Honestly, a majority of those grades fell where they should but overall it was still a very good submission especially on 80-90's stuff. Your Elway & Mattingly RCs are both gorgeous as is and loved seeing all of your Decade of Excellence/Star Reprints/FL 20th anniversary Jordans. Good stuff!

SGC centering standards for a 10 is 55/45. PSA is 60/40. So if centering is off, you arent going to get a 10. SGC is tough but fair. All the best.

If it makes you feel better, I did see Centering Issues on a lot of your 9's. Another thing is, Even on Modern cards, Fresh out of the Pack, You are probably looking at Mostly 9's if you sent them Directly to a Grading Company. Lastly, There is a Reason why 10's are worth so much. There much harder to get then People think. I'm a 25 year Dealer and I have been Bulk Grading with PSA for Years, Up until the Shut down and I still miss things from time to time (with the Naked Eye). I think this was overall a Solid Return. I don't think you wasted your money. Most of those cards are worth more in the Grade they came back in with the Grading Fee then they were Raw. One tip when looking at your cards is, get a 50 watt black light and look at then in a Dark Room under a 15x Magnifier. Any Flaws (besides Centering) will stand out like a Sore Thumb. I hope this Helps.

“Does the coating effect the surface?” It 100% does because they’re grading the coating as the surface so if there’s any surface “damage” on the coating that is being accounted for. Also it only seems like y’all are accounting for centering but surface was probably a big issue on most of these if y’all didn’t check underneath a light with a magnifying glass

SGC is tough on centering most and surface second. Corners and edging issue they seem a little more lenient with. IMO from what I’ve gotten back. Nice vid.

Nice video! I'm not surprised you got low grades tho. most of the cards you sent off were vintage or just really hard to grade in general. I noticed alot were off center, also you said you didn't check the surface which is a big no no.
But all in all some nice cards! Better luck next time!

You didn't get any 10s or as many 9.5s as you wanted but on the flip side you didn't get too many terrible grades. I agree with everyone else you need a good loupe/ magnifying glass with a little light on it. Along with that, small microfiber cloth to wipe your cards down and get finger prints and stuff off the cards because they will ding you for that. You gotta remember these guys are using really high end equipment to examine these cards so you want to try and look at them the same way they are. The good news is, submissions like this only help you learn and make you better in the future. Looking forward to seeing future submissions and how good you guys get. Love the mantle!

  • @puregradedx8151
    @puregradedx8151 2 роки тому +4

The cards you submitted are all tough to gem. I think you did a pretty good job, the average grade I see on most 90’s Jordan’s submitted to us is 8-8.5. 25-30 years is a lot of years of in and out the top loader and binders, or in a shoebox. The market loves to grade cards, so when you’re buying cards to grade unless you’re buying something that does well in a lower grade, or the card is under the radar and you think it has future potential to grade, nearly every card you purchase has already been evaluated to grade by at least one owner and they determined grading it was not worth it. A good place to buy cards to grade is comc, because you can compare all copies of each card they have for sell on the same screen at the same time. This makes it easy to narrow down Because immediately you can eliminate all off centered copies. The zoom in on each one and check the corners edges and surface. Their scans aren’t super high quality, but for the majority, you can identify which one has sharp 90 degree corner, if the chrome cards have scratches or dimples in the surface, and whether or not there is edge damage or chipping on the darker border cards. I just had about 200 cards sent home from there to grade and use as giveaways to our customers in their returns as a thank you for submitting with us. When buying the cards I had a minimum grade in mind for each card to grade and be useable as a giveaway and when they arrived about 70-75% of them were at least that. 50-60# of the cards that arrived in worse condition than they appeared online were paper cards with a holo finish to them. For example last year I bought nearly all the 2018 miles bridges chronicle cards that were shiny and has parallels for $1 or less and even some serial #’d for not much more. (Marquee, studio, essentials, etc) the shiny surface on the paper cards hides imperfections really well. I’m guessing the lower quality scans and the shiny on the card reflect the light and hide them. It’s probably not a great site to hunt for 10’s on but if your strategy is, I need a certain grade on every card I buy in order to purchase, then go look up what that card looks like in that grade and then go pull it up on comc and compare multiple copies of it and find the one that looks just as good or better online, and you’ll have a decent shot at achieving your goal. If you’re hunting 10’s. Go buy starstock A’s or open packs. Starstock A’s and packs I would say at least give you a 50/50 chance at getting a 10, with starstock probably being the better option, because at least you know what cards you’re buying not relying on luck to pull the player or players cards you’re searching for.

    May I offer some advice?
    1) if you’re subbing to a new company for the first time it’s wise to send maybe 1-5 cards so you can get a feel for how they grade
2)SGC is one of if not the toughest graders. They are not like PSA who gives 10s like candy so if you’re subbing to SGC please, please, please inspect your cards so you don’t have a situation like this where you don’t get any 10s.
    3) SGC is very tough on centering, edges, and corners. They’re lenient on surface. With the exception of scratches and dents. Sometimes I’ve had it happen and so have some buddies of mine get away with print lines.
    4) a 8 or was it 8.5 on that Kobe relic is not a bad grade at all. Relic or cards that are a little bit thicker than normal are really hard to grade bc edges and corners are usually dinged up. So an 8 on a Kobe relic isn’t bad at all.
I’m a huge advocate for SGC. I hope you guys give them another shot. Customer service is unbeatable and overall a fantastic company. Lastly your video was very entertaining I really enjoyed getting to watch it and it’s super neat you guys do this as a father son duo. Best of luck to you guys!

You need a flex neck lamp and a jewelers lens and take your time looking at each card. So many channels or videos on UA-cam to help you begin cleaning your cards. Surface issues plaque a lot of cards so multiple light sources are great to see scratches or printing defects. Hope this can help you and wow you have some really awesome cards and you can always crack them out and resubmit or send to a different grader. PSA is way more lenient than SGC on centering so on the cards that are slightly off centered I’d seriously consider cracking and send them to PSA!

  • @claywinn32

Your David Robinson wasn't graded because SGC doesn't authenticate autos, they will grade the condition of an auto that's pack pulled which is already authentic. Also on your Jordan 4.5 look very closely at it to see if there is a slight crease,I had a couple cards I sent in that looked great, centering, surface, corners but when they came back low grades like that I examined even harder and found a very slight small crease.

  • @HobbyHound

Sorry one more comment, the NO is for cards normally outside their submission requirements. They would normally put the card in a Authentic graded slab, but my guess is that either they couldn't verify the autographs authenticity, charge more for that service and it wasn't fully funded, or they assumed it was a Star Pics autograph from a pack. I know I had pulled a star picks auto of another player back then, I believe it was Larry Robinson. I think the sets came with one autograph of a random player, not sure if Robinson was part of the autos. So they might have not had information on the card, and to cover themselves sent it back with the NO on it. Hope that helps.

Using magnification is the only way to find surface and edge issues. I personally look at a 9.5 and 10 from the internet and then look at my card right afterwards to help me with centering. Remember SGC looks at both sides for centering and imperfections.
Tough to get high grades on anything 2010 and earlier as cards were not protected like they are now.

Ouch, and that was a large submission too. I just got back another submission from SGC today and I was disappointed only getting on 10 out of a relight card order. I think the only cards I’ve been really disappointed on were my 1968 Nolan Ryan, I was expecting a 6 or 7 and it came back a 4.5. But, the more modern cards and ultra modern that I pre-screened have all come back no lower than a 7.5.

TAG is the best to see "why?" grades, sadly they don't do vintage among other cards, but for standard modern, TAG is the new best grading. That '67 Aaron is always a really tough card, not many high grades at all, even your 3 is a great card. That '74 Aaron is my favorite, hard to find. Many of those 9 Jordans are great cards. Does suck, no 10's but still part of a great collection.

Ps they also take off at sgc for protective coating. You def need a magnifying glass, a loop, & a few other things dont hurt when you clean and examine. Cant believe you didnt get a single 10 out of all that. Im assuming your def learning the game at this point in the video. That said at least your vintage stuff being graded at SGC actually pulls more weight than PSA. SGC vintage is like the top of the food chain as opposed to PSA or BGS being the best.

A lot of times, once a pack has been fanned through then its a 9. The simple rubbing of the back of the card in front of it in the pack while looking through the pack for the first time is enough to add surface issues. Though some modern stuff still can be buffed out if they havent been handled too much. I think the best way still is lifting the top card with rubber gloves and then straight into a soft sleeve. Also using a Centering Tool will really improve results as centering quickly caps what grade a card can even achieve if everything else is perfect. Hope this helps, good hunting!!

SGC is very tough on grading. You must be picky on what condition and level of cards you send to them. At $25 a card for me even a low to mid end perfect looking card isn’t worth the risk of grading. Getting SGC 7-8.5’s is a good way to lose money. You also have to understand the market is behind on these slabs for now. So even the same grade slab sells for less than PSA.

If you didn’t check for surface issues you really can’t be surprised at any low grades. There can be stuff going on you really wouldn’t notice unless you look verrrry closely.

Is there a way to tell SGC that if there’s a card under 20 yrs old that’s graded under a 7, don’t case it? I wouldn’t want newer cards come back as a 4.5. Forget all that stuff. Older cards ok but not new ones.

Surface is getting you on all of those cards. Buy a magnifying glass with an led light. $10 on Amazon.

Why bother if you can see they don't have a chance at a high grade??

awesome share!! Appreciate you posting this. The difference between an "8" and a "10" is CRAZY small. difference between a 9 and 10? you're talking SMALL SMALL scratches only seen under certain light conditions and magnification. The naked eye will only catch so much. Sadly, while the actual difference is almost unnoticeable the PRICE difference between a 9 and 10 is HUGE.

9.5s are pretty good for older cards. 9.5s in general are pretty good:

Your title is bad this is no SGC fault. 90% of your cards a off center. This isn't psa where there's a they allow a little off centering front and back. In last 8 months I've sent in 105 cards managed to get 48-10s, 45-9 & 9.5 rest were less. SGC centering is KEY.

Nowhere in the title or the video do I blame SGC. This was 💯 % on me.

Thats why l had rather buy a 9 instead of a 10. Ninety nine per cent of the time you can't see the difference. Just depends on who graded it and what kind of day there having. For the difference in the money its not just worth it. I'll take a 9 all day. ( JUST SAYING )

Grading cards is the biggest scam in sports cards today !
its a tough lesson that just because you think a card is a 10 doesnt mean its a 10 and when it comes back a 8 or lower your basically at raw card prices on the resale
i like your video hate to see the disappointment

Definitely need to use a closer eye and be more selective on what you’re sending if you’re going to sub with SGC. Over half the cards from the video I could easily tell why they got the grades they did centring and surface wise.

Nah, SGC is the best dam heading to go with. PSA has obvious flaws in the card and still shows PSA 10? Straight awful. SGC don’t play around and they don’t hand out 10s
