The empty bottle thing is not superstition per se, it’s just etiquette. An empty bottle is trash and you don’t litter where you eat. It’s just people who don’t know the origin of that rule try to explain that with superstitions.
That sounds about right, but the same logic would have you put your empty plate on the floor also. Well, maybe not. The plate is not trash at that point whereas the bottle is. OK, just working this through in my head.
