For future derby’s get some sort of shroud between you & the transmission radiator. A good mate has significant burns from boiling hot oil & coolant while competing in a derby
We gotta find a way to surprise hillbilly with a new reliable car! Maybe proceeds from a shirt? Go fund me? He’s such a great employee he deserves something better than his bronco for sure ❤️
And I've said it several times before in the comments hillbilly is your number one mechanic strongman extraordinaire... He needs a safe ride to get to and from work, and maybe even a little bit of running around in the mountains and rock climbing... Lots of love out to you Robbie and the family, but it's time to set up big dinner and hillbilly... Super cool you guys are fixing up that totaled truck for that 16-year-old young man. My heart goes out to his family and everyone involved. 🤘
Robby in my opinion crashing for fun and fixing for a living should definitely be a motto of yours it is very true. I hope you let hillbilly explain more on things in videos he is very knowledgeable and a good teacher in my opinion. I am looking forward to next week's video hoping to see how you guys do in the derby.
Love it. Your channel is definitely at its best when it captures you guys all clowning around with one another, telling jokes, working together and getting it done. Hillbilly and Dinner are both in the running for taking over as stars in their own right, but the chemistry of you all together is where it's at. The "television presenter" style of some of the other videos is good too, but this editing feels more organic and helps us all come along for the ride. Super fun episode!!
Wow, all that prep. The only Demo Derby that I was involved in was a "Chain and Bang". All we did was take out the interior and glass, punch holes in the doors for the chain, put the battery / 5 gal jeep can fuel tank where the passenger seat was. Of course it was five decades ago in Cedarville California.
Thanks for not starting your video with an ad, I personally appreciate it. Everyone claims they make nothing off of youtube, yet have an ad every 3 minutes. i almost always click off when there is a double 15 sec ad in the beginning, ugh hate that. I digress, great video. Love seeing hillbilly so excited lol. I think you guys should def do a car next time for a local charity. Allow us to pitch in, then do a Whislindiesel type giveaway with something cool, chop up the derby car and put the pieces in jars and sell them as the chance to win something, or at least a cool pic of the car on a vinyl poster, go through inshane designs for that.
We don’t really have traditional automatic gearboxes here in Ireland but I do see them every now and again, so thank you very much for the torque converter tips and tricks Hillbilly .
I you put a ton of baking of soda in a oil drip pan, and set it inside the conex door it'll eventually pull about 80% of the smell out of the conex, takes about 4 or 5 weeks for a conex tho, enjoying your videos robby you guys rock 🪨 🎸
Can't wait to see the Derby. Your car is coming along really good. I've never seen a Derby with gas pedal and break on one side and stirring on the other. This should be awesome.
Finally. I have been following three channels whose cast have their roots in derby cars, and we are finally getting some derby content. Pretend I don't know anything about derby and educate me in all the ways!
I can think of not just a few UA-cam channels that could take some notes from this video. You guys make a pretty entertaining crew. Slamming that thing together took a full pull, nice job. Hope you won.👍
Can't wait to see this car in action ,I know a young kid I know who's building a derby car for fair season here in wv . I showed him the video where hillbilly double stuffed (not oreo sponsored) a derby tire ,now he has all his done .I'll make sure he's subscribed so he won't miss any tips .
This is great that you're weaving in your derby skills. Good luck. Now just get Paul and Matt to revive their skills. It would be a super fun challenge match.
Back in the day I loved demo derby. About the only 'safety' protocol back then was to remove all the glass and maybe put a 1-gallon fuel reservoir in the back seat...These cars are reinforced like tanks compared to the old days LOL.
I got to the channel after the Gold Nugget was given to Ed, and I haven't started my marathon through the past videos yet, so I'm learning about you guys. Oh my Dinner and Hillbilly together is a riot.
The golden nugget brought me to them. They seem to have gotten much more comfortable in front of the camera, has gotten only more enjoyable to watch since. Good bunch of people, they really work their butts off for people.
Hillbilly and Dinner took care of prepping the derby car while Robby got to go play with Jeeps in Hurricane. Good guys take care of their friend and do a great job.
Good luck guys! Hope you and Case bring home that W!! I absolutely love the derby life. Been doing it since the age of 15 back B4 there even was a youth class. Lol I usually just run stock classes though but anyway good luck be safe and most importantly have fun!!
Ya know I just learned that derby body work is a bit less precise then what you usually do Robby. :) Enjoyed the prep now looking forward to the action.
Using a sledge hammer to do creative bodywork on a derby car seems appropriate! Who designed your hood latch? I hope it doesn't pop open during the "race".
I remember setting up Banger cars in the late 90's. In the UK, using a water tank rather than a radiator was common. Then they changed the rules to insist on a radiator in the stock location, and banned the Ford Capri. They were banned as the distance between the bumper and radiator, and between the radiator and engine was significantly bigger than other cars, so you could hit much harder, which gave you a huge advantage.
In an odd turn of events in my life, Hillybilly has educated me on how a torque converter works, how to seat it, and how to fill it. If only I had this knowledge 10 years ago...
wasn't an old school derby car build trick to mount the rear bumper of a 1 ton chevy pickup cut down to fit the front of the car?, awesome to see y'all building a derby car and going over some of the shenanigans involved in the build process as well as the engineering needed to make all the parts fit together
Hey Hillbilly, I see that is a dual pattern bell housing, Chevy and BPO, where did that come from? It's really nice of you to do all this work for Robbie, you are a good Dude.
Robby! Your daughter is absolutely adorable. I have a little Blondie like that as well. She's now 24 married and a college graduate. I am sure you will enjoy every age as she grows up. They grow up so darn fast! Yikes.
Dude the Ford guy made a beautiful comment about the Chevy emblems and you'll blow him off let the Ford guy have a little bit of Chevy ingenuity besides that I like this idea LOL. I mean after the last episode when he commented on that like a rock bit
@@TheChriswroe My three kids grew up in a very noisy house and had no problem sleeping - pretty sure they climatize to their surroundings and if raised in a noisy environment they will have no problem being startled awake later in life. On the plus side what better aroma is there than in a garage - another plus that will pay dividends for the child when growing into adulthood? No snowflakes in my garage ...
Hillbilly is an absolute genius when it comes to anything mechanical. It amazes me the amount of knowledge he has when any problem is thrown at him
I love how Hillbilly actually wears his safety helmet at all times. Smart man!
Hillbilly is my favorite of all you awesome folks. He’s the most down to earth dude on earth.
Cody too, quietly spoken, guy who knows his stuff. 👍
For future derby’s get some sort of shroud between you & the transmission radiator. A good mate has significant burns from boiling hot oil & coolant while competing in a derby
Good advise! Safety first.
Fair yeah, I wonder if a piece of Plexiglass would be good enough for a splash shield

13:27 welding and pouring gas in at the same time you guys are CRAZY!!!!

Hillbilly EARNED it and we all encouraged him, he and Dinner are so dedicated! Hold tumbs for a HUGE WIN for you and Casey

Never seen Hillbilly so passionate, can see his heart is in it.👌
You AKA Mr. Layton. best thank your lucky stars you have employees like you do. The crew rocks!
To be honest they should thank what ever for the same reasons we are a TEAM I’m just as important to them as they are important to me!!!
To help protect the radiator use expanding foam around it

“Wreck’em for fun, and fix’em for a living”. Love it! ❤️👍👍👍👍👍😎
Sounds like it's going to be a fun drive when it's done. Engine sounds healthy.
Wow. Gas in the back while welding in the front. That’s brave.
welding and adding fuel in the car at the same time....nice

13:50 very good idea, that someone welds, while another one is filling in gasoline 😱
With a baby in the shop too!
Derby car go BRRRRRR!!! 🤘🏼

Excellent Video Y'all!
I really like all the explanations of what Y'all are doing.

Thanks for the video, always enjoy watching!
Great to see all this NON-precision work after all the obsessive work on the Golden Nugget and other projects!
I have 2 cable ends crimpers; my favorite the little hammer crimper that you used in the video. Simple and efficient.

Hey man, I saw you with Heavy D. I have subscribed to your channel. I look forward to viewing your channel.
What I don't get though is how the scores work & what's the hand signals in the derby's you do? Doesn't seem to be last car moving.
