Gotta say, after finishing the main story at least, I can see why people love 3 as much as they do.
I do like how the tone and feel of it was: how the characters were made (Three Dog’s also charismatic as hell), how the decisions actually make you feel relieved or guilty depending on what you do, and the story being really well done. I’ve yet to finish the DLCs for it since I got the GOTY version, but man. I may not have played this game until late last year, but damn if it doesn’t hold up well for a game in 2008.
4 will always be the one that wins my heart, but 3 definitely wins my respect for how *good* it was.
Also, I modded a few more companions along to journey with me. Having the Elements of Harmony as allies and as companions that actually put up a good fight how Fawkes does? Humorous as it can get for me!

I bought fallout 3 last week and have had a remarkably similar experience. I have not played the game since I was a child and I was astonished how broken it still was. Enclave showed up ahead of schedule, a bunch of quests stopped functioning, characters would walk into the wastes oblivion style and just die. It was cringeworthy that they still sell the game without ever fixing the critical issues with it. Also getting it to run took me hours of fiddling with settings and even still it would crash without warning too. It is like a timecapsule from the mid-late 2000s still perfectly preserved in all its ugly glory.
