      +Jim Sterling If possible Jim can you try to look for more variation in the future? I know Steam is flooded with shitty "horror" games and by all means cover them but it looks like you found a diamond in the rough by digging a little deeper. This video makes me wonder if there are more interesting if not flawed games out there on Steam that I'm missing out on because they are buried in Greenlights shit. If you can, thanks! But if not then thank god for you regardless. Love the vids!

    I remember seeing a RPG-maker game with somewhat similar idea, but really god implementation. It was about making an elaborate dungeon with different traps and spooks and kidnapping people. The challenge was that you had to break their will without killing them, but also kill them before they get to the exit, if you fail to drive them to true desperation. To achieve that you needed to guess their fears from conversations before kidnapping. And each session ended with you posting the video on the forum and getting reviews, which could be pretty devastating if you kill your victim too fast or was sloppy and univentive. It was really fucking hard.

    I feel really bad for developers who resort to using RPG Maker because of their lack of experience. There are some great stories and ideas that go into these types of games. But, while RPG Maker is very accessible it's also very limiting unless you know exactly what you're doing.

    • @KitsyX
      @KitsyX 9 років тому +11

      +lyingpancake95 But if your plans don't exceed those limits, is that really a problem? Yes, it's good to have some ambition and maybe put some more effort in, add a bit of coding or something, maybe then their stories or ideas would get more recognition... But if you just want to make a fun little project in your spare time... Relatively low costs, allows you to implement basic ideas... I see no real issue, especially if it's priced accordingly.
      The only issue I see is that if too many people do it and flood the market, using stock assets and such, then it can be somewhat annoying or get them all tarred with the same brush if most are bad... But then you could say the same for any game engine... And even if many free ones are available, I don't see that they don't have value... Same with flash games too...
      Either way, you never know, maybe someone with greater ambition will play it and approach the original creator to remake the game with a better engine, with better graphics and a bit more mechanically diverse... Although I'm not sure exactly what you might want to add mechanically to this... Which is partly why I don't see an issue with them using this engine for this type of game lol

    • @Jim-ti5ck
      @Jim-ti5ck 9 років тому +15

      +lyingpancake95 Better that someone makes a half-assedly decent game with RPG Maker than a big steaming pile of muskrat shit with Unity or Unreal.

    • @ThePatta93
      @ThePatta93 9 років тому +2

      +lyingpancake95 Also, there is some really really great (german) RPG-Maker Games like "Reise ins All" and "El Dorado", which are not at all limited but even profit from the RPG maker, in my opinion.

    I would have to say that this was actually enjoyable to watch, or listen to by Jim's voice acting. Murdering the sister would've been cold-blooded if not for the fact she was an unbearable little twit. Too bad murdering the father wasn't an option because his being alone demands somebody needs to take him out. The mother was just complacent and I hate those type of people in abusive situations. The entire family is terrible; I see why George left and refused to come back (despite George being unpleasant himself). What a horrible night for a moider!

    My first play through, I took the knife from the kitchen and the poem from the writing desk. I planted the poem in the kitchen and then murdered my sister with the knife. The maid took the fall.
    Second play through, I planted the poem in the same room I got it and then used the rope to hang her. Of course all my conversations revolved around my sister's obsession and her attempted suicide. Officially ruled a suicide.

      I don't know whats wrong with rpg maker games if they are well made. One of my favorite rpg's of all time was actually made with rpg maker believe it or not. I don't know if this is good though, haven't seen the full video yet.

      +PoweredByFlow the problem is the signal to noise ratio is so low. for every good RPGmaker game on steam, there are two dozen shit games that belong on RPGmaker forums.
