    I am a loco pilot working in SR.. working for long hours and having no provision for nature's call only is the major problem we are facing..I see little modifications which aids nothing for the safety of crew.. still no toilet or wash room inside cab, air conditioned cab either.. but railway spending more for cab camera and some led lightings. what's the purpose.!? I don't know..come on Engineers and Designers we need a crew friendly cab room for peaceful working..if we are working in a good ambience, safety also pursue👍👍..we are also humans just like you..please spend nation's wealth for providing basic amneties first.🙏🙏

      In new WAG9H is available toilet facility with Air conditioning which is modified version of WAG9 is in under process, due to its no space availability in WAG9 locomotive already its lengthy locomotive but CLW engineers are trying to bring but huge in length especially In cross tracks like C type And S types curves were this lengthy locomotive gonna be faces problem in curves so it's late in manufacture don't worry about it soon the New Version WAG9 & WAP7 locomotives will be on tracks...

      japane ne bullet pe pura 70 ya 80 degree angle pe design kiya hua hai aur woh bhi kab se 1960 ya kabhi se. woh chodo yaar, Aircon diya nahi kya, aur toilet kyun nahi diya, pilot kya track pe moote ga ?Waise LED laga diya aur kush ho gaye

    The engine needs 3 additional features. 1. Washroom 2. Air condition. 3. Coffee and tea maker. 4. Water dispenser.

    Big step towards modernization of Railways. Kudos. But a lot of scope for incremental improvements,
    1) Toilets for pilots,
    2) Water storage facility for drinking,
    3) Digital display of speed, rpm, motor conditions etc,
    4) cock pit can be made more ergonomical and aesthetic,
    5) Single glass view rather than partition in front of pilots,
    6) At least a air cooler for pilots to beat the heat.

      Nowadays, In every locomotive like WAP 5,WAP 7, WAG 9 & WAG 12 ,There is Roof mounted AC is present and also cabin heater .

    I saw a British documentary made in the fifties on Queen Elizabethan Express. The steam locomotive which was hauling the train had a washroom & a restroom for the drivers. I feel sad that we have deprived our loco drivers from this basic necessity. Secondly, we Indians just don't pay any attention to the fit & finish of our products. See the crude paint work and crude welding. We are still far away from world class quality.

    It’s gets incredibly hot inside the cabin during the summer months even more so due to the heat from the engine room...air conditioned cabin for Pilots must also be quickly considered and made available. Why are the Babus in their ivory castles not taking cognizance of this aspect too. Of course a vacuum cleaned toilet is also a must. Bear in mind that these 2 brave souls haul and safely move over 1000+ lives at such high speeds and therefore it’s important to also consider their well being. Hopefully there will be a “nayee soch”.

    I am a retired GM locomotive design engineer (EMD, USA) and feel CLW has a long ways to go. The interior design should be pilot friendly as the first priority, meaning airconditioned environment, rest space and toilet facility. These are not luxury features but essential conditions for safety and stress minimization. The interior overall can be upgraded to reflect modern design and pleasant surrounding.

    Japanese meghlov bullet train has 674 Maximum speed .
    Indian train has maximum 180 speed

      India is not a country for high speed trains especially with all the cattle roaming around everywhere. For high speeds, train tracks must be laid on bridges so that gets expensive.

    It's heartening to see the INDIAN RAILWAYS is changing FAST!! But BASIC facilities to the CREW MEMBERS should be looked into. Earlier crew members were deprived. Now days DESIGN change PRIORITY should be given so that they feel HOMELY STAY!! Such as bath, toilet freshers Coffee /Tea making etc. They are also a HUMAN BEINGS!!

      Actually this locomotive is developed by medha survo drive privet Ltd an Indian train technology co. Earlier CLW manufactured all its locomotives with propulsion equipment from ABB (Switzerland). But now they switched to company like BHEL and medha. You must noticed in this video that traction converters, auxiliary converters, traction motors , traction transforms are all developed by medha survo drive privet Ltd. To know more about medha you should watch " new medha corporate video " . To watch just search the headline on you tube. You will find what kind of job medha has done in propulsion technology. CLW is only responsible for body and bogie manufacturing. The driver desk also produced by medha. All the controls are supplied by medha. Yes toilet is lacking because of space constraints. Earlier wap 5s top speed was only 180 kmph( you can check wap5 cab ride videos on you tube). The new locomotive has a top speed of 240kmph and it is due to IGBT( insulated gate bipolar transistors ) propulsion equipment from medha survo drive privet Ltd.

      We Indians have a tendency to judge a book by its cover. We never examine anything before making a view. Propulsion system is the most critical part of any locomotives or train set. And very few companies around the world has mastered this technology. And medha survo drive privet Ltd and BHEL are among them. India is innovating every thing from nuclear submarine, rockets like gslv mk3, to cars and, train technology . But we have very little knowledge about it. And special mention that medha has developed propulsion system for 9000HP electric locomotives ( can be confirm from " new medha corporate video ").

      Original loco was designed in 1995 in Switzerland. At that time toilet feature was not considered important and they cant change tge design much as it could be dangerous for the stability of the loco

    LOL. Another jugaadu 'invention' that we Indians will be proud of and praise XYZ politicians, etc.
    The finishing is poor. Period. Honestly looks like they have done a very shoddy exterior work, be it the painting, the finishing.
    No washroom. Another huge negative.
    The funniest part about this is that it looks AERODYNAMIC, but can any engineer explain me how will it be able to use it's aerodynamic build? No AC in the loco, means that the windows need to remain open. Also any non AC coach will severely impact the aerodynamic effect. Add to that the gangways which protrude inside, making room for air resistance to act. Again a rough finishing on the front will degrade its performance due to air drag.
    I believe the conventional WAP-5 has a maximum rated speed of 225 kph and max MPS of 180 kph. It hauls Gatimaan at 160+ kph. So testing the loco at 180-190 would be more useful than making a jugaadu modification and claiming it can do a 200 kph, where in reality it will be just as good as a conventional WAP-5.

      We Indians always give our views without examine anything. The new locomotive is based on IGBT propulsion system. You must have noticed that the propulsion system like traction converters, auxiliary converters, traction motors, traction transforms ( complete propulsion set) has been developed by medha survo drive privet Ltd an Indian train technology company. Medha has largest R&D set up in train hardware domain outside any government organizations. To know more about medha you should watch " new medha corporate video " on you tube. Making a train is not all about beautiful looks or a toilet inside the cab but the most critical part is propulsion system. Earlier CLW manufactured all its locomotives with propulsion equipment from ABB (Switzerland) but now they switched to company like BHEL and medha survo drive privet Ltd . Earlier wap5 of ABB make has a top speed of only 180 kmph ( you can check wap5 cab ride videos on you tube) but due to IGBT ( insulated gate bipolar transistors) propulsion system from medha the top speed of the new locomotive is 240 kmph. Medha is also responsible for train-18's propulsion system . Medha has already developed propulsion system for 9000HP electric locomotives ( can be confirmed from " new medha corporate video ").     I don’t know much about the technical stuff inside but the external finish gives us an idea how behind we are in making things right. Look at the flat screws inside. None of the fixtures have the proper finish. Looks those button consoles. Looks so primitive. It’s time we wake up. These guys feel their jobs are safe so they can do whatever they can. It’s High time we change this

      Train 18 is most pathetic and shabbily done. We should import coaches and engines.... I travelled by train 18 how can we even compare this to modern trains..... Indian engineers don't know what finesse is and there must be huge corruption..... Funds missused, Either manufacturing should be privatised or India should import trains.

      @Dan TDM succeeded my ass. The train shouldn't be so flimsy. The front of train 18 was destroyed in just the first month of service. AWESOME QUALITY. Indian railways took 30 years to add a 45 degree inclination to the coaches, and are calling it an engineering marvel.

      Jab tak co-pilot nahi hoga tab tak koi fayada nahi hai toilet ka kyu ki control ko unattended nahi chod sakte even for 1 min. So first we will need to add one more pilot in each train that will result in extra cost per train which will again result in more ticket prices so if we are ready to pay extra government can do anything.

    I don't think that LED's are powerful enough to be visible under the bright sunlight when the engine is traveling minimum at a speed of 80 km/h.
    Note: I'm not an expert in all these but I just felt it might be the scenario.

    When the original WAP5 imported loco made its maiden run with NDLS HWH Rajdhani, I went to visit it at the Howrah stn. Then the cab appeared to be aesthetically designed. But now, with all add ons and makeshifts, that original beauty has gone and the inside looks crude and clumsy and more factory than a semi high speed engine.
    Also that engine was 6000 HP but this one is 5400 hp only. Why?

    yes very well said....Vishnu Madhavan ji....nothing much to talk about except for that aerodynamic design in the front.... I think loco pilot's basic amenities need to be taken care of....which would create morale and motivation and this would enable them to perform above their perceived capabilities in achieving a shared vision.....

    My god, when did bathroom jump into the luxury amenities section. Those overlooked features are basic human necessities. No washroom, no AC or any bit of feature for the benefit of the actual people going to drive the train. No wonder trains are late. Also my 5th standard science project had better fit and finish than those train components. Not to mention that there are tempred glasses that can withstand pretty much anything, what is the need of those iron guards over the windows if you can design it over with a better glass. Man we need to seriously hire some talent in the railways.

    Total nonsense. They have just altered the gear ratios for additional speed. Rest is all the same. 45 degrees incline results in a weird and an ugly looking locomotive. Why not give drivers toilets and air-conditioning. The wap5 and wap7 designs came equipped with air-conditioning. Our great design team gave a recommendation to ABB to take out the air-conditioning. What kind of a mentality is this?

    For all those people who complain the 45° inclination of the engine, Do you really want us to copy Shinkensan Bullet train. Wap,Wag series looks might be outdated but still it looks original and not copied. On a better note they can paint the engines like an "Anaconda" as well the rakes matching the engine. Readvertise it as "Anaconda Express". It's better to have your own styling even if it is outdated then copy someone/country's models.

    Those who are commenting about quality of this locomotive. It's actually for poor people, government idea is to make middle and upperclass increase "airplane travel" and bottom of the bottom poor will travel in okay quality trains. So it will suit the purpose completely.

    It's a very good effort by Chittaranjan Locomotive Works Team Engineers. Congratulations to you all. Indian Railways is the longest rail tracks in the World. But I would like to suggest one difficency here. You are not providing Toilets (wash Rooms) to the staff in the Engine cabin. All compartments were provided Wash Rooms. Why this was neglected by the Railway Officials. It's very difficult to the Staff to control some times. Most of the stations the train will stop only 2 minits. This facility has to be provided immediately. Now you can not change the Engine Design. At least in the Guard room behind Engine this has to be provided. I was surprised ,why this was not bring into the notice of the Railway. Higher officials by the so called Railway Unions. I request through this to Railway Authorities to look into this with out delay. Thank you .

      Let me tell you a secret.No good engineer in India works in railways with a pathetic salary of 35k. On top of that there is 50 % reservation.Most of the good engineers from IIT and NIT work in private sector.

    This feature which I already thought to implement in Indian railways. Good. It should have GPS facility with monitor to know the complete map and to know the train running ahead and back. GPS control breaking system. So no collision be happen to reduce accident. Also GPS based track monitoring system to check any blocking object to avoid accident. Plus GPS based communication between loco pilot and station master.

    The biggest achievement after making a knock-off of the original ABB engine, LED lights - My God I'm amazed..... Even beautiful is the quality of the finish....... Smudged & scratched paint work. Can't stop thinking about the wonderful LED lights, it's on both sides like the engineer pointed out towards the end. Press Green button to go and Red to stop. Fantastic!

    Don't criticize on not having it. But promote on having it next time. Praise for what we have. They are improving for 100s of passengers in the train. It is expected that they must be working on another designs that improves cabin for crew. But when amenities increases you then talk about price hike. Think what is more important a balanced improvement or extreme improvement. Though I was thinking earlier engine is solid pack of train with crew space in front. I am enlightened.
