Awesome, this helped a lot. I have a freelance project right now making a video for a curved screen. I was pulling my hair trying to figure out how to solve it. This makes it so easy
That's supper effective to learn for it! Great tutorial! One thing I wanna ask is a notion for 1.68*! Where can I get a hint of that figure? a proportion between width and height?
it was perfect tutroial for anomorphic, i followed it and done it exactly but stucked in the part 7:00 min , i am not able to rotate like that, can you plz help me
In that part you're supposed to rotate about the cursor. So you set the cursor to the necessary vertex and rotate about the cursor (can be done by setting the rotation pivot as 'cursor')
Hello! I'm working with a curved LED screen and I want to achieve a similar anamorphic effect. However the viewer will be closer to the screen, around 2 meters away. Thus, I put the camera's focal length at 80 or 100mm, at 2 meters away the camera covers barely half of my screen. The camera would have to be around 5-6 meters away from the screen which is not possible due to the restriction of the gallery space I'm working with. The focal length parameter that works best with having the camera 2 meters away from the screen is 30mm. Now I'm wondering if I'm going to achieve the anamorphic effect with those settings. Let me know what you think!
In a unique situation like that it's ok to vary the focal length as needed, as long as it fully covers the screen. But it's best to not keep the viewer point so close to the screen. Small focal length values might not give you the intended result.
Thanks for thr tutorial , but what is the reason to project the video on a plane and play it again ? Why not do it like this here at 5:08 ? Cant imagine how it will break the effect
Your end result needs to be a rectangular video that you can play on your billboard. Simply recording the virtual L-shape billboard in blender won't help. You'll have to export the rectangle aspect ratio video from blender and wrap it on your billboard.
Vegas sphere seems to be working in a different way than this, concept wise to render content on the screen. I'll see if I can figure that out to make a tutorial for it.
many thanks for your tutorial. however, the aspect ratio is the pain. the flat screen video on the billboard looks good, but the final render has the black vertical strip at the center. any idea to look into?
Is it necessary to make this aniamation with depth boxes? Can't we do them normaly with a flat resolution? Like making a UA-cam video but bigger dimensions?
i tried exactly same and i got little distortion in the middle, and your output also have that distortion while playing the video, can you plz help me how to solve that
3d effect on a flat screen could be achieved with rendering in a virtual square space with a decent amount of depth and a shallow perspective effect which enhances that depth. It depends on the content and how it's rendered

At 6:15 what I'm doing is making a duplicate of the screen, and applying the modifier on the original one. This is done so that when i open it flat the texture stays UVed to it. If the modifier is still in stack the UVs won't get applied and the texture won't stay on it.
CAN YOU TELL ME AN EASY WAY TO FROM WHICH I CAN MATCH THE ASPECT RATIO OF THE CAMERA TO EXACT AS THE PLANE (ON WHICH WE ARE PROJECTING THE RENDER ) SO IF LIKE I MADE AN BILLBOARD OF A DIFFERENT SCALE AND DIMENSIONS AND I MADE THE 3D ANIMATION IN IT AND RENDERED OUT IN PNG AND NOW PROJECTING ON THE SCREEN NOW TO USE THE ACTUAL RENDER ON A BILLBOARD I NEED TO RENDER OUT THE SCREEN WHICH WE UNFOLDED RIGHT SO I HAVE TO MATCH THE CAMERA RESOLUTION WITH THE PLANE HOW CAN I MATCH IT AS THE PLANE AND THANKYOUU FOR THE GREAT GREAT VIDEO CAN YOU MAKE MORE MORE VIDEO FOR THE BILLBOARD IT'S ACTUALLY AMAZING NOT MANY PEOPLE HAVE DONE IT
This final render output is for the purpose of playing it on an actual curved billboard screen. If you want to overlay it on a video of a location, that's just camera tracking process and you can directly overlay 3d content on 2d video, instead of this 2d render output
Can you tell how the product of those videos go beyond the border of those screens, i mean if you see the nike video you will see that shoes shows in front of the border part of the bill board in which the screen is fitted. Hi CGi Jutsu! It's very nice tutorial. But I have one question now. How to adjust the second render on the curved screen? you didn`t explained. Adjusted final render distorted everytime T.T Can you help me?
Final render is supposed to look distorted in rectangular format, but once it's placed on the L screen, the curving of the render should make the illusion look correct.
Great Video:) on the distorted output video, which will be diplayed on the actual Screen, the lighting effects are missing they only reappear if I put the Key Value from the screen which i unfolded back to zero. Did I do something wrong or is this normal? Because the rendered Anmiation Video which is stretched to create the anamorphic effect is really dark and doesnt highlight the "room" which I created and the product i am trying to display. Would be awesome if someone could help.
I think your lighting seems dim because you didn't plug in the texture into the emission node. Along with diffuse, the same texture needs to be plugged into the emission value as well to give the brightness of a screen.
Hello! I would like to know. Will the process of creating a video be very different from what you described if the screen is hanging over the viewpoint. (the screen also has a curve, but one plane on the wall is vertical to the ceiling, and the second is located along the ceiling and reaches a point above the person) I ran into a problem with setting the camera. Should its settings be very elongated or in 360?
Is this screen too close to the viewer? The screen needs to be at a certain considerable distance from the observation point for it to work well. Also the screen orientation you're mentioning sounds like an inverted L rather than the billboard outside curves. I'm not sure about the illusion visuals in that.
@@CGiJutsu Yes that's right. Here is an animation example: drive.google.com/file/d/1tw1Cv0DI2scnNhGwLWSaLC9bGZ_i8UsP/view?usp=sharing This is just an example. I want to do something unusual) As far as I understand, the illusion will be present subject to a certain point of view.
I'm not experienced eith the hardware technicalities for setting up the screens, you'll have to do some research. These large billboards are usually made up of a bunch of small panels and you'll hsve to check the pricing of those.
i already did it but one of my clients give me the curve 32 *1024 but i dont know how to make a bevel fits 32*1024 as you know the bevel came with segments !
When modelling the screen, get the dimensions in metres or something similar, instead of pixels. Pixels will help with camera settings, but not screen modelling.
Thanks for the video, great stuff. Is there anyway we can take a regular flat video content and stretch/distort it into a curve screen to make this 3d effect?
Hi! I am not proficient enough in Blender to explain it in more technical terms. But is it possible to make such illusion with a flat screen? Like to create a frame that will help to seem like it’s the end of a screen (artificial depth) and then when object moves beyond it will work like illusion? Will it have the same effect?
@@CGiJutsuHi, its mean I can render the video without uv project to camera object? Or i must follow the step to create the camera with perfect angle and uv the screen to camera object just like in this video?
This kind of illusion has one viewing angle which is in the diagonal direction of the curved edge. Viewing this from far left or far right will break the illusion, as it gives you the view of only one of the two perpendicular screens.
Yes in 3dsmax ,I were tested this ones a while ago,and there is a format option in rendering setup where from you can choose and after the render at camera eye proportional aligned measurements by you ,the extracted render video is odd looking I believe ,but if you don't have the projection studio, then design the 3d model building and import the video in material editor, and apply that on the curved building cornered surface,I never reached that far but you can try or I will.
Is this the distorted looking video recorded from the flat screen? If yes then that's the final step and you can play it on your actual physical curved screen now.
Another Question:) If I have a sharp edge on my screen instead of a curved screen, what do I need to change in the process of creating the effect. I assume the 1.78 Aspect ratio doesnt fit anymore right?
1.78 aspect ratio doesn't affect the screen in any way. It is related to the camera. If your camera's aspect ratio is 16:9, then 16/9=1.78 is the value you enter in the modifier.
@@CGiJutsu You would probably in Maya just take the same first render output and use that as a texture with its UV set to projection and then have that project back onto the object from your render camera. Then basically bake the Texture Sequence on that screen object to unfolded UVs. If you unfold the UVs so they are a rectangular shape without stretching or squashing then you could just use that baked sequence in After effects to manipulate it to the size of the video template from the billboard company I assume. I haven;t done it but that is what makes sense to me.

Not sure but look for something similar to cameras and mesh UVs in relation.
Yeah, it's camera map modifier. Don't use the WSM version, it won't collapse later in the tutorial.
This work with flat screen too?
Can work but content has to be designed that way. You'll find examples online of how it can be done.
@@CGiJutsu hi hi, so what should i do after i have exported the video for the flattened screen?
Do i connect back as image texture?
Is this the distorted looking video recorded from the flat screen? If yes then that's the final step and you can play it on your actual physical curved screen now.
Another Question:)
If I have a sharp edge on my screen instead of a curved screen, what do I need to change in the process of creating the effect. I assume the 1.78 Aspect ratio doesnt fit anymore right?
1.78 aspect ratio doesn't affect the screen in any way. It is related to the camera. If your camera's aspect ratio is 16:9, then 16/9=1.78 is the value you enter in the modifier.
Nice. It's my dream to learn this tech. Can u teach us this skill in Maya. Kindly
I'm not well versed with Maya yet and may not be able to help with that.
