She doesn't write about herself. She always says the music is bigger than her. She have made a lot of songs and realised them many years after because she is realising them when she thinks the world needs it the most.
Aurora is the most authentic person I think you will see in the music industry. She writes all of her songs mostly all alone. She produces them on her own terms and make her musicvideos too. Aurora herself is art. She is also very strict when it comes to her band and the people she works with she said, "I need people that don't look at the notes while playing."
When she writes music, she has something to say. It has become more "political" she sings about the right to love, racism and the most important to her is mother earth as she call the world. She was mostly in the forest when she was a child all the time, alone, and she still loves it.. Her parents used a big cow bell to call her in to dinner. If you see cop26 youwill understand it.
When she was little she didn't like to be with a lot of people and she only got social media because she became an artist. She dont care about fame and has a totally other view on success than others. Us from Norway is obviously so proud of her and we think its fun thats so many can see her talent and help others to feel.she iis having a norwegian tour and people from 48 countries are coming to see her.
She is just pure and so authentic. I think you will love her singing live. ❤

When choosing next song of hers, I would recommend to choose any of her songs in this priority: live > studio recording > music video. She does not make bad songs, nor mediocre. It is hard to choose a favourite of hers, because they are all perfect. And she has a ton of (exquisite) covers and beautiful unreleased songs. Well, choose your way, young padawan.

*Eleven. 11. She was so young, she didn't even know what nitpicking meant back then ( ua-cam.com/video/uoYgReFWq2c/v-deo.html ).

@@RunarNyrud It's explained in her Wikipedia biography: "When a close friend of her family died on Christmas Eve, 11-year-old Aurora had to witness everyone dejected at the funeral service." And she wrote "Runaway" at 11...
There is several Aurora songs related to loss of relatives: this one ; Why Did You Have to Go a Place, that she sung on the funerals of a friend from the sign language course she attended because of the dysphemia she developped after the first loss ; Little Boy in the Grass, that she wrote in memory of a friend who got killed in the Utøya massacre in 2011 ; and she participed in a singing performance for a little girl's funerals, Sofia.

Aurora Aksnes, 27 from Norway. Singer-songwriter, Producer, Musician and Dancer. She started forming melodies at age 6 with the words coming around age 9. She wrote Runaway at age 11. She started ballet lessons when she was 6 and progressed into contemporary dance until age 16. The video was shot in nature where Aurora spent a lot of time as a kid, some shots overlooking the water are from her parents house. Aurora has been touring the world playing concerts and festivals since she was 17 or so. She has lots of music videos, live concerts, interviews and documentaries here on UA-cam. She shines when she is playing live. There are many videos that many commenters might recommend. One of my favorite live performances is Aurora live at COP26. Great reaction and some great points that you got from the video. Looking forward to more of Aurora. Thanks.

One of the best analyses I've seen of the lyrics of this song and I've seen hundreds. You're almost the only one who immediately got it 😄 Now I think you should actually stay with this song and check out her performing it at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert. You mentioned poetry in motion... Just wait until you see her live. It feels as if she's not there, but rather becomes the song and is channeling something from another dimension. She's rather unique in that aspect. You can even see her pop back in after song.

Facts about the Runaway Music Video:
It was shot (as far as we know) during January 31 to February 2, 2015. She was 18 at this time. She wrote Runaway at the age of 11-12 and finalized it at the age of 14 (for a school project, as she mentioned in an interview).
The parts, where she wears a 'furry' top (it's actually sheep wool) are shot at the west coast of the Drange peninsula, less than a mile away from her parents house.
The parts in the forest were shot in the forest where she played as a kid close to her parents house.
The parts, in which she wears a thin white cardigan and with some trees in the near background and the island of Lysøya in the background, are shot actually in the backyard of her parents house in Drange (Norway).

Aurora is amazing, she started writing words first, to help her deal with her emotions, the music came a little later. She has many songs dealing with many different emotions, thought provoking, melancholy, hauntingly beautiful. She is a prolific songwriter as well as a fantastic singer. She has a huge discography of her original work for you to explore, she is absolutely the BEST MULTI talented ARTist, EVER, lol, can you tell she is my favorite artist. Top all that off with the fact that she is authentic, unique and wonderfully weird, her fan base is called Warriors and Weirdos, warrior because she wants to remind everyone to be a warrior, many of the most (vulnerable lacking a better word) are the strongest because they keep going even when it is a emotional struggle for them everyday. Side note, also, rain can be quite cleansing. Thanks for a great reaction.

Good on ya guy! You got it. As a little girl she spent a lot of time in that forest with the animals day and night and has always been special. She was terrified of performing at first but wanted to share her thoughts and feelings. You can see that at the end of Runaway, Nobel Peace Prize concert. Contrast this with the Cure For Me video. One of her most upbeat songs but as always with her with a serious message. It’s a protest against conversion therapy practiced in some countries to “cure” homosexuality. She’s bisexual and regardless of what anyone thinks of that you have to respect her courage. I’m hetero and I do. For a deeper insight into her watch Heathens at Rough Trade East, London. She dedicates the song to “the Mother who takes care of the people who aren’t welcome in heaven.” Like me.😊

Very cool reaction and analysis! She doesn't often go in depth to explain her lyrics, preferring listeners interpret them in their own way, but she did do a video for Genius on UA-cam, where she explains the lyrics to this song, and a great many of your interpretations are spot on! Not a bad song from an 11-year-old (when she wrote this), huh?
She has much better music videos than this, but a big part of the popularity is that it went viral on TikTok, as you surmised. I actually prefer the 2015 Nobel Peace Prize concert version. Aurora is at her best live, and that is an amazing performance, though she was only 19 at the time. now you got so many praises to her music and person, your list must be huge but what do you think about all the comments? and if the list isn't closed: add her 'soulless creatures' live with the bergen symphonic orchestra. or even start with a little documentary, like 'into the light'.

  • @thehonestcritic6577

I must agree with previous comments Aurora does not write about herself , she writes about what she see's in the world and other people and their struggles . her influences being Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen , Enya , Ane Brun and many more , basically the stuff her parents listened to. Many of her songs are sad and give the impression of a sad upbringing when infact she describes her life growing up as wonderful and free although she preferred to be alone in the forest with her thoughts at times. She wrote this song aged 11 and wrote melodies in her head which she later put lyrics to 5 years later , one example being the song Lucky. She is a very Empathic person , a joy to watch live (4 times for me) and very funny in interviews.

Go there you will never be disappointed, but try to listen to her live versions, like her Nidarosdomen concert, or her Vevo sessions, or her KEXP concert ("Gentle earthquake" is magical, "All is soft inside" so powerful..) Welcome to the Giant Rabbit hole my friend :D :D

Take notes that she write this song at the age of 9 or 11 i forgot, i think she wrote this when she had a fight with her family (parents or siblings) that makes her feel she doesn't belong there so she want to just runaway from there. I think most children's had that moment in their life at least once 😅
"I kept running for a soft place to fall", running to her room and crying in bed after fight

I see there are many comments from my tribe of Warriors and Weirdos and I am sure they have told you everything I would and as a person who is hearing Aurora for the first time I usually recommend my favorites, but really after being a fan for a few years now that list is too long. So, I thought I would just respond to your interpretation of the song regarding showing emotion. If you want to explore more of that and Aurora’s view on that topic - you might want to watch The River next ua-cam.com/video/P7lE-G1oC34/v-deo.html. Aurora was inspired to write the song after she realized that 73% of the suicide rates were men. She realized it must be because of the feeling that they can't talk about their emotions and show pain because pain is often associated with weakness but it's not and that crying can be such a positive experience, especially afterwards when you actually feel a bit lighter.

i lost my youngest daughter when she was 17 suddenly in her sleep, she wasn't ill we never had an answer.. i stayed strong to support my family, i tried to lock away the pain, i was scared if i cried i would never stop. tbh i have no idea who i am now. not a day goes by without missing her. but i am stronger, i have had to be, my husband of thirty years had an affair with his brothers wife, so i am now living on my own with my 2 furry best friends and i am happy. sorry probaby too much info
