    To the one person who told me they hated Ann-uary so much they didn't do the challenge at all: I can only apologise. You may need to use your wildcard very early on 😂

      At the start of your video I kept thinking of "Ann" trivia, like learning from Maggie O'Farrell in Hamnet that Agnes was pronounced Ann. Agnes means lamb, so maybe Lamb by Christopher Moore (an excellent author I've never seen mentioned on BookTube), or Silence of the Lambs. Also, there might be books about fashion designers , actresses, or historical figures named Ann(e). Anne is the name of Mary (mother of Jesus)'s mother, so maybe there's some books with those characters? I can't imagine that someone hasn't written a feminist retelling or something? Or was that Olivia Coleman movie about Queen Anne based on a book?? Also Anne Boleyn. Anna and the King of Siam. Anne Frank. Pollyanna. Does (Kristin) Hannah count? Mariana Enriquez? So many possibilities to explore! 😃

      I was already planning on reading Anna Karenina in January so I think I have Ann-uary sorted!

      I've already had the misfortune of reading the worst "Ann" book that exists (Annie Bot), so in 2025 I'm looking forward to finding an "ANN" read.

    Oh my gosh, thank you so much for emphasizing reading authors from marginalized communities for every prompt. That's one of my pet peeves about reading challenges - when they have one category for minoritized writers and communities, as if we shouldn't just include folks from all walks of life in our reading all the time. Love it, love this challenge!

      I know right! Why wait for a special month? Read them now!
      Same goes for indie presses... I actually removed the 'Indie-cember' prompt I used last year for this reason. I want people to consider indie presses for every prompt ♥️

    So excited for this again. I’m only two books away from completing 2024, so probably won’t manage it, but I’m already excited for 2025’s prompts.
    I’ve taken inspiration from you here and come up with an entirely lgbtq list for 2025 🥰

    I had every intention of joining in the challenge this year but life got in the way. But your prompts are brilliant and I'm going to try extra hard to join in next year. Here's a little thank you for creating such a brilliant channel. This is a good excuse to end your book buying ban. Buy something on your TBR! x

    This is such a fun challenge and I’ve enjoyed hearing how people have been taking part, so I’m going to attempt it this year as the fomo has got to me! I’m also attempting to just read what I own, so this will make that really interesting as well. How to Say Babylon and Cloud Cuckoo Land are two of my favourite reads this year. Also loved The Poisonwood Bible. Glad you aren’t doing ‘no paragraph’ November as that would drive me insane. The Lincoln Highway is great. Love the Agatha All Along prompt - lovely tribute. I’m excited for all of the prompts but particularly the Ides of March as that is likely to be very random and I’m curious about what could come up for that! Great prompts, Ben!

    • @benreadsgood
      @benreadsgood  3 дні тому

      Ahhhh I'm so pleased you fancy giving it a go Jack! And love the extra challenge of making it from your own shelves - hopefully plenty of flexibility to make that work ♥️
      You are not alone in the anti-no-paragraph-November mindset. But I'm kinda enjoying the collective hatred of it 😂 A uniting force!

    Thanks, Ben!🌷I love the prompts!😍📚I’ve started selecting books from my shelves and have joined your challenge on Storygraph. I’m very much of a mood reader though, so there’s a chance I won’t be reading them exactly according to your calendar, but in a slightly different order. That will certainly be the case with my rereading of Howard’s End by E.M. Forster (May prompt I’m going to read in April) which inspired On Beauty by Zadie Smith (April prompt I’ll be reading in May). For February I’ve chosen The Flamethrowers by Rachel Kushner. The cover of my Vintage edition is a symphony of red, yellow and black and it looks as if the letters of the title have been scorched, so I hope it’s an acceptable fit😉I could have actually used it also for the ugly-cover prompt, but I’m sure I’ll find something else😂

    I like this challenge. In 2024 I shied away from challenges, goodreads and prize lists and reduced the number of utube videos I watched as my difficulties with FOMO were driving me mad. Although I’ve had a good reading year I’m now thinking a few prompts are in order. So I’ll give this a go as lots of freedom within each prompt. Thanks Ben 🤗

    • @benreadsgood

    I am so excited to join these for next year and am signed up on Storygraph. I just counted the letters in the titles of several books in my TBR stacks and so far have found one with 15. Also need to mention that the great Anne Tyler has a new novel coming out in February for a late January prompt read. Love the wild card option and many options for the book I am ashamed not to have read yet. Such fun!!!

    What an interesting selection of prompts. I did dreadfully at these this year (I haven’t done amazingly with mum and mine either hahaha) but will try and to be better in 2025, though I’ll be using my wild card for May-Ja Vu, though I looooooove the pun. The Narrow Road to the Deep North is soooooo good. Possibly my favourite Booker winner 😮

    • @benreadsgood
      @benreadsgood  3 дні тому

      Thank you Simon, glad to hear they sound interesting! 🙏
      May-ja vu is definitely my favourite pun. It does have a built-in get-out-of-jail-free card though - if you don't want to re-read a book, you can re-read an author you've read before. It's no fun being forced to do something you literally don't want to 😂
      Excited to hear the Savidge Prompts for next year too!!!

    (And yay for No-comfort November!) Now I will have to try and find the books for the prompts which is definitely my most favourite part.

      @ I’ve actually since thought of two in the same series actually as I’ve got the third one that was just recently released, and I know it’ll be a good idea to reread the two bc I don’t remember too much tbh. Two things though - they are both over 500 pages, annnnd I’m a bit worried I won’t enjoy them as much as I did the first time around. The idea only occurred to me because I currently have a copy of the recent graphic novel of Lord of the Flies waiting for me to collect from my local bookshop and I've already read the original book a couple of times. The idea of a different format might work for plays too: watching a good film or recording of the live production with the script in front of you or watching an adaptation of a book turned into a play or even an opera (Turn of the Screw?). I’m so excited for this reading challenge! Last year, I loved Ann-uary. There’s a really popular author who is from New Orleans, which isn’t far from where I live in Mississippi so she is very popular here. Her books are on everyone’s shelves. Too bad I didn’t choose any of her books to read. I just don’t like reading about Vampires. I’m very excited to try to find a book about brothers. Since there are not any bookstores in this tiny town, Amazon here I come! Have a Merry Christmas!

      Is that Anne Rice? I'm not a massive reader of supernatural stuff, but I do actually want to read Interview with the Vampire!

      @@benreadsgood Anne Rice, yes that’s her. I actually have an autographed copy of one of her son’s books. He’s a good writers, but I heard that he’s not a nice person. I haven’t met him, so I can’t say if that’s just a rumor. My Aunt lives in New Orleans so that’s how I got the autographed book.

    I confess that I started out strong this year but then stumbled and crapped out round about November. Surely it was the prompt's fault!?

    PS Collected Works is also on my chunky books shame list.

    • @ArtemisFloof

      It was absolutely the prompt's fault. No paragraph break November was the worst! I felt like I was being attacked. Of course, I don't even like it when authors skip dialogue marks. Give me all the proper grammar, please. 🤓 I look forward to seeing what books you choose for the challenge on your lovely channel. 🥰

      @ArtemisFloof Thank you! I'm looking forward to making the selections. I already scoured my TBR and found out it had many, many books with 14 letters in the title, but I did find a winner.

    Was it The Last White Man that sort of tarnished Mohsin Hamid for you? It was the first first of his books I read and I was so disappointed, I’m not sure I’ll read others.
    Three Fires by Denise Mina is breathtaking. I listened to the audiobook, fell hard in love, and then ordered the physical copy. What a piece of art. Audiobook is read so perfectly that I think it is absolutely the way to go.
    I don’t really respond well to prompts, reading lists, etc. I’m just so freaking stubborn. But I shall give it a try this year coming and perhaps try converting over to The StoryGraph again. January is a breeze. I’ve been waiting to listen to Nuclear War for a couple of months now. 1 down.
