Maybe they could add Mercenaries as temporary units that only last a few waves, but are massively under costed and available to every player with no randomization, with timers and cooldowns just like melee to keep the swings from being too early
Or make them a one life low cost purchase (on a timer) that drop into your spawn area immediately? I could see that being used early on to gain mid control, with the trade off that they only have one life per purchase. You wouldn’t want to overuse them because they don’t join your army permanently.
I do worry adding more complexity will make it harder to gain new players. It's already complex, anything more will feel alienating for a lot of people. Something I'd suggest is something random happening in the middle to either add a catch-up mechanic or just something random that your army has to kill. (Making it give gold or a powerup would make the game mode more snowbally so idk) This is an issue when listening to community players rather than the creator doing something themselves though is we do not know the design idea behind it and we do not know the consequences anything will have to the vision of the game
@2:41 - Melee hero with huntresses can actually be good if you position well and invest in it. I did Dreadlord + mass hunts and dominated my lane in a game earlier, and Crypt lord mass hunts another. Melee hero can tank for pierce damage and/or do additional AoE, and if you invest in a belt or two and maybe ring early, you don't really lose any tempo, since the stats from belt are basically equivalent to another unit, but attached to the hero so they don't die and have better armor.
Melee hero works fine with huntress, you just have to put it further at the back. In fact I think it works very well with huntress, because huntress beats all other t1 melee (when massed, and t2 for more bounce). Which means the melee hero is super tanky due to 50% damage taken from pierce/magic.
I get that some people like it, but I can't stand fan-made races. One of the best things about the current setup is that everything I know from TFT is generally transferrable. Some stats have changed and whatnot, but the behaviours and upgrades are all there. When they just start doing what is essentially making up races, units, heroes, the quality falls off a bit and it becomes just another weird fan thing.
Direct strike videos made me addicted. I hope they add new content like new units or new upgrades for the existing units. Eg: Captain upgrades for footmens and make them do cleave. Night elf rangers (Like in night elf campaing: shandris) etc
Hi grubby! If they follow in sc2 direct strike footsteps, they can have a weekly rotating mode that has various new conditions that will make every week feel like a very different game! Also try the sc2 direct strike! It's very fun
Grubby you previously stated its not possible but it should be possible to do a 120/125 supply orc army 1 build 100 supply army with Tauren and walkers in it 2 Kill about 4 Tauren 3 build more army bacl to 100 4 use walkers to revive dead Tauren And you go over 100 supply This works like the same thing with human army and paladin ultimate would be a cool video unless the current patch doesnt allow this
I've seen so many games where Grubby is looking for something to deal with air and he has seige tanks but doesn't build them and its really frustrating
Do you think adding a pool of limited units every few waves you can purchase to add to your army a la actual Mercs could be cool? You can't upgrade them w/ abilities - but they come ready to go, at a premium of course. This could help plug holes and add a layer of additional strategy in exchange for the extra cost.
Priests are extremely good in this mode, as units have less hp but healing amount remain the same as melee (I think). Like 6:38, can you see how much healing the rifleman received? The rifleman went from dying in maybe 4-5 hits to 7-8 hits by the warden.
I hope they add more races, if it's done properly I'm sure people will like it. Theres some good examples of how to and how not to do it in the Chaos Survival customgame. Some of the factions are very well made with unique models of all tiers, like the saurok and tauren and goblins and various dwarf factions. And some are not so good, like the vulpera which just has world of warcraft models imported in, the size and polygon count is all wrong. But using proper models like they did for all the earlier races implimented into Chaos Survival could make for very cool races for Direct Strike, just have to keep it vanilla, don't give random chaos damage and uber abilties. But yeah, merc units is probably a good way to start, that and naga, just give the naga some custom heroes like the ones in Chaos Survival.
They in the update 2.0, are going to implement an Arcade system similar to Starcraft 2, changing the Custom Game system for both single player and multiplayer into one, just like with the normal multiplayer game system and tournament implementation, as happens with Starcraft which is much more organized and not as separate or bureaucratized as it is currently in the current game, but this will cause them to control the maps and become the total authorship of Blizzard, being them who give you permission or not to modify them in the editor or even to have them, as happens in Starcraft, you have to log in to download the map within the editor if it is there and if it lets you, because even if you have downloaded it through the Arcade or a custom campaign, it does not let you modify it or do anything else in the editor, this is approved for future strategy games, not from Blizzard but from Microsoft, that use the Blizzard strategy game system, be it Warcraft IV, be it Starcraft 3, be it Age of Empires V, or be it the game that whether it's strategy, Blizzard knows how to make strategy games, and Microsoft knows how to make strategy games too, it's not a stretch for both of them to use each other's technologies to create a much stronger product and service from a business standpoint. It's an update that will conflict with community developed maps and mods, making them incompatible, and Blizzard has already seen that people are interested in both custom campaigns and mods, whether it's Lord of the Clans HD, whether it's Warcraft 2 Tide of Darkness, whether it's Warcraft 3 Re-Reforged, whatever the campaign is, so they'll look to develop their own campaigns like Age of Empires or Age of Mythology or Age of Empires 3 or whatever, to capitalize on the opportunity monetarily. The problem is that they won't be of the same quality as the community's, and much less will they be free, since the work of the community is a thousand times superior and with much more passion than any mediocre and low-resource garbage that Blizzard does, because they are guided by the principle of minimum effort and charging a lot for them, like with Rockstargames and if Blizzard can't monetize the community maps much less their campaigns, then at least it suits Blizzard that they don't get in the way and take away profitability, censoring them or preventing them from being played, preferring before looking for BLizzard's ones at the price they decide to set. This system is what we've seen in Starcraft 2, Age of Mythology, Doom 1 for custom games, or even Bethesda games with the Creation Kit for mods, the problem is that it will take away the total freedom that everyone is used to with Warcraft 3 of being able to own the map, being able to access the map, being able to modify the map, and creating whatever you want on the map, and that this map will slowly become a better made campaign than Blizzard's, and will replace it with a total and bureaucratic control system like with Starcraft. This is also to implement future microtransactions within the game, be it cosmetics like skins for factions or buildings or units or more custom heroes, accessories or menu interfaces, just like with Starcraft II. The problem with this is that it will conflict with every mod and map ever created for Warcraft 3, especially old and current maps from both Epicware's Workshop page and hive's hiveworkshop. In order to have full control over fan and community creations, they don't seek to improve, they only seek to obtain more benefits and profitability, and if they can't get them by fair means, alluding that this is to offer greater transparency and security in their services for their users, they do it by foul means, at least eliminating the competition so that it doesn't get in the way of their lucrative objectives, and they don't become an obstacle, even if that obstacle is doing a better job than Blizzard. And we have already seen that the community has much more affection for the game than Blizzard has for it. The mod " Age of Warcraft " in the video "Demo Release Trailer" is going to disappear. h t t p s : / / y o u t u . b e / b i o 4 5 G 4 D 5 f Y? s i= g j b J R n_ e S 2 w p 9 L x g
There's a lot of things they could do with this mode, its good already but it could be 11/10 - for me personally, I'd like to see some kind of time restriction on Tiering up to 3. "BuT iTs StRaTeGy" No its not, playing DRAFT only to see 6-7 minute *insert any t3 unit here* Just makes me wanna alt f4 on the spot, doesn't matter who's doing it. Giga boring every time it happens.

This is a great idea, like a lvl 10 dragon. That would be a game changer as well nice.
I do worry adding more complexity will make it harder to gain new players. It's already complex, anything more will feel alienating for a lot of people.

I think they should be a new faction, and be mixed in with the draftable units.
Having a purchasable red dragon lv10 for like 800 would be neat
hes definetly not addicted... xD
F for Mr.Footmen was holding the frontlines till they were layed off

Grubby's naming for Direct Strike videos: *put name of any unit* SUPERB/GOOD/OP/BRUTAL
Melee hero works fine with huntress, you just have to put it further at the back. In fact I think it works very well with huntress, because huntress beats all other t1 melee (when massed, and t2 for more bounce). Which means the melee hero is super tanky due to 50% damage taken from pierce/magic.

The chat really gave Grubby crap for not knowing how to cook back then, wow. That happens guys, different strokes for different folks.
Lol love that cute intro 😂😂
Hi grubby! If they follow in sc2 direct strike footsteps, they can have a weekly rotating mode that has various new conditions that will make every week feel like a very different game! Also try the sc2 direct strike! It's very fun
GET AURAS!!!! Driving me nuts. This is an aura game you get such value that keeps getting better and better.
These are older VODs, he's getting auras everyday now.
Hope Grubby plays the Test of Faith map also, it's also using vanilla units, focusing on controlling your units to survive the waves. xd
Sobi mask and brilliance aura is kinda brilliant
love this mode
Nothing like the well timed early ggwp.
Fine. I'm buying WC3 for this already.
Anchovy and pineapple was the correct pizza

You always try your best and be open minded. I can tell that by your innocent laugh at 0:08
I like to order my pizza with mushrooms, extra cheese, tomatoes and no sauce. Oh and stuffed crust.
yeah, more DS!
I've seen so many games where Grubby is looking for something to deal with air and he has seige tanks but doesn't build them and its really frustrating
heroes so strong

Do you think staggering mg's could make taunt chain better?
It would be cool if they ever decided to add mercenary units to the roster
Love you grubby
Idk if im kinda dense. But can someone explain to me the thought process of prefering priest than rifleman after seeing that warden?
Priests are extremely good in this mode, as units have less hp but healing amount remain the same as melee (I think). Like 6:38, can you see how much healing the rifleman received?
The rifleman went from dying in maybe 4-5 hits to 7-8 hits by the warden.
Great game
If there’s one thing I’ve learned from grubby, it’s that he has absolutely horrible taste when it comes to pizza toppings
Grubby please play balance hero survival! At least once for me
Grubby have you played Castle Fight?
Idk where that idea of 50% of people not having an inner monologue came from, but its not true
is there any point in fairy fire? Why does no one use it?
New factions will be great.
Morbidly curious how DS would look like with reforged graphics
would all the custom skins work in reforged?
0:58 - why did you not go for shaman here instead (or more later). 200% Magic dmg compared to 100/50% Piercing dmg
Question how do i buy items in shop for second hero? I hope somebody can tell me because my items go always to the first hero which ist annoying
I hope they add more races, if it's done properly I'm sure people will like it.

Crazy comeback, shame all your hard work got wasted by player 2 greeding a bit
Grubby balls
g tries too hard to counter what he sees
Maybe some more actual W3 vs Direct Strike? ;)
Direct Strike is the actual game. Did you miss the custom melee map?
Yeah bring back w3
direct strike now is actual warcraft 3, there is no warcraft 3 any longer, all that exists is direct strike
There's a lot of things they could do with this mode, its good already but it could be 11/10 - for me personally, I'd like to see some kind of time restriction on Tiering up to 3. "BuT iTs StRaTeGy"
