This is the simplest DIY tutorial that I've seen on this topic! Thank you. I especially like the use of simple household objects instead of having to buy specialized tools.
Hey guys I’ve been dealing with an overheating issue on my 2012 JKU Rubicon. I replaced the thermostat twice with aftermarket units. because Mopar units have been on back order for a year, and it would still run too hot climbing a hill or when accelerating. What I found is, the aftermarket units are not only junk but are assembled with the spring upside down! I noticed the new one in this video has the spring upside down also! Another thing with most aftermarket units is the struts the spring retainer is mounted on are too short! This reduces the amount the thermostat can open! I have however found an aftermarket on Amazon that is not junk, has the taller struts like the OEM, and is made with an aluminum housing! It’s sold under the name MILIPARTS. I hope this helps. Jimmy
My wife has a 2017 jeep wrangler unlimited Willy’s edition. She has the same code P0128. But the thermostat is opening and operating correctly. I think it’s the coolant temperature sensor
I just purchased my first Jeep Wrangler and naturally a week later the check engine light came on I read the code with a code reader that I had borrowed, it was the same cold as you are flashing there. But mine said the thermostat sensor. My question is was yours running very cool when the light came on? Mine seem to be running at the proper temperature is one of the reasons I think it maybe my sensor that is faulty. At the time it was about 18 degrees outside and we were running into a 30 mile an hour headwind. I haven't checked it since I cleared it, to see if it would come on again
I’ve had so many problems with this thermostat that eventually after about the fourth one and bleeding system so many times. My brother-in-law suggested taking the thermostat out of the housing which I did and the jeep stayed at about 185 the whole ride home and 80 miles an hour these thermostats on these things suck, and this is all after I’ve replaced a radiator water pump serpentine belt my fan went out, replace my fan, new upper and bottom hose for radiator new thermostat and new temperature sensor. The only thing I haven’t replaced but I did buy with the system. What is the heater core. Placed a vacuum on the system and pressure did not drop, indicating no leaks in the system. Any thoughts?

I’ve watched several Jeep thermostat replacement videos and this by far is the best! Thank you.
The best video I've viewed on this fix. Thank you so much. I have zero mechanical skills but I will do this one myself.
Well done. Appreciate you putting in the effort to show the details. Would have liked to see you show the coolant temp sensor and wires
Great Video. Funny ours came on and went off, I also was hoping it fixed itself LOL.
Thanks for the video brother
Why did you not bleed the air out by opening the valve? Do we not need to do that?

Was it only the sensor?
Thanks for the walk through.
