I believe that’s just a sort of placeholder or representation of one of Draenor’s moons, honestly. Still interesting how they used Azeroth’s appearance for it, though

I assume it was an illusion (or maybe even a portal -- if only for light) conjured by Illidan so he could look at his home planet. Azeroth and Draenor are not actually closer than the Earth and its moon.

For me back then as a 12/13 y/o Nagrand was a wonder on its own.
It was so atmospheric to level in that zone with that quiet music, the green landscape and damn. Nostalgic. Especially at night

Outlands to this day remains of one of the best worlds blizzard has ever made.

I think it's great! Blade's Edge personally irks me because of all the different biomes/colors on the map, but other than that the zone environments for me are just spectacular :)
@@Jediwarlock Lorewise from the biome stuff it can be very confessing and bit outdated due to Draenor being a thing with Gorgrond and Frostfire ridge. I think they didn't know at the time.
@@HawkknightXC88 Though much of the lore surround Draenor, Outland, and its inhabitants was up in the air for several years, it was all pretty much ironed out with TBC itself. Gorgrond and Frostfire ridge were conceptualized much later and are explained in lore as having collided to create the Blade's Edge Mountains. Pre-shattering Netherstorm unfortunately was cut during the development of WoD.
All other locations are reasonably explained within the lore. I'd say most interesting is the Spires of Arak/Terrokar and the Arakkoa/Outcasts.
Funny enough, as interesting as all the expansions' worlds are, nothing beats the OG vanilla map.

If you dare to venture inside Coilfang Reservoir, you'll sooner or later journey into Underbog, which is the second dungeon of the zone. This dungeon is fairly standart, mobs, bosses loot. However, one boss always stood out to me. I suspect him of vicious atrocities and human hunting. I'm talking about none other than Swamplord Musel'ek.
So, why is he so interesting? Well, for starters, let's examine what we know about him. He is a Murkblood Leader, we know that if we do some Nagrand quests. During the quest "Murkblood Corrupters" Elementalist Morgh says the following: "Murkblood are capturing and torturing the spirits of air! Murkblood are my kin: A tribe of the Broken who serve the vile Musel'ek, beast lord of Coilfang." which blatantly states that he holds an authority over the tribe. Another quest, "Ortor My Old Friend..." further supports this and also reveals that he has second in command. the giver of this quest Arechron has this quote: "These invasion plans were written by someone I once knew. Ortor of Murkblood, once a noble Broken, versed in the way of the elements, now a muck addled yes-man of Musel'ek the bog lord." Also Underbog is arguably the place that is occupied with Murkblood tribe the most, so it would make sense for a leader to stay close to his tribe... And yet we see Musel'Ek hanging around away from them, he's camping and is surrounded by animals not far from the Ghaz'an shrine. Some people speculate that he's exiled or perhaps distanted himself from his tribe voluntarily, but I don't believe that's the case. Not only the quests state that he's running some operations in Nagrand (or at least his second in command does), but he's also not that far from his tribe, the shrine where they resign is a few steps away from him. Is he on some solo mission then?
In order to answer that question let's briefly return to the title given to him by Morgh - "beast lord". Musel'ek is a hunter, but what does "beast lord" means? Veterans of Warcraft III might remember a hero called Beastmaster - a hunter that specializes on taiming multiple animals under his command. There are a couple of characters that hold the title "Beastmaster" in WoW, the most famous of which is Rexxar and there's a very loose connection between him and Musel'ek that you might have missed. Minus the wolfhead, Musel'ek wears the exact same clothes that Rexxar did in Vanila WoW, it's identical. And while it is a very poor argument to prove that Musel'ek is a Beastmaster, I can give another one that is perhaps more convincing - he is surrounded by the animals that are not hostile to him. Rays and bugs seem to ignore a rather easy target, while a nearby druid called Earthbinder Rayge has to hide in order to preserve his life. (Side note: If Musel'ek is indeed a Beastmaster, than perhaps he is a mastermind behind taming Ghaz'an and prossibly The Black Stalker.)
So we have concluded that Musel'ek is a leader of Murkblood and a Beastmaster. So what? What about his mission? Well, that's where things get interesting. After talking to Earthbinder Rayge we learn that he and his companion Windcaller Claw were jumped by Musel'ek. Claw has been tamed by him and remains his pet until we either kill him or save him. One might wonder how often does he jump druids like that. Let's examine his outfit again: aside from the belt harness all of his clothes are made out of pelts. what's more interesting is that his boots appear to be made out of bear claws. For those who are unaware - bears are not native to Outland, they are exclusive to Azeroth, at least in Classic Era lore. But let's assume that those are not bear claws, after all it's not clear that he did kill a bear. There's Blade's Edge Mountains nearby, he could have killed a lynx there...Well he also has weapons on his person, and while his bow is nothing to talk about, his secondary weapon, bear claws, gives a difinitive answer to whenever he killed a bear before or not. And I speculate that he had a few encounters with Druids already. Remember a quest "Lost in Action"? Cenarion Expedition has a lot of members and a lot of them venture into Coilfang Reservoir, some of them didn't make it back. And while how they died is up to speculation, based on the information above I think Swamplord Musel'ek is on a solo mission, and a vile one at that - hunting down the druids. It makes sense if you think about it - Musel'ek is a great if not a perfect druid hunter. He is a master of taming wild life, so he can not only use Underbog fauna to his advantage, but bend will of the druids in their animal forms to later aid him. And again, ased on his armor I speculate that he has been successful at it and fashioned himself with pelts and claws of his prey.
There's a couple more things of note that give light to Musel'ek character. While there's not a lot of those, they do allow you to paint a portrait of his personality. There's only one description of his persona is stated by Morgh calling hm "vile", but that's a third party judgement. Let's see what he can say for himself. He has quotes, like most of the dungeon bosses and again, while they leave a lot to be desired, they are of some value to us. He remembers Draenei language, one of his his quotes is a chilling pronounsation of the word "Heh heh...krypta." after he kills a player. However that's the only quote of his where he shows some kind of emotion. His other quotes are pretty much the same: "We fight to the death!" "I will end this quickly..." "It is finished." sound either ferocious or somewhat dry. Even his death quote "Well...done." fells like nothing more than a statement. He feels no remorse for his actions, nor is he afraid of his own death. He just congratulates his killers before passing away, which leads me to believe that he's somewhat of a psychopath. His range of expressions is very limited, not to mention the implications made by his attire and secondary weapons, so I guess Morgh was very accurate with his description. Also, although Adventure Guide was introduced only in retail, it's text on Swamplord Musel'ek does somewhat supports my theory: "To be one of the Broken is to be an outcast. This truth weighs heavy on Swamplord Musel'ek. Although he is a member of the Murkblood Broken, he prefers to roam the caverns beneath Zangarmarsh alone. During one of these recent wanderings, he used his mastery over beasts to enthrall Windcaller Claw, a druid who had been exploring the area in the form of a ferocious bear. Musel'ek has forced Claw to act as a loyal companion who will not judge him for the twisted being he has become."
So...here it is. I wanted to share this theory somewhere and felt like this comment section would be a good place :D I thank whoever read through this whole thing and if you're a druid main and want to run BC dungeons again - be wary f your surrounding. You might end up being MUsel'ek's next loincloth :P

Naga drained the water for Vashj (explaining WoD Zangarmarsh's full valleys of water). Achindoun's history (it used to be so pretty). Etc. Just... makes WoD make a TON more sense.

It's a good question! I think in the official canon Medivh opened the magical portal and then the Orcs came through and stabilized it with the stone frame/archway, but he could have used magic to make it really quickly as well! (Aegwynn used Medivh's staff to basically build Karazhan from the ground up using magic, so anything is possible!)

Ive never before heard of hellfire peninsula being a more fel infused mirror of the blasted lands. While it sounds cool, it seems to be said for more dramatic effect than anything? Or is there some source to the claim? Not trying to shit on anything I love your videos. Keep up the hard work 😊
Haha, partially dramatic effect, but I think there's also some truth to it! Apart from looking physically similar, this is where a lot of the Legion's efforts are focused in retaking the Dark Portal to invade Azeroth (Throne of Kil'jaeden, the steps of the Dark Portal itself, Pools of Aggonar, etc.) and there's a lot of demonic energy here. This is also the heart of where the Fel Horde was formed after becoming tainted by demon blood (Hellfire Citadel), and the fire shooting out of the ground is anything but natural (could be a combination of fel influence and maybe disrupted elementals?). So the word "mirror" is more metaphorical rather than it being some sort of copy, but I just wanted to emphasize they are experiencing similar symptoms from demonic energies. :)
