What "they're made for" is whatever you decide they're made for. For me, it's running them, but a lot of work has gone into that and if you don't want to run it then that's your business.
Great Result! The little Beatle came out great. And on grass in your Garden or on Sand at the beach there should nothing bad happen to the body. Enjoy your work, however it gives you the maximum joy, and if this means staring and dusting, so stare and dust, enjoy👍🍻
This shows how you don't have to go crazy with the hop ups etc. Just a few simple additions have really lifted this car. If it was mine I wouldn't run it after all the effort you put into making it look that good. Just enjoy looking at it! Great job Glenn!
Awesome Glenn, just a quick tip for future builders of the SS or hard shell bodies in particular when it comes to the painting.....after spending time masking and then spraying, including the black separating pin stripe lines on the roof(if you put them on like i did)....after finishing spraying the colour coats, make any slight adjustments needed, by scraping and touching up using a very fine brush dipped in the left over spray paint..rather than spraying again, and then flatten the whole body off using the very finest wet and dry you can find 2000 grit or higher 4000???....what you will end up with is a very dull body but very smooth and that also includes where you touched the paint up or made adjustments, once you've flattened off....and a dab of water helps if i remember right, thoroughly clean the body off of dust, dry cloth, damp cloth and let dry completely so its extremely clean, then and only then apply the stickers which will also be protected by the next step.....then get some clear coat laquer, and in perfectly dry and dust free conditions blast the body with a couple of coats of clear coat laquer allowing it to be touch dry between ooats............and boooom......you'll have a gleaming body where the colours look really deep but also shine like the sun like a million dollar sports car that had been wrapped and waxed with the finest products!!
When i did mine, after flattening off with wet and dry....i wondered if i had made a mistake because what appeared to be almost a perfect sparkling paint job...now seemed very dull indeed.....i took the advice i was given and carried on, after thoroughly cleaning it off of dust and finger prints i applied the stickers i had chose in the places i wanted them, gave it a final clean to remove finger prints off the stickers etc and then sprayed with clear coat.....i was amazed how the clear coat deepened the colout and the shine/gloss it gave to the body. :)
I must stress....in regard to the original colour coats, make sure you have done at least two, maybe three good coats of paint(but not to the point it runs or is too thick....and left to dry between each coat.....this is so when you use the wet and dry to flatten off the paint you wont be "scraping" through just one thin coat of paint. Use extremely high and very fine wet and dry so you get an ultra smooth surface without any scratches.....the finished flattened off body should look smooth but dull...before cleaning off of dust and applying stickers and then the clear coat laquer.
Looks spot on Glenn, l love everything about the Sand Scorcher! I always look at mine its such a classic looking thing! A must in everyone's collection!
Love it! My favorite Tamiya by far! Looks great Glenn. I understand how you feel about running it. I ran my first Sand Scorcher right after I build it...and it rolled over...😳🥴🤣
@@TAMIYALegends Yes, one mirror just snapped of and a lot of scratches. Never ran it again with a mint body. Got an old scuffed up Monster Beetle body for running. 👍😉
Superb Glenn👍 I did my scorcher metallic green with Matt black roof and racing white and it's the racing white which makes it pop! No you don't need to use them IMO😉 and the thing is with the scorcher it just loves to pirouette on its roof even with the ball diff!
Looks awesome! You need to get yourself some extra body kits and have a few more goes at it with some different colours..! 😉😁 Keep this one on the shelf, use the rough rider chassis as the runner with some different bodies on it. That is what I have now, 4 kits (two each still sealed), 10 body kits 5 of each, one shelf chassis with the 3 style srb bodies, one runner chassis with 3 bodies that I got used, so if they get damaged, just repair them. 😎😎
I watched the build from the beginning. Cool to hear you made up and are happy with it . Masking for paint is alot of work . Really enjoyed this one because I'm a vw enthusiast. I always loved those wheels on real life vws . That company did a really good good reproducing those . Really good video . Thanks
After seeing the pearl white you used I think it really sets it off and gives it a truly vintage look. I’m going to have to get some aluminum bumpers for my SRB cars too. Looks awesome.
I would of painted the inner white wheel bit in the blue body colour possibly ...excellent build as always Glenn and have a great weekend 😎👌🔥🔥🔥 if you do decide to take it out find a beach much safer and cooler for the photo shoots ect
It looks fantastic, and as I've just painted mine to box art, I can appreciate just how much time effort and, well, stress goes into it, it really is a challenge! You definitely need to take time to let each layer of paint harden before the next step. Tyre writing was tricky too! Well done, great video
Definitely one of tamiya's best classic's. Really not a lot of point in running it ..it will roll without a diff unless you are on sand...but she looks pukka.. I built one in the winter and I love it...I will not be parting with mine for sure...👍 Keep doing what you do. And good luck with the move ... Cheers Glenn.
Bloody blood lovely Glenn, I would actually say the paint job is perfect, and those hop-up alloy parts are unbelievable, I like how they are bling but it's not really in your face bling, it kinda looks like it should of come like that, I really love it. Totally with u on the not mad keen on running it yet,yes they are ment to b ran but I'd be exactly the same with that build, the devastation if something happened would be terrible 😢, great video Glenn and superb build 💯👌👍
Looks amazing, I think the cage should always have been like that. Those wheels and bumpers look great too, just reminds me how you used too feel the first time they roll over though. Some gentle running on a low grip surface, if you feel brave. I'd get another body, leave it unpainted and I've seen some stickers on ebay for the blue bits.
It looks absolutely awesome mate, it's one of the best looking RC cars of all time! And as for running it, do you really want to? If you don't. then don't, whatever you do do not bow down to pressure from other people just to please them. Personally I'd run it, but I'm not you, and I don't have one of these, so if your viewers don't like it then it's tough poop!! Awesome video as always, please keep 'em coming👍👍
Sensational build Glenn👌🏆 I'm with you on this one, way too nice & too much work to get it looking that good to risk a roll over mate, all of our Tamiya's are on the shelf pretty much plus I once they get a few metres away from me I can't see them and will crash anyway😂 The wheels look absolutely spot on mate👍🦘🇦🇺
I have the NIB rere kit stored up in the attick. Not sure when I will build this iconic Tamiya model...The driver could use some muttonchops and a few stickers on the helmet, I´d say.
I'm with you on the choice to run the car. I always build my cars with the intention to run them but, honestly, after I've invested countless hours trying to make them as close to perfect as I can, they almost never touch the ground. So they'll go onto the shelf and I'm on to the next project which, of course, will definitely be a runner (yeah, right). Anyway, another great build series, thanks for posting your videos Glenn.
And this thing drives surprisingly well considering its design and age...All in all, one of the best. You got to love her from end to end, tons of caracter. Yours looks the part indeed 🙂
That is awsome mate, seriously I could not run that car after spending all that time on it, Tamiya for me these days is about modelling and not about bashing, I now collect.. those wheels and cages really are the finishing touch and I hear what you say about that white paint, it does make it look old, love it 👍
That looks way way way way way way way better 😍 do not run it! Nope! Build another one for running? the added weight and the unprotected arms🤔 the white is perfect and I love the new bumper 😍 p.s. I hate the old bumper, real hate?
Nice vid...I really like the SandScorcher...great build my friend. In fact, just earlier tonight I was wrapping up my build of the very same car! I added all brushless electronics and lipo 2s battery. Very challenging to get all the modern electronics to fit. Can't wait to take it for a spin around the track.
I’m with you all the way on running vintage/ collectables. I have specific cars for driving and most sit there and look pretty 😂. The devastation of flipping/ crashing something you spent ages on 🤯
Awesome. I did have my sand scorcher up for sale due to moving house but now seeing that im going to order a set of them wheels to finish mine off and run it, already have the bumpers etc but them wheels really finish it off, nice work as always mate 👍🏻
I usually do two body sets one to run one to display That being said IDK if I’ll do a second body for mine still deciding unlike my Anniversary Porsche I’ve never driven a sand scorcher/ rough rider/ etc. I also picked up a set of same size front and rear alloy wheels for it but that builds still on the back burner my Optima Mid finally showed up & that’s the next build I am not only planning to run it I’m going to do at least one indoor carpet race with it just for 💩’s & 🤭 unlike the Sand Scorcher I have raced the OnRoad Touring Car version of the Optima Mid back in the day and have plenty of vintage hop-up hopefully they fit
Bruiser paint is simpler, but has so many parts that I'd say is up there with the sand scortcher in terms of complexity. Xr311 took me a long time to build too, lots of fiddly pieces
I understand about not wanting to run it. All that time spent making it look just the way you want it to and the risk of driving it around and ruining it can make it be just a display piece. I used to be a a shelf queen hater years ago but the more cars I get and spend the time on making them look good the more and more I am fine with just enjoying the building and collecting part. Running it just to make folks happy isn't worth it. If they want to see one run that bad they can spend a week building and painting their own!! It looks great and I love the slightly off white look, it does give it that old kit vibe!

But it kinda made the video live with a live chat feed 🤯🤷🏼♂️ I’ve probably lost a few comments to that. Oh well I won’t do that again lol 😂
Neat job on the tyre lettering Glenn. What pen did you use exactly for that? I restored an original one of these recently and I agree it's a special build. Slow as you like and crappy steering but it's just excellent despite all that.
@@TAMIYALegends Thanks Glenn. I had been using Gellyroll pens which goes on well but have zero resistance to ant wet or even damp. I'll try your way :)
I Love it totally awesome 😎 I have a very tatty Rough Rider that goes out every now and again as I don’t want to break it.i agree with you if you do run it I would do it on grass as the look amazing but handle not great. I found on grass it does a C lot less damage if you get carried away. You could get a second body . When you are in your new place then maybe you could improve the lighting.
Hi Glen, I bought my metal parts from RC4WD. I am not sure if they make those parts anymore. I wanted my car to look box art. I did not get the engine parts because it was not box art. Thoughts?
Hi, I'm looking to replace the wheels along with the the front and rear bumpers with alloy versions. Did you have to pay import taxes on your purchases? Cheers.
@@TAMIYALegends I did get a Subaru Brat, felt a little emotional after building the chassis .. not the most straightforward but a great build. @@TAMIYALegends Thanks Glenn. I had been using Gellyroll pens which goes on well but have zero resistance to ant wet or even damp. I'll try your way :)
Looks Awesome!!
Looks Great 😎👍🏻
Thanks Adam 😅👊🏻
Friggin awesome…
I Love it totally awesome 😎 I have a very tatty Rough Rider that goes out every now and again as I don’t want to break it.i agree with you if you do run it I would do it on grass as the look amazing but handle not great. I found on grass it does a C lot less damage if you get carried away. You could get a second body .
When you are in your new place then maybe you could improve the lighting.
Excellent thanks for watching my friend 😊👊🏻
such an iconic rc it doesnt have an actual dif.
Excuse me, what brand is this front bumper?
Hi Glen, I bought my metal parts from RC4WD. I am not sure if they make those parts anymore. I wanted my car to look box art. I did not get the engine parts because it was not box art. Thoughts?
Yeah I’m also going to paint up the engine and fit it, the extra level of detail is just perfect 😍
@@TAMIYALegends That should look great.
Hi, I'm looking to replace the wheels along with the the front and rear bumpers with alloy versions. Did you have to pay import taxes on your purchases?
Cheers.
I'm kinda tempted, but the price puts me off some....
Yeah they do seem to go up and down depending on the availability 🤕🤕🤕
@@TAMIYALegends I did get a Subaru Brat, felt a little emotional after building the chassis .. not the most straightforward but a great build. Maybe an SRB will be in the future, but have a *top secret* 2wd build I'd like to do first... Might email you some details to see if it's worth doing as you are the Guru!
