I did my first enduro race a couple of Months ago,, my #1 tip is just show up, and HAVE FUN, you will get pass and you will crash (hopefully nothing big),, just ride like its any other day, I went to that race with that mind set (off course I crash and got passed on every stage haha) and had a blast,, also made a couple of riding friends.
I know this video has been out for a while, but can take a moment to appreciate how good the audio in the shed is and how INSANE the light is in there... I can hear how dense the wood is... sounds great even on crappy laptop speakers. Keep it up!
Awesome accomplishment! Those were tough conditions! Such a fun race! Biggest tips: go full sloth mode on the climbs or even walk. Save your legs and energy for the down. Sounds obvious but when nervous a lot of people are inclined to pedal fast on the climb. Also pick the right wave to start in. Start too soon for your skill level and riders will be passing you or too slow and others will have to be passed which is difficult for all involved.
Great advice! It’s hard to know what wave to start in. Fortunately for me I was with a group of experienced racers who knew my skill level. (Thanks @vixenracingmtb !)
My No1 tip for racing is try to stay relaxed. If you treat it like a fun ride out with your mates instead of worrying how well you'll do it'll be a lot more enjoyable and you'll also find you'll actually ride better because you're relaxed and not putting any pressure on yourself. Well done by the way. 👍
What do you do when your afraid, I’ve been doing mtb for a year and am decent, but I find myself not hitting something that I want to do, but I’m just so afraid somethings going to go wrong.
@@uncle1217 Learn how and what to do in your head, practice it over and over again in your head. Physically look at it from all possible angles and learn any possible hazards. Once you've got all that fixed in your head you've got to just go for it without any hesitation and without thinking too much about it, if that makes sense. Many times you'll finally do it and think to yourself "well that wasn't too bad at all."
Fun! I just had a revelation: the first enduro race is like the first trip to the bike park. It can be intimidating but start off easy and work up to "full send" once you're more familiar and confident. Just enjoy the scene and don't worry about being competitive. And yeah, PRERIDE! Racing blind is terrifying!
Good job. A person just has to pull the trigger at some point. You were ready and you did :). Advice about extra gloves is spot on. In cold wet conditions it’s paramount to keep your hands warm in order to ride to your potential - especially on steeper gnarly sections.
I did a race a fiew years back and I had a dirt jump style hardtail but the race was an xc race. So one tip is (if you can) have the right bike for the race and conserve your energy.
Excellent work miss Beth! My first race, I beat all the people that DNF'd, so middle of the pack is STELLAR. I would say, if you can pre-ride a 2 or 3 days before, and have a rest day before the race, you'll be better off. Though shuttling the day before isn't bad, but DON'T pedal the whole thing the day before. I made that mistake once and was still gassed the next day.
Oh man, I can’t imagine pedaling the whole thing two days in row 😅 🤣 It’s a tricky balance, getting in enough pre-riding and enough rest. Thanks! 🍻 - Beth
I've done my first 2 MTB races this year, the first one I pre-rode and I came in 11 out of 16 and the second one, I didn't pre-ride and I came in 16 out of 18. Pre-riding really helps, especially for first time riders. I find the racing fun, but it's something I just like to do every once in a while, as I'm not that competitive. It's just a really fun time! Great video!
That’s awesome! I’m hoping to do a few next year too. It is such a fun time! It’s a amazing what a difference the pre-ride makes. You did great, nice work! 🤘🏼 - Beth
Great job on the race and the video, Beth! That was fun to watch. Loved the tips, especially the glove one. My tips are to ride within your limits when it's spicy (it is not fast to crash!) and pedal like crazy on the pedally bits.
Tip for new racers, HAVE FUN second, pace yourself. Go hard in sections that you are best at wether it be downhill climbing or techy and always ride within your limits and ride safe.
Super awesome job! Saw all the dudes in the comments so wanted to represent the gals. Hoping to maybe do my first race next year. You made it seem less it intimidating! Thanks!

does that thing at the tree detect your time? seems like a flawed system as will depend on how fast you put your hand against it, why not have a system that has a sensor at the fork, and at the gate and finish like in downhill? as soon as you cross finish line it's detected.
I've done downhill races never a enduro I guess us older guys just don't have a class for us. Atleast where I live plus I wish my wife could find it to race
I noticed you wear glasses. Do you ride with contacts or prescription glasses/goggles? If contacts, have you had any problem with them coming out at higher speeds?
I usually ride with contacts, I’ve never had a problem with them coming out at high speed but I don’t find them comfortable to wear for long days. I’m excited to try some prescription eyewear though, SportRx is sending me some google inserts. I’ll post some feedback on Instagram after I’ve had a chance to try them out. Https://bit.ly/Sport-Rx
If you didn't have any spills, in those conditions, with the way you sent it, your placement is irrelevant. If you did eat it the ten times I expected you to, I would still thumb this up. That was kick butt, Mama Bear!
Enjoyed the vid! I just finished my first full season of Sport class enduro (ua-cam.com/channels/nW0Z1WtDxlvWOSRktoqYuw.html?view_as=subscriber )land I learned what I call the 3Ps. P1: Pre-ride. Most of the races I did I had never ridden, the ones I did not pre-ride were a disaster, riding a bit tired the next day was a small loss compared to racing blind. P2: Pacing. I came from XC and my biggest problem at first was not taking a bit of recovery time to just sit down for a bit. Enduro days are much longer than XC days (most of em) you need to balance time / energy / Distance over the course of a day. P3: Pressure (this is a big one). Remember its just bike racing! Have fun, if you have to walk a feature don't stress its not a big deal. Crashing happens too, as long as you can continue on just do that... continue on! Even if you finish dead last you still beat every other person who never strapped on a number plate. "Better to be a racer for a second than a spectator for life"
Ending was the best part. Lol. 👍

I've done downhill races never a enduro I guess us older guys just don't have a class for us. Atleast where I live plus I wish my wife could find it to race
my number one tip for a new racer?
Stay calm and have fun, after all isn't that what mountain biking is all about?
Love it! That’s exactly what I needed to hear that day 👌 - Beth
Good
Niiiice!

Find a local race series and just have fun
Great advice! I had so much fun once I started the race and realized I was just riding bikes with friends. - Beth
My tip is don't be a hero. Take it easy and enjoy yourself a little
That’s a great tip! It’s so much fun if you don’t take it too seriously! - Beth
Where this place?
Revelstoke, BC 🇨🇦
dont rush, enjoy the ride, enjoy the company and dont cut the turns lol
Lol! Great tips 👌. It’s all about having fun! - Beth
If you didn't have any spills, in those conditions, with the way you sent it, your placement is irrelevant. If you did eat it the ten times I expected you to, I would still thumb this up.
That was kick butt, Mama Bear!
🥰 thank you! - Beth
Haha to pedally, I just wanna go down. That's the truth.
Get it👍👍👍
Enjoyed the vid!
Love the 3 P’s! Perfect way to break it down 🙌 - Beth
#tip look at where you WANT to go, not what you don't want to hit! ;-)
Kids, please don't forget to pre-ride, re-ride, and than free ride ;)
😂
number 1 tip "Just don't die!"
Solid advice 😂 - Beth
Tip: don't ride a state championship road race in the dead of summer after a night of drinking at your friend's wedding.
