Another excellent video! It really helps when you give a running commentary like this. It's nice to see your rationale for decision making and how you approach little issues as they arise. Excellent channel for the DIYer. You deserve more subs so hope the channel grows consistently! Thanks for making the effort to do this 👍👏👏
Thanks so much for the kind words! And it's good to know you like that style. It's always hard to find the best way of getting the information out. You're welcome, Glad you're enjoying the videos 👌

What is the best way to stop ceramic tiles from chipping when cutting them around a niche or window. Or is it just best to file down the chips. I find mine are still a bit jagged and if I file back makes the gap too big.
Sometimes mate, The nature of some tiles is they just have a poor glaze on top. All you can do is try and cut them with a decent blade. Being ceramic they should be fairly easy the rub out the chips and neaten the edge with a rubbing block (I'd recommend 200 grit) You may be able to loose some of it in the grouting also.
Could you please tell me what the standard height of a niche should be?.. this video was so unbelievably helpful! We have the same type of tile with ridges and our tile installation is happening in a couple of days. Thank you so much for making this video.
Awesome, Perfect timing! Around 1.2 metres (which is normally half height of a room) is always a good starting point. Then really after that, It depends on you height for reaching things and ease of use e.t.c. Then after that it's good to take into account the tiles..It's nice to work a full tile off the bottom of the niche (if it works out fine every else) if possible as it visually looks better than a cut. The one is this video was about 1.35 I think. Normally when the niche is being made though we oversize it, and shrink it to the tiles, as it's a lot easier to add backerboard to it to reduce the size to fit the tile, if that makes sense. So for example if you had tiles that were 60cm and you wanted your niche at 1.2M finish height, So roughly 2 tiles to the floor from the niche..2x tiles plus a 2mm spacer would be around 1.22m. But I'd actually make the niche lower at about 1.18 off finish floor height, That gives 2cm ish wiggle room, and allows the trim to be installed like in this video (as you have to overlap it by a tiles width). Bit long winded but I hope that makes some kind of sense, ha. But yes somewhere around 1.2 give or take is a good standard height.
Great video mate. I'm currently planning on having a Sandstone tile with chrome fixtures in my wetroom. Do you think matching with chrome tile trim makes the most sense for edge of a raised shower tray, window surround, niche etc?
Thanks mate, I think it depends on what look you prefer.. The chrome will look nice and match the plumbing fittings, But I would be tempted by a Sandstone colour trim as well to match the tile. If you can I'd just get both colours and spend (2 days 😂 uming and ahhing) some time seeing what you prefer mate.
@@cs98jja Got ya, I'm not sure on the exact one's, But any standard waterproof rated ones that go in the track, that suit your look are all good. They are pretty generic.
Hi bespokebloke any reason why you had the grout joint above the the niche (half a tile height)? with the full tile in height at the bottom of the niche wouldn’t the sill of the niche back of the niche and head of the niche not almost add up to a complete full tile in height so then this could have allowed you to have a full tile in height above the niche so it looked more pleasing on the eye as you stood back. or was it that you would have ended up with a slither at the top I’m Just curious I fully understand I’m not there so measurements and what you have to work with is completely different in real life. Still looks amazing though would love to see a watch on the ceiling being tiled if your putting that up👍🏼
Hey, I believe I would of had a 1 cm gap to the ceiling from what I can remember. So how that one is, Is if you imagined the niche wasn't there and it's just a whole wall, That's where the tile would be on it's natural line. But for sure if it works, and there there are no tiles matching up on the side then you can change/manipulate it to what looks best. The ceiling video is right here ua-cam.com/video/RgPZHO6ng8w/v-deo.html Enjoy!
@ that’s great thanks, what a difference! Are you on any other social media platforms? I want to send you a project I’m in the middle of and wanted some advice. (DIY)

Smashed it again mate
Thanks mate!
those groves on shelf will hold water and soap residue forever. I would install smooth shelf on bottom
Absolutely, Bit of pain to clean, But that's how the designers wanted it.
What rubbing pads do you use and where from? Super video as always.

Great vid....and really good professional job . What LED strip did you use for the niche?
@@cs98jja Hey thanks, The strip was just a standard 18mm x 9mm white aluminum profile from what I remember. Hope that helps!
@@thebespokebloke thanks… sorry I was referring to the LED lights itself.
