No amount of mouthwash could wash away Jimmy's sins.
First, he assaults Anya (which is why she asked Curly why there were no locks in the sleeping area) and decides crashing the ship would address the pregnancy.
Second, he puts the blame on Curly and never took responsibility no matter how much he says he will.
Third, he convinces Daisuke to perform a dangerous act and gives him false hope when there was little hope for him to survive his injuries.
Fourth, he claimed that Swansea would use the cryopod for himself when he might have been saving it for Daisuke, the youngest one who still had a future, or maybe for Anya.
Fifth, he places Curly into the cryopod which could end with him waking up in 20 years with no rescue or with him getting rescued and having to live life blaming himself for what happend to his crew.

You know the guy got stress about his future and turned to insanity
First the Pony express ask them to fake a crash so they can get the insurance, 2nd Anya says she is pregnant from him, 3rd Curly says to them that the company is closing imagine only the STRESS
Jimmy will become a father, needs to search for a new job, so his thought process is to fake the crashing early maybe can respond fast to all this responsibility

I did get the vibe Anya and Jimmy's getting together was weird and not fully consensual but I did NOT put two and two together about the doors not being locked to the sleeping quarters! It makes perfect sense though. Poor Anya...
"We're in control here," Jimmy says to Curly, knowing he basically keeps Anya quiet (among other things of course but this is just a relevant line to this discussion). But once they're fired and they land planet-side, Anya could absolutely report Jimmy without fear of losing her job because there IS no job. Jimmy can't be protected lording his position over her when there's nothing left to use. He'd either have to go to prison or at minimum face extreme financial stress having to provide for the baby. What a situation.

I've only just clocked it now after Gab says "did [Jimmy] even have to defend himself or was [Swansea] tied up the whole time?" that the scene where Swansea is trying to break into the cockpit and Jimmy grabs the metal pipe and rope (to block the door) probably imply that was just a hallucination. A story that Jimmy came up to justify to himself why he did that to Swansea. He _did_ grab the rope, he _did_ grab the metal pipe, but he didn't defend himself.
My idea is that he knocked Swansea out with the pipe and proceeded to tie him up to that chair in utility. Potentially beat him and then shot him in the head. That monologue was potentially the last thing Swansea said, and Jimmy needs to paint himself the good guy, so he just kills him.

Yeah the story is pretty rough. Jimmy grapes Anaya, doesn't feel bad and more worried about what's happen when he gets to earth. Hell he doesn't even care about her OD and is obsessed with the captain, but only mentions Anya 1x to get the Daisuke to go through the vent which kills him. Blames everyone, delusional, and worst part is he doesn't think he's done anything wrong- he's the only problem. It's damn sad cause the Captain didn't let her use the gun to protect herself, and pulled "if you won't protect people then nobody can use it." The Captain failed to keep everyone safe and refused to deal with Jimmy. It's just purgatory. The story telling was fantastic!

I've heard that women (probably most female animals) have evolved a predisposition to react to babies crying. And when she said "8 months" I was immediately like, "is she pregnant?"
Anya mentioning the locks not being on the personnel quarters was a huge red flag. That scumbag never even saw her as a person, even after the SA, which is why his delusions never even went back to that "mistake", just all the things with the guys. I hate that guy.

He convinced himself Swansea was the villain, Swansea had to be stopped, HE was the one in danger. Swansea had no intention of fighting for that pod. The only reason he was safeguarding it was for Daisuke. I like how it doesn't have a post-credit scene. lets you wonder if they'd ever be found at all since the company's gone bust, meaning they might not have the funding/ability to send a recon crew, if not just sweep it under the rug. for all we know 20 years pass, curly unfreezes, and he's trapped in that capsule with a belly full of his own leg meat and no painkillers

Hmmm I was thinking that too but at the cutting Curlys leg birthday party scene, when they cut to the top view we see everyone dead and just curly and jimmy alive. I also think that the estimated times (4 months after crash) are wrong because of how unreliable of a narrator jimmy is. Cause we see things like the type of painkillers jimmy gives curly changing, total hallucinations, etc. also I dont think the final scene would be in curlys perspective if he were truly dead, it had a sickening sort of finality to it :(

its so good that gab read the posters at the beginning, the "hr cases can result in collective punishment" is why nobody did anything about jimmy even though everyone (well maybe not daisuke) knew what he did. but with her getting pregnant and possibly even giving birth by the time they arrive, it would be undeniable. and bc of this, curly's career would have been destroyed too, thats why he let jimmy try to "fix" things. despite all that talk about how he wants to leave the top of the ladder, he was still afraid of it actually happening and his cowardice resulted in a fate worse than death. cant say i feel sorry for him much.

honestly! i also kept thinking that 10mg extended oxy is NOT enough for what curly was experiencing, so the idea that he may be dead for a long amount of this game seems plausible from that alone. that kind of pain on its own when untreated can kill you, and we saw him get no meds or late meds multiple times. he’s have needed to be on probably a higher dose extended AND still getting immediate release on top, not to mention any other kind of wound care. it’d make sense if by the time it gets to the paracetamol it was just going through the motions because he was “alive”, because if he was cold turkey off extended oxy & ONLY on basically what you’d give a kid he’d be screaming

So that makes me think the whole “2,3,4 months after” is wayyy overestimated on Jimmy’s part, especially given how he screws up his own timeline (“4 months after crash” goes to “8 hours before judgement” which then goes to “3 months after crash” but picks up right when that “4 months after” section left off.)
It wouldn’t surprise me if everything went down over the course of a week at most and jimmy has just been constructing this drawn-out survival narrative in his head because he needs A Story to tell once he’s rescued

When I first watched Sean play this game, it felt really evocative of “I have no mouth and I must scream”. The name didn’t even really occur to me at first until after I had that thought. But then it was secured when I went to add the game to my wishlist on steam and typed in “mouth” and saw both games next to each other.
The art style and a lot of the themes in the story remind me of it. Both have incredibly dark but fantastic story telling that really shows you instead of using exposition to explain the story. I also like the slow burn, as you piece stuff together. It makes the replay-ability really high too, despite not having any actual choices. There’s a lot of dialogue that makes more sense the second time around. I haven’t finished “I have no mouth and I must scream” but I’m familiar with its overall story. I love seeing that Gab, knowing a girl's mind and understanding much more about being in a woman's position in essentially a man's world, her first guess IS that Jimmy was the one Anya was talking about when saying she wanted to hide the gun so "he" couldn't use it. And how, meanwhile, JACK on the other hand, simply assumed the "most douchey" character was probably responsible - Swansea - because he hadn't picked up all the weird subtleties Gab had regarding Jimmy's behavior, Jimmy's behavior toward Anya, and also how Curly remarked "I've known him for a long time, we can fix this" essentially is a coded way for a man to speak and he'd already remarked before about Jimmy in that same way. Just the fact that Gab was able to pick that up, while jack stayed oblivious, was really impressive and goes to show you that even with gab as his girlfriend, jack does still possess a fair amount of white male privilege that he's only vaguely aware he has. That those sorts of signals go over his head because he hasn't had to exist as a woman in a potentially dangerous position being around an entirely male crew, how easy it would be to be taken advantage of in a situation like that, and then because you're all stuck together for a year and all the other staff are male, as a woman you feel like you can't go to any of them for solace or help - whether it's because you're afraid they'll label you as easy and mock you and judge you, or whether they'll even target you as well or even worse, tag-team target you now that more than one knows they can take advantage of you, and WORST OF ALL, the potential that ALL of the men on board, EVERY SINGLE one of your other crew members, will ALL take advantage of you because you're the only woman on board with no one to defend you so they can do literally whatever they want with you. While I'm sure nothing like that has ACTUALLY HAPPENED to Gab before, she has a much better understanding of that situation and that potential danger, whereas jack can't possibly comprehend that there would even be a danger because he, meanwhile, could only see himself as a male crew and wouldn't have to worry about such an insane thing happening.
Really crazy. Also shows how ALL women tend to have high alert levels for that kind of thing, and men just... don't. Because they don't have to, and women DO have to. I don't blame jack for that or anything, it's just the reality we live in, and it's simply fascinating to see it. Obviously jack would change it in a heartbeat if he could, but that's just it, he can't, all he can do is try to learn more, himself, and better himself. And guys like that are the true allies to women. Ones that step up and say no. Curly should've been harsher with Jimmy, but at the same time, he'd known Jimmy for years and would've had never thought Jimmy SA'd Anya. The implication is that he did, but no one ever explicitly says it, even Anya. She doesn't tell Curly that's what happened, either, but she implies it when she says she wants to hide the gun from Jimmy. IE, he's already assaulted her once, so now she's afraid of him and what he might do if given another opportunity, so the only thing she might be able to is nip any potentially WORSE futures in the bud. But she didn't tell Curly it was an assault, and Curly wouldn't really assume it was because he "knows" Jimmy and doesn't think Jimmy would be capable of something like that. So it's understandable that he's not harsher with Jimmy about the whole thing, but he still should've been. He should've been EXPONENTIALLY harder. And maybe he PLANNED on ACTUALLY doing something, but to Jimmy's face pretended it would all be okay? Other than that, Curly SHOULD'VE been harsher with Jimmy about it. insisting everything would be "fixable" to Jimmy despite getting a crew member pregnant during the trip - no matter how it happened - should be much more serious even if it was totally consensual, but with what Anya told Curly, Curly should've really sensed it might've been an assault and he should've treated it that way.
If more men would hold others accountable, women wouldn't always blame men for everything. There are definitely men out there who try for sure, but too many keep quiet when they could help. If you're good to other people, they'll be good to you, no matter your race, gender, identity, or anything else.

Even at the end he didn't recognize what Jimmy did and straight up assumed the biggest mistake he did was that he crashed the ship and that's it. Bro even proceeded to question if Swansea or Daisuke was the one who SA'd her. He even asked "how could she even become a nurse if she couldn't even do these stuff?" after Jimmy yelled at her for not being giving Curly the painkillers. Not to mention he missed all the clues, not understanding anything about the game, and constantly making forced jokes just about anything going on in the game. So let me get this straight… Jimmy criticized Curly for leaving them out to dry bc it’s the COMPANY that’s going out of business. Then he took matters into his own hand when he got Anya pregnant by CRASHING the ship for insurance probably. He also doesn’t take the blame for the crash and is the sole responsibility for not only Curly being deformed from the crash, but also for the other crew’s demises?! Then he cuts Curly and when eating his leg and then feeding Curly himself, he said he’ll thank him later… Jimmy in the end does take responsibility but only after the consequences and was pretty much hypocritical, saying some condescending comments of Curly being the great leader and then when Jimmy’s the captain, it all goes downhill.
Edit: He says “I fixed it” by taking responsibility (when really his actions of taking responsibility are irresponsible) and putting Curly in a cryopod… which still doesn’t guarantee Curly’s safety. Every time when I see these kind of games, I’m always like: “are the devs okay? Are we sure the devs are okay!?” (Although this time is the most extreme)
Also, extra note: Gab questioning the reason of why the person did what they did. There is no reason for it. That person had no logical reason. Their logic was what you see in this game, twisted. Even patted themselves on the shoulder basically for “fixing it”. Yikes damn

I think I might buy this even if I don't really feel a need to play it myself after seeing it, because I want to support talented devs doing interesting things. Thanks so much for playing this, Gab. I really love these type of games, where you can explore one's psyche through extreme situations. Like, you still were fixed on the fact that they were hauling mouthwash - even saying, maybe it's contraband. Funny how the human psyche works, if someone is not proven fully guilty, we still tend to blame the circumstances. And all in all, I think this game is all about this: Jimmy is an evil person. He did everything on purpose - there were no accidents!

I think there are a lot of gratuitous horror games out there that overuse tropes to the point of beating a dead horse. But this one utilized a lot of narrative tools with phenomenal balance and skill. I was absolutely disgusted the whole time without it being tiring or driving me away from watching along. I particularly love the subtlety and delicate handling of plot points and an unreliable narrator. Everything is there if you listen, and the characters feel "fleshed out" and realistic without being cheesy or spelling things out too simply. I love it and also hate it so much thanks :(

The game had a perfect balance of what was shown on screen to what was in the story, imo. Of course, everyone has different levels of sensitivity, that's valid. But in comparison to say, Outlast Trials, this was pretty tame. I get far more uncomfortable with that one, even with all of Team Eazy Small's shenanigans. I think the main major source of discomfort for players was actually the knife segments-it's one thing to see horrible things happening in a cutscene, it's another to force the player to "participate" in it.

Never feel bad about mispronouncing a word that you've only ever read and have never heard aloud. It's even possible, (and probable) that if you have heard a word before, the person who said it to you may have mispronounced it. In my opinion, if the way you say a word is reasonable based on the common pronunciation of its individual letters, it's just as valid as anything else. The only time to really worry about pronunciation accuracy is when pronouncing a person's name.
