I read up about this song when it first came out. It was inspired when she heard the statistic that the world suicide rate was quite high and a disproportionate number of them are men (73%). She equates that level of pain with the toxic masculinity that doesn’t allow men to be allowed to feel sad or show real emotion or tears because it’s considered “weak”. Her song was meant to show how much relief and growth and lightness there can be in the allowing of those feelings and tears. * Her ability to encapsulate that into song is brilliant. The song sounds happy.

      EXACTLY!!!
That's why the very first line says " HOLD YOUR HANDS UP to your chest and tell me what you find..." not "P̶̶U̶̶L̶̶L̶̶ ̶̶ ̶̶Y̶̶O̶̶U̶̶R̶̶ ̶̶ ̶̶P̶̶A̶̶N̶̶T̶̶S̶ to your chest and tell me what you find...

I have recently discovered Aurora and have done research on many songs but not this one. Thank you so much for sharing this. She seems to be so aware of everyone’s pain and has more empathy than anyone on the planet. Like the lyrics in her song Warrior…. “I fall asleep in my own tears. I cry for the world, for everyone”

The beginning is actually "Hold your hands up to your chest and tell me what you find" as in letting ourselves feel our genuine emotion and to let it out! Thanks for doing this review, I am in love with Aurora! haha

It's hold "your hands up to your chest", in the beginning. Lovely words about what you thought you heard, but those aren't the correct lyrics. :) I do take her as still telling us to ground ourselves, though. Just this time its with ourselves rather than the earth.

Hold your hands up to your chest
And tell me what you find
Out of you, a sparrow comes
      And sees without its eyes
Don't forget who you are even though you are hurt
You are caught in a wire and soon it will burst
      You can cry
      Drinking your eyes
Do you miss the sadness when it's gone? (gone)
And you let the river run wild (gone)
And you let the river run wild
      I'm a shadow, I am cold
And now I seek for warmth
Stitch your skin onto my skin
      And we won't be alone
Don't forget who you are even though you're in need
Like a bird in the night, your emotions deserves to be freed
      You can cry
      Drinking your eyes
Do you miss the sadness when it's gone? (gone)
And you let the river run wild (gone)
And you let the river run wild
You can cry (you can cry)
      Drinking your eyes
I don't miss the sadness when it's gone (gone)
And the feeling of it makes me smile (gone)
As I let the river run wild
You can cry, you can cry, you can cry
To where the ocean is bigger
Become a part of the river
You can cry, you can cry, you can cry
Can you let the river run wild?
You can cry (you can cry, you can cry, you can cry)
      Drinking your eyes
Do you miss the sadness when it's gone? (gone)
(You can cry, you can cry, you can cry)
And you let the river run wild (gone)
And you let the river run wild
      You can cry
(You can cry, you can cry, you can cry)
      Drinking your eyes
(To where the ocean is bigger)
I don't miss the sadness when it's gone (gone)
And the feeling of it makes me smile (gone)
As I let the river run wild
      You can cry
      Drinking your eyes
Do you miss the sadness when it's gone?
And you let the river run wild
And you let the river run wild

Thanks for another great AURORA reaction Fil. Keep 'em coming! 💙
AURORA said this about the song: "It’s quite a happy song… it’s been a while since I’ve had a joyful song so it feels very nice. It was inspired by something quite sad as I looked at the suicide rates on this planet and apparently 73% of them were men and then I thought, why is that the case? Then I realized, obviously, it must be because of the feeling that you can’t talk about your emotions and show that you’re in pain because pain is often associated with weakness but you know, here in my world it’s not, so the song is inspired by something quite sad but it is also happy because crying can be such a positive experience, especially afterwards when you actually feel a bit lighter. It’s about that feeling to let off some steam as they say here in England."

Thank You again also for this reaction. You really get the lyrics if I may say so. As always with Aurora there are several layers of interpretation, and nature is everpresent in these. But aren't the green twigs emotions demanding attention? And trying to block them by just cutting them is futile? The river is of course Life flowing in an unstoppable manner, providing the nourishment for the feelings. When running over the field the emotional experiences accumulate in a very beautiful way (the red leafs), and when we die we ARE the memory of our emotions. And, is it possible to interpret the final image anything else than as a cyclic return to the womb? :-) You know, this can just be my life experience applied to this song, but I think that is what it is for most people. Open for your own interpretation! What a true poet she is to invigorate this for almost everyone. On different levels and topics ... and yes, by the way: She is of course also unsurpassed in singing :-)

I initially saw the scissors as psych meds and the vine as some mental variety of crazy and dropping the scissors was figuring it out outside of medicine. I've been tortured by not being given my benzo Rx for anxiety, ADHD, and PTSD and pretty much have to just take deep breaths to get m freaking out emotionally or physically. I couldn't imagine for a patient who hears and sees delusions and having to learn to function thru it. It's crazy how we all find different meaning in the same thing. I want through the eyes of a child played at my funeral🤘🏻no one should ever stop asking questions and speaking up. I sometimes feel alienated by living an honest, speak up kinda life, but I sleep good when I want to and I know someone has to be the change they want to see in their village. Take some for the future team 😜

Jey again. I love you interpretation and i wouldn't be surprise if our Queen loved it too. She has a more simplier explanation of the text. At one point she saw the high rate of suicide in men with the high social pressure does not express their feelings and therefore does not have the strength to live with it ... Approximately. Of course, that summary is very close to yours. As I said before, I really like your obvious "love" for her. I promise we are many who do that. Peace and several hugs man.

In light of what you just about this song - is it the right thing to start to rate a song? To pass judgment on it?
Does that feel right? Just a honest question from an old lad who decided a long time that rating things or people and especially art probably isn't a very wise thing to do .
