I am from Medellin, currently living in the USA. I like to watch these videos, which give me some perspective as I already know what it's like to live there. Life in Colombia is much more fulfilling in terms of enjoying simple everyday activities like walking, visiting friends and family, having a coffee in a nearby shop, and so forth. Of course, those things are enjoyable if you earn a decent amount and live in a nice neighborhood. If you are retired, making about USD 3,000/month, and looking for a place to live outside the USA, Medellin is a good option. That's my plan in the future, to go back.
I am originally from New York City, but lived in New Jersey for years. I retired to Colombia 4 years ago with my wife who grew up in Medellín. We live in La Ceja. Carolina Restrepo has been a tremendous help to me and I just wanted to make a nice comment about her after seeing your interview with her.
I wanted to write more about Carolina, but your 'pop-up' question preceding my comment seemed like a "screening question" which was asking about ME. I was surprised that my answer to "the screening question" ended up being the comment posted. Carolina is terrific. She helped me renew my Visa M, when I got too close to the deadline and was with me every step of the way. She got me the extension (salvoconducto) immediately, which was essential. Bravo, Carolina!
My husband is from Medellin and in two years we plan to live in Medellin 6 months and 6 months in the U.S. every year. Can’t wait I love the paisas from Medellin!
“Carolina Restrepo is truly amazing! She’s helped so many foreigners settle in Medellín with ease. I can’t recommend her enough-professional, reliable, and most of all, kind-hearted. If you need someone who knows the process and genuinely cares, Carolina is the one. Good people, great service!”
I've been living in Barrio Laureles since Oct 2020 & I love it. I've been blessed because I've never had any problems. By the way, I'm a retired US Marine & live well out here in Medallo with my military pension, Oorah 🤙🇺🇸🇨🇴
Spent 12 days in Colombia, 5 in Bogota and 7 in Medellin. No problems during my trip besides altitude sickness in Bogota and ants in my Airbnb in Laureles. The hills on Poblado are ridiculous! I’ll be back for a longer visit early next year!
Was just there. For me the pros over the US: 1. The food - Way better quality. 2. Societal norms/work ethic - everyone dresses nice, puts effort into their appearance, paisas are really motivated and have a more active lifestyle which is contagious. Where as in the US ppl are more casual and laid back which is contagious in the opposite direction and leads to laziness and depression. 3. The women - I understand that there are beautiful women everywhere but in Medellín it's just on another level. Cons: 1. Safety and security: one thing I take for granted about living in Atlanta suburbs is simply not having to worry at all about safety and security. In medellin, I do feel the need to always be cautious of my surroundings which can be exhausting at times. And also always that idea in your head that someone might be out to get you and something really bad could happen if your not careful. 2. Pollution/congestion - also take for granted that where I live in the US we have very clean air. This is not the case in Medellín.
Carolina is a friend of mine but Ive also hired her in the past. I needed her to find an apartment for my ex husband and she came through on a couple of occasions. I def recommend Carolina!
Do we really need to title this video this way, “being held at gunpoint”? Carolina talks about SO many different, positive and helpful things. You can get held at gun point (and much worse) in almost any inner city in the U.S. The title of this video doesn’t do justice to Colombia or Medellin.
There is a serious problems with a lot of Americans over seas. I was married to a Russian for 20 years and I learned quickly to avoid Americans I met there. Same with Colombia. Most Americans are not there for the same reasons I am.
All you people who want to talk about the crime rate need to understand something. There are 16 comunas, each exhibiting distinct crime patterns. A few of them account for the majority of the violent crime. If you are a Gringo, or even just from another neighborhood, there are places you should not walk around alone without a local escort. With that being said, I feel safer in Medellin than MANY us cities. And if you are confused about data, let me help you. The murder rate in Medellin is THE SAME as Atlanta GA USA in 2023. Would you visit Atlanta? And if you are going "clubbing" alone WHY? You would not do that in the USA, why would you do it in Colombia?
I'll give you my perspective for Colombia. I've been living here for over 4 years. I've been very lucky. I met a good woman that's very precocious and very intelligent and independent at a very young age. And obviously we have a daughter and we're legally married in the United States and plan on getting married in this country as well. I say that Columbia is a good place to be beautiful women and party. Other than that for me. There's not too many things to do. I lived in a lot of different countries and Asia Europe Greece all places in South America. I can truly say that actually Thailand's probably the best country that I lived in and there's a lot more things to do to cultures different the women here are very sexual. And obviously you're looking for Gringos to give them money and obviously there's not too many things to do here as far as outside activities and a beautiful women. I think the country's not a place for family. I would never raise my daughter here the men are very macho and disrespectful to woman and They all cheat. I haven't met a faithful guy in this country and for me, I'm faithful to my wife. I've been with her for over 2 years and we have a great marriage. But if you're looking for a country to raise a family, I wouldn't suggest Columbia. There's too many other countries where the cultures a lot different but it's a good place if you want to come here and visit and party it's great choice
The people who are leaving are the people who need to earn money to feed there family's. If you have a secure income there's no better life as a human being than living in Colombia or many other countries. The quality of life is absolutely better over seas

Yes. It's for the click-through Rate. Unfortunately, most people won't click on something that is nice and positive, I've already tried it, lol.

i don't think it's the walking that loses americans weight, i believe it's the chemicals in the food

Yet people a fleeing Colombia to go to the USA lol
What’s your point?

Only for the money, nobody's going there for the quality of life 😂
They come to earn more money. That is it.
