

4c hair also reacts differently depending on whether its dry, wet, long, or short. Some people with 4c hair have crazy shrinkage, while others don’t. How the hair fans out really depends on the person and the length of the hair. People don’t take into account gravity or weight at all.

Her wearing them wasn't the problem (though I did side eye when I saw them) it's her not giving credit where it was due. It's not even difficult 🤦🏾♀️

Right. A hairstyle does belong to a race because they made it df. For instance, rap belongs to black people because we made it, but it doesn't mean no one else can participate. I don't know why people are so scared to give black people acknowledgment or it might just be jealousy. I hate when people have a sense of entitlement. Last time I checked, it's my culture on your head. You may have a right to where whatever you want, but when you insert yourself into a culture that's a different story. People don't realize that you can't just dip into cultures like a french fry without any significance. When you wear something from a culture you have to realize that you are inserting yourself in another space and most importantly she is a white girl or white-passing person, so she has a lot of privilege especially for someone to be that entitled. People will find her hairstyle cute and even her loose curls cute, but find the tight coils and box braids on a black girl ghetto or it wouldn't be praised as much

I don't know why people get triggered when we say factual stuff. We created that hairstyle why is it so hard to understand? It can be owned, created, and belonged to us, but it doesn't mean you can't wear or something like that. It's so weird how people think acknowledging black people is the hardest job in the world. Black people have been rendered exclusive from many things in society, but now it's our job to be very inclusive or to be very accepting? We just want our credit where for many years we've been looked down upon idk why it's hard to understand. @@bandaqueenlove9134 As an Asian, I stopped wearing braids cause some people told me I couldn’t wear braids. But I see others wearing braids and I’m just genuinely confused.
After learning a bit more about where braids originated from, the first thought I had was: “Okay maybe they don’t like me wearing braids because I’m not African”. I also learned about braids originating from Africa because people in our Asian culture doesn’t really speak up about where braids come from. So I can see the difference in how braids are more important to Africans than other people.
I still need to learn more of course, I’m no expert in anyone’s culture aside from mine.
How do I let people know I acknowledge African culture and how impressive they are? I see other Africans telling me I don’t appreciate it and just think of the braids as mine, they don’t even give me a chance to talk.
I stopped wearing braids and just tied it in a ponytail. Been a decade now. I’m still dumb yes.
my issue with non black people using black hairstyles is that they get praised for it while we dont. a black girl with braids is ghetto but a white girl with braids is fashionable. we wear braids to represent our culture and grow our hair. other people do it because it looks good. it literally doesn’t benefit them at all.

Our braids that we wear are African hairstyles. Cornrows come from Africa, that is why they are being called Ghana braids now. That hair style is from the Ashanti tribe I believe. A lot of the braiding hairstyles done in the West are African, they haven't changed much. Some hairstyles Black America people have created, BUT the majority of them come from Africa.
The lip combo at 8:30 I think you can get a similar color orange with is ‘Spice For Me’ orange in Maybelline’s universal lipstick colors line. Then I personally top mine with Fenty’s ‘Hot-Chocolit’. See what happens and shout out if it works for you. I may do a look on my channel 😂😂❤️

With the whole box braids (cornrows, etc.) thing, all we’re saying (some of us) is, “If you’re gonna use it, use it right.”
For people who dont know, anyones hair will look a different texture when its wet vs when its dry. Even white people with curly hair go through this. So you cant *accurately* judge anyones hair texture when its wet, or even damp.

Laying edges is our culture. People should know that. Everyone has baby hairs and anyone can brush them down! But gelling them down and making a style out of it came from black people as simply brushing down our baby hairs won’t even work for us.

@@bme7995 For the most part everyone does have baby hairs. Baby hairs are just the tiny hairs that grow around the hairline. But bc most peoples baby hairs can lay freely due to different hair textures, “laying edges” became something that black people do to make baby hairs more visible and styled.

I think sometimes people don’t understand 4c hair because when you wet it , comb it while it’s wet and etc it will look close to 4a, 4b hair , but when it dries you will see that it’s actually 4c.

But they aren't. And Im not angry about it I'm only sharing my opinion. Edges are just baby hairs that you brushed. Before the boom in "slaying edges" many people of MANY races have their baby hairs out. Ours just looks different but it's the same thing as a white person whose edges arent brushed down but are shown. I'm not angry she said it's only for black people though, I just don't agree.

Black people started the culture of laying edges with gel and pomade. We aren't saying no one has baby hairs, we are saying that black people started laying down their edges primarily. I don't know why people get that confused. Also, edges/baby hairs is also a term used interchangeably. By baby hairs, sometimes it used to say that the hair is already swooped not just the natural ones you have. I see what you are saying, but just to add in factual info

A lot of girls have 4c hair but have high porosity so it looks different in the shower or in water. My hair don’t lay down at all in the shower and I have 4b and low porosity

The girl who went underwater def has 4c, but her hair was wet so I think that's why she thought it wasn't. The two girls she showed with long hair don't have 4c hair. I looked at their Tik Tok and first one (the one with the long hair when wet) is more 4b because the coils she showed (that she said was 4c) look exactly like my 4b. She has 4c parts but not everywhere. I have 4c hair in my hair and mine are much tighter. Secondly, the girl who showed the Pantene product doesn't either. Her hair is a mix but it's not entirely 4c. People confuse texture with curl pattern

lol i recently started shampooing my hair all in one section and it makes everything move faster for me tbh. my hair tangles up when i shampoo regardless so i just detangle and section when i condition :))
same sis regardless of my hair is always going to have tangles until I put the condition in my hair so I just wash my hair in one big sections 😭
Also btw the reason why it tangles (or the strands seem inseparable or are stuck together) is because the shampoo you are using is extremely clarifying or stripping. That's why people use rinse-out conditioners after because they coat the strand to smoothen the surface since shampoos give off that stripping wiry feeling. If you hair feels really stripped, you may have to leave the conditioner in for a longer time. Clarifiers aren't bad because they do wonders for your hair, but not everyone likes the feeling. @@bandaqueenlove9134 thank you lol! and yeah i use clarifying shampoos so i always use a very moisturizing conditioner and leave it in for 5 minutes so my hair is fine and never feels dry or anything but thank you for the info✨

As a half white/half Mexican girl with super thick course naturally extremely curly hair. I've always loved black girl hair! 😍 I give yall the most props and love for your beautiful hair and how much work yaol put into it on the daily. I've never been able to wash my hair alot , not even every other day I stick to once a week and dry shampoo if necessary. My hair is unruly and breaks combs and brushes, it takes damn near 15 min to even get completely wet in the shower enough to wash so I tend to do that separately then my full body showers becuase I run out of hot water and thankfully its crazy thick becuase my hair fallout have is ridiculously crazy.. I do not have any clue as to what to do with it. For these reasons and also my neice and nephews being mixed and always wanting to learn new things to do her hair and make sure she knows she's beautiful and her hairs beautiful, I love watching these type of videos. I have wore braids before , never have I caught any backlash for it but I also love everyone and I feel like that is what makes the difference. These other girls seem as though they do their hair in these styles in hopes to upset the African American community. As a half white woman it disgusts me. Whats the point!? How hard is it to be like "got some fresh braids , shout out to the beautiful brown queens for their impeccable taste and ability to slay" smh bc facts yall are the realest! My best friend and sister was a mixed beauty sadly she passed away from diabetes . I fought for her rights then and il continue to fight for them now . Becuase its the right thing to do. We can never earn or work our way into heaven, but He took our sins and we only have righteousness through Him, so that we didn't justly go to hell! 2020 has definitely taught us that we're not in control and that times are ending, but God never changes and He will always be with those who seek Him and Jesus will take His elect to escape the coming tribulation.
