    1. Please keep making videos like this. You are a must watch on UA-cam. For me you are up there with Reefbuilders and Tom Reefer. Your personality and style calms the soul. Personal videos like this go a long way for people who don't have friends in the hobby. Videos like this keep me motivated. Thank you.

    Tank is looking great! I think if you get a few more species of faster growing macro algae in there, itll help to outcompete the nuisance algae, especially now with the introduction of a lot of nutrients from all the inhabitants. Small trims regularly are best especially since you’re not dosing. If you were dosing to maintain nutrients, just adjust the amount after cutting. You could even trim the gracilaria up and place it elsewhere in the tank instead of removing it. My gorgs will sometimes close up and algae will grow on them and like a leather they’ll shed the outer layer and be happy as a clam again. Just keep them in good flow so it’s easier for them to shed. Definitely keep up on the cleaning of the sponge. If the syphon are blocked they can’t eat. I’ve trimmed shaving brush before and had success so hey give it a try (we can chat about that later). As for the red grape, maybe try another gyre on the opposite side running alternate flow. You’ll get a nice flow one way for a few seconds and then the other way. Not sure if that’s too much flow for the seahorses (chat with the seahorse guru). Over all loving the tank but yea that rock… very Falic 🤣

    • @MyFirstFishTank
      @MyFirstFishTank  2 роки тому +2

      Tyler, my macro guru! I'm always amazed at how much you know about this stuff. What fast growing macro do you recommend? Also good to know that the sponge cleaning is a good idea, I'm going to do it again today! And I'm going to think about that extra gyre. The seahorses seem to like the higher flow, I'm more worried about the sugar fine sand, but, as long as I keep them on opposite schedules, it should be fine! I never even noticed the penis like rock until I posted that picture!

    Is that shaving brush from Florida also? If your tank is at 72, it may be too cold. It grows in water off the Florida Keys that is typically shallow. Also it’s coralline, so it needs calcium.

  • @carlosbarba4753
    @carlosbarba4753 2 роки тому +1

    Just keep in mind that some macros are faster growers than others, halimeda sp. tend to be more of the slow growing side. From my experience with codium is that if you put it on a place where it gets continous flow, will trive very well and will look very beautifull, you could try to place some on the top of that pene looking rock or somewhere on the middle way to the top, I'm sure you it will grow diferentley and people will stop telling you the way your rock looks like. (In nature Codium tend to grow on rock with fast flow areas), about the algae on top of your algae keep watching, maybe is only matter of maturity of your tank, or it could be something that you are dosing is creating the issue, maybe reduce at a time some of the fertiliser and watch how does the tank behave.

    • @MyFirstFishTank
      @MyFirstFishTank  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah, I guess we should just call it the pene rock for now! I didn't realize codium would thrive in high flow, so I may need to do a trimming and move a piece.And food for thought on the algae growing on top of algae. Maybe it is too much of the chaeto grow, or maybe the tank just needs more time to settle in like you said. Thanks for taking the time to write out your thoughts, certainly appreciated!

    Matthew, I can’t find the video that has the majano wand that you used on the aptasia. So I guess I’ll put my question here. When I first started I made the mistake of putting some ugly brown palys in my tank. I didn’t know better at the time and they have grown all over the place in my 90 gallon cube. Will the majano wand kill palys also? I scrub them with a tooth brush every other week and they just grow back. To any beginners don’t put ugly brown palys or brown snowflake polyps in your tank. You will later regret it!

    • @MyFirstFishTank

      Absolutely. Most corals can probably grow under a freshwater light, given that there is enough par. The blues make the fluorescents pop, and there is also a lot of PAR in the blue range, but freshwater lights can also work great!
