Hair grows regardless. As long as you are alive your hair grows. However, less manipulation to it and keeping it clean and moisturized helps you to retain its length.
I think it is low manipulation that makes hair thrive as well as not using too many layers of product and washing it regularly. I think it is a combination. And the combo helps RETAIN not grow your hair cuz your hair already is growing regardless
Takoko is Yoruba and loosely translates to anything that is not smooth / difficult to handle/detangle , in the context of natural hair. A lot of hairstylists tend to say that when they find your hairstyle difficult to work with, hard to comb through, knotty and yes it is often said insultingly or with lots of shade because they expect everyone to hate kinks and embrace a relaxer or any straighter option your hair can be manipulated to.

No, ma'am. They are using the right hashtag. Because they know that a lot of us with real type 4 hair truly desire type 3 or straight hair altogether. A lot of type 4 women will watch their biracial "hair crush" before watching women who look like them. Honestly, it's sad that we fall for such disingenuous marketing tactics. Personally, my hair has been growing so fast since my big chop and the biggest change to my routine has been washing my hair weekly (even when it's in PROTECTIVE STYLES). It has completely changed my hair! My detangling is a breeze, my scalp no longer itches and flakes. My hair is just overall softer and easier to manage than when I was going 3+ weeks without washing it. I work out more because I'm not afraid of sweating, not to mention, I don't have to load it up with products to hide the smell of a dirty, oily scalp.
Funny because for me it’s the opposite. My hair are soft, smell very good and shine if I wash them every 3week/1month. I extreme moisturize them once a week or even once two week. They are happy like that. (And I work out too so I sweat)
I have long (almost to my waist) type 4a/b hair. Honestly what’s helped my hair grow is leaving it alone. I don’t wear wings or anything but I leave it in protective styles for weeks while adding moisture regularly until I’m ready for another long wash day 😅

I think it's genetics and not manipulating the hair. Towards the end of her life, my grandmother kept her hair in braids (extension-free). It was easier to manage. Her hair grew to her waist. I've been doing braid-outs where my hair stays mostly in braids and my hair has grown significantly. And I've stopped using heat. Once or twice a year only.
@@Gladiator_in_a_Suit I believe genetics do play a part because looser hair textures appear to grow faster due to the ease it takes for the strands to pass through the scalp. So if the texture is passed down, it makes sense for the growth to be passed down too.
No. The biggest factor is length retention. The average person can grow hair from anywhere from 1-3 feet long. The reason many black women don’t reach their full terminal length is due to poor hair care practices that do not help with length retention. Low manipulation styles is a method to retain length.
@@Anne_one I do agree that length retention is a major reason. However, I still believe some people's hair grows faster than others, even if they're doing all the right things. In part due to their genetics.
@@KelcyPassportbyDesign ease it takes to pass thru the scalp makes no sense. Looser hair grows faster bcz it gets tangled less. Which is why low manipulation grows blk hair and staright hair retains length the most.

You are not manipulating it too much so it allows your ends to rest and not be over manipulated. Basically, you are the queen of length retention!
I would say it’s the low manipulation that grows hair. If it’s untouched, it will grow for sure, question is only if the hair is strong enough to keep the length or if it’s breaking the same rate it’s growing after protective styling takedown & you want to enjoy it out more 🥰

My honest opinion on scalp scrubs is some will work better than others, the tighter the curl the finer the scrub should be in order for the scrub to actually reach your scalp I’ve notice even with my hair type it’s hard for certain scrubs with large grinds to properly reach my scalp

I have all the 4s in my head yay. And I like using scrubs. I use the Taraji P Henson scrub. Especially after my protective styles. It is nice for me especially to get my scalp buildup washed away. I tend to have dry scalp
You’re totally right on how different methods work for different peoples hair type/texture. I recently just lost 1/3 of my hair due to heat damage my past stylist used to apply on my hair every two weeks, but I stopped going to her and found a really sweet older woman to start doing my hair, and I learned lots of things and methods about my hair. One major thing is that my hair type (4c) is more on the easier side to slick back and have more of a cloud like texture. So I learned that the products(blue magic grease)I’ve used since childhood have clogged my pores throughout the years and produced walls of build up onto my scalp because it’s to heavy for my softer hair type. I was in complete shock when I learned these things because lots of black people have grew up on grease so learning that I couldn’t use it on my hair anymore was just mind blowing.
The only scalp exfoliator I can use (type 4) is Nexus scalp scrub. It literally melts as you exfoliate instead of trapping those little exfliator beads that other products have. It's sugar based so you really can make your own diy
The type 3 girl was there because she’s talking about hair type outside of the number system. Most likely she tagged all hair types because it’s something everyone can learn from
I don't use scalp scrubs. Just another extra step. Sometimes I let diluted Apple vinegar sit in my hair for a few minutes before washing. But most times to get rid of buildup, I wash my hair 2 or 3x with shampoo and use the scalp scrubber tool and then do my conditioner. Then detangle. Then put in my deep conditioner.
I have type 4 hair and I have started using a scalp scrub within the last couple of years (specifically the one from Not Your Mother's) and I love it! I not only noticed a difference in my scalp, but I noticed a difference in the overall health
Everyone who is trying to be uplifting about hair and hair types need to rephrase the way they acknowledge "good" hair. ALL hair is NOT good hair. Had fun with dye during the second big chop. This third (and last) big chop…never again. Dye is pretty but eats away my length with tangles and dryness
So I have type 4 hair and I love using the sugar scrub by Taraji P Henson. Her line is in target. I will say, I really only use the scrub once every 2 - 3 months or if I notice I have some horrible dandruff. It takes care of it right away, smells amazing, and my scalp is so clean afterwards.
I don't do tiktok, I could never grow my loose natural, long but I have locs now and my hair is thriving!! we need to uplift each other up, type 4 gang!
YESSSSSS when I leave my hair alone, it grows uncontrollably. My routine is to let my hair matte for about a month, then get braids and oil it for another month then I might get a style after I take the braids out 🌱
I struggle with keeping heat out of my hair because I’ve been doing it so long. I haven’t found products that work good on my hair when it’s natural. I have low porosity hair.
Idk if it’s dirty hair that grows or just untouched hair grows
It’s the latter. I think it’s due to the low or no manipulation.

Takoko means “tangle” but not in a polite way lol.
I just mentioned this scrub in another comment! Yes I love it. It does wonders after protective styles for me when I have a lot of build up
I don't do tiktok, I could never grow my loose natural, long but I have locs now and my hair is thriving!! we need to uplift each other up, type 4 gang!
Takoko is a word in a local dialect(Yoruba language)which means knotted, and kinky
@18:25 her hair was so beautiful!!!
