And people get the wrong impression about the Legacy of Kain plot when it is presented as a revenge story. It just doesn't make it justice. Knowing the whole piece gives the proper context for the events of SR1 and then this revenge thing is just temporal state of Raziel. Then the events of SR1 are more about setting certain things in motion (with the knowledge of Kain). And there's more to Raziel's learning and experience in SR1 than just the anger and vengeance.
