I always use a clear tube and an old jar when bleeding brakes , that way there's no mess on the floor and more importantly you can see the bubbles in the tube, and of course when the fluid runs clear of bubbles.
I have a little tip for u Robby. To bleed your lines, there is no pumping involved. Put a hose on the bleed valve and just open. Let gravity do its job and let it flow until all air is out, ensuring that you keep fluid in the reservoir at all times, or u will have to start again. Do this on all 4 and them pump a few times and all will be done. The hose is to collect all the fluid without making a mess. Just catch into a bottle. Give this method a try. U will be happy and it only requires 1 person.
Love seeing Cody in all of these videos, and coming along for the action. He seems like such a chill guy. Robby also got lucky to have a man like Hillbilly to work along-side too. That guy seems to be able to fix or rig up anything. It's impressive.
An old timer taught Me a real good tip when bleeding brakes. Pumping them up only bounces the air in line back & forth. Best way is Hold them down, open bledder, close beelder, let pedal up & hold down again, repeating till solid. guaranteed solid brake pedal again.
I really enjoyed this one! That was quite a build and so fast putting it together. It's to bad you didn't do better, but you had a great time, right! Robby i sure hope you're shoulder feels better. Better luck next time. Thanks again for the enjoyable video.
Thank you for keeping it safe with brakes. RobbySteele died in 2014 in Delta officiating the demolition derby. Good on you for keeping it safe 😎. He is from Nephi in Juab county 🙏
You all have great hearts for others and you channel is pleasing to watch. Not only is it educational to watch and learn how things are done in the autobody world, but the family you all make in partnership is amazing.
If I did what you guys do under a vehicle I would have already had ten pieces of metal or rust in my eyes. About 20 years ago I had a piece of metal in my eye from working under my car and I thought it was just scratched so I waited too long. An Ophthalmologist had to actually use a drill bit mounted on a platform to drill the metal out because it apparently rusted in my eye. if your ever have to have this done you'll wish you had worn safety glasses.
I did it with a welding splatter bauble, laying under a trailer welding up a cracked spring mount, the bauble bounced off the concrete and came up between my helmet and head .. landed in my eye and burned itself into place. Found a optometrist open, he used a large bore need from a syringe and flattened one end a but and used it as a very sharp scoop to take it out . That was an interesting experience I have no interest in repeating. The one upside was that fortunately the metal in my eye was totally sterile as it had been molten seconds before hand, so chance of infection was pretty low.
Had it happen to me…but I was wearing safety glasses (properly). Piece of grinding slag went through them. While they make things better, they’re not 100%.
I have been trying to say this to all the channels related here. Fab Rats, Matt etc etc, but they dont seem to listen or care. It is a bit disheartening, I must say. They must have an eye bank somewhere.
I had a spark from a heavy grinder bounce off the wall behind my full face shield, bounced off my cheek onto the inside of my safety glasses, and off the inside of the safety glasses onto my eye and stick. I know what happened because I felt it burn my cheek and saw it bounce of the glasses lol I was able to use an exacto knife blade tip and my rear view mirror to pop it off the white of my eye, so while it hurt for a while every time I blinked, it healed up fine lol
These past few videos on Derby has educated me a lot about what goes into their builds. Wonder if there are any cross over ideas to the rock crawling arena. Sure would like to hear about them. Thanks for sharing.
Never knew Hillbilly was left handed. Always hold your fitting in your left hand and wrap away with your right for Right Handed people. Thanks for being relatively safe compared to some of your friends, well let's just say that MORR needs more safety training. At least you use a helmet and gloves while welding, no overalls or smock but, that could be considered a luxury by some standards. It's not over until the fat rearend drops.
To bleed brakes: open bleeder screw, second person push brake pedal to floor and hold, close bleeder screw, release brake pedal. Repeat procedure until no air remains. Pumping the pedal can actually push the fluid past the air.
In Montana in 60's and 70's demo derby was stock cars with just glass removed. No other changes. Slowly things like battery placement, wiring and fuel location were changed. Then they started letting doors, etc be braised more solid. Far from today. After one session even most winners were unusable for a second session!
My buddy Cody rebuilt his rear differential last night to install today to drive from Cranbrook British Columbia Canada to Salt Lake City to derby on Saturday!!!! #51 Cody Walker.
Good stuff! It brought me back to the late 70's when our club ran Corvairs in spectator racing at Santa Fe Speedway near Hinsdale IL. We also did figure 8 racing, but didn't use Corvairs. Car prep then was much simpler, but it was major fun. Glad to see you back into it!
Love the derby vids Robby. Cool to see everyone come together to get the car done/ support on the day. You have some solid people around you ! keen for whats next ! Also g'day from Australia :)
Well I feel your pain on your shoulder. Four dislocations and twenty years later, I'm running on chewed up cartilage. Take care, and count your blessings amen.
If you are a lefty you hold the fitting in your right hand. Otherwise its so much easier to hold fitting in your left hand, and roll the teflon clockwise.
I wish our derbys were setup like y'alls. They don't use the full arena and it's normally so wet nobody can get any traction and it's just some denting of fenders. As the night wears on the mud dries off and the hits get better, but your track looked perfect!
LMAO most of that car wouldnt pass inspection at the tracks we derbied on years go BUT the wires on the front would have!!! we ran a chain in a figure 8 through the hood around the core support and bumper brackets with a big washer and bolt in the center of the radiator
We live and learn. Great video. Can't wait to see more videos soon my friends. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Fab On. Weld On. Keep Making. God bless.
Another great video Robby and the team and it was called to watch you in the derby pity that you couldn't go any further but there's always the next time stay safe and have fun from your big fan from Papakura New Zealand big Matt
If you know a drag racer, bet they have good, used 5 point harnesses on hand. We have to replace them every 2 years per sanctioning body rules though the belts come out most typically in like new shape. Demo derby is hard on everything though. Can't see any belts lasting terribly long there.
I wanna see You, Paul, mat, the other mat. Bleeping jeep and all the other ones I forgot, to build your derby cars for your own youtube derby special. You guys are awsome 👍
Good god guys…..PPE Please. I’ve seen to many coworkers damage their eyes by NOT wearing their PPE….At the very least, please put on safety glasses…..Lead be example….Please. Love your content…..
Hillbilly is paid for every minute he works none of this is free he is more then able to build and do what ever he chooses to do!! But this comment appears as if he isn’t paid or compensated for what he does! Or that I should have to allow him to drive a car that’s not his This is his job he’s living his ultimate dream of doing what he loves everyday. Before this job he was a truck driver and never home.
@@RobbyLayton I didn't say he wasn't paid for his work. A little jumpy Robby. Attitude is everything in life. I didn't accuse you nor did I even hint towards you being a horrible boss! So don't put words where they don't belong! I know very well what a truck driver goes through!! I drove otr from 1988 to 2009 so I know about being away from home!!
@@RobbyLayton you're accusing me of saying something that I didn't say!! That's just plain rude! Wow thanks for showing your true colors Robby Layton!!
Our local fall fair is next weekend, they do modified truck and tractor pulls friday night and a derby Saturday night, I'm getting excited just watching this, I'm also on the local FD so I get in for free and watch from the track side with a hose 😝 can't wait
Well spoken good sir, I have a good feeling we will be seeing more of them this year & especially next years derby season especially Paul since him & the boys have already done at least one derby so far this year that they have shared about on FabRats Channel. Matt said he’s catching the derby fever again from Robby & Paul doing it again, just hope they guys get the time in between their busy lives to have some fun in derbies cause they love it & it’s how they all meet.
The other day I was watching a video where hillbilly was removing a decal with the rubber wheel. I didn't know if you ever tried using an oscillating tool with the scraper blade I've used it in the past on decals and if you've got a light touch you don't even hurt the paint at all or in the case that he was working on where you're repainting it anyway it peels it off just like butter it also works on the adhesive that they put on windshields and stuff a lot easier than normal
We never know what we're going to get with this channel, but it's always the best content.

hold fitting in left hand wrap awaywith the tape coming out from the bottom. try it HillBilly, used to work well for me when I was plumbing.

I think you should do a derby with Matt's Off Road, Fabrats and other UA-camrs. Let Hillbilly, Trevor and Ben do a sidekick heat..
Cool. Maybe next time will go better :)

don't pumpa pumpa the brakes to bleed, open bleeder, push pedal and hold, close bleeder release pedal and repeat.
ALWAYS FUN TO WATCH!!
Since starting watching these videos few days ago, Hillybilly is funny as hell
These derby videos are definitly better than watching paint dry....
Can't win them all but damn it's fun while it lasts.
That is the best way to bleed brakes. Did that once for a customer. He put his girl friend up in the car.
Dude!!!! Robby your door wraps are Amazing!!!!!!! (Love the kids names)
Awesome job guys, glad to see matt and his wife to support you 🙏😁🙏 , we do the pro mod truck pulling
This was an awesome video!
Major props to you guys you come correct
We need more derby content!
It's not whether you win or lose but how you drove the machine that counts!

In the style of the Baja 500 through southern Utah.
Awesome video guys!
Hello from Siesta Key Florida
Great action, guys. Thank you for sharing !
Good video robby , keep them coming !!
Hillbilly, pumping the pedal more than three of four times can foam the fluid, thus putting more air in the system.
Well done Robby on time lets hope money comes your way Barry NZ

Awesome.
Looks like fun. Sorry your car went squat.
I had a great time and I wasn't even there! Next time will go better, maybe you should give yourself 3 days to prep.

About welding near that fuel tank, flood it with argon or co2 from your mig welder, no oxygen no boom
Miss seeing a Junky car or an Ez Duz it car out there.

Good to watch you back in action Robby. Pity you didn't get to nail em much. Hope your shoulder is ok.
